I've seen U2 in concert several times from 1985 - 2000's. My favorite was at Madison Square Garden, and they played "40" to end the show. They left the stage one by one, leaving Larry Mullen, Jr. to just play the drums. When that beat ended, all you could hear was the crowd singing for literally 2 minutes. And then Larry began to play again. It was incredible.

I'm a big U2 fan from Italy, I'm 50 years old and I discovered U2 in 1988 with Rattle and Hum. Do you know October was nearly improvised in studio by Bono? His notebook was stolen in the changing room during a early US tour and so when they approached the recording sessions Bono improvised lyrics for many songs (Gloria, Rejoice, Scarlet, October). The band had a tough time mainly because Bono, The Edge and Larry approached Christian fundamentalism, Adam disagreed and the band nearly broke up. That's the reason why Gloria sounds like a prayer. Commercially October was less succesful than their debut album Boy.

they were bonos lyrics though, they asked johnny to sing it on their album. this may be the first time U2 sings their own song. It is a U2 song

I was there from the beginning and This is the U2 I know and love. They came out of the post punk era. They were listening to bands like patty smith and the ramones. So they had a different sound to what they morphed into

I am a atheist, i do not believe in any gods. But i have seen u2 play 40 live a number of times and it is a religious experience to be there for it.

People looked different when they where younger, what a surprise 😆.

What a weird reaction. Guys, the world doesn't revolve around the US of A you know. This song was well known in other countries back then and was their first hit I absolutely loved it and still do. The video is awesome. And it still blows my mind that they are singing in Latin. I thought at first they were singing about some woman called Gloria LOL.
