Let’s start a gardening business Part 58: I hate bamboo
I started a gardening business in April. I quit my full time job and took a leap on this. I started in the most difficult time for gardeners, autumn & winter. Join me on this journey as I attempt to create a successful business completely from scratch. This is my first business and my first time being self-employed. I will showcase everything and be completely transparent.
Thanks, wish me luck.

I quit my dream job to see if I could start a gardening business. This is an experiment for anyone wanting to create a business. If I can do it, anyone can. My guy there’s a thing called a stump grinder, go hire one and you’d be done in an hour. Your doing so Much needless work and blunting your nice saws for no reason
@@garethlloyd1815 I know, but for the price of hiring a stump grinder this job would have been for free lol
@ just a tip I’ve been gardening and landscaping for 15 years now with a job like this include the hire price + 25 percent in your quote and explain why it costs what it costs. If they don’t want to pay so be it and walk away with a smile because you know they will call you back after someone hacked tho yard to pieces. I had a guy with a similar job decline my quote and he called me back the week after to do the stump grinding and to repair his lawn after some idiot tried to yank the stump out with his l200 4x4 and left behind a proper mess
@ thanks mate, learning as I go along, it’s only been a few months. I wouldn’t tackle a job like that again without a grinder 👍

A bit personal so i appriciate if you respond mate. Do you have an formal qualifications in doing this. Im looking to switch jobs and this appeals to me.
@@bobfal no mate, done a complete career change myself. Anyone can do it if you can work hard and be consistent
@J.LGardeningServices cheers mate, appreciate the response. Might give me something to think about in 2025.
@@bobfal best of luck mate so far I can say it was the best decision I made especially for my freedom
Brillant mate
Thanks pal
@J.LGardeningServices how you finding the winter. Are you getting enough work.
@ yeah mate actually far better than I thought to be honest
@@J.LGardeningServices good mate i work for a company during the week but do alot of my own work at weekends & nights bricklaying grass cutting etc
Did you get yourself a chainsaw.
Yeah mate finally got one, been getting too many job offers that I couldn’t do without one
@ Rome wasn’t built in a day mate, great to see you growing your business, keep grafting you will be tripping over work next season.
@@letsgetdigging7418 thanks mate, fingers crossed 👍🌱
Try and Get yourself a cobra chipper next year mate, great little tools.
@@letsgetdigging7418 your the second person that’s said that to be fair, I’ll be on that. Do you have to have a licence for a chainsaw also?
@ not sure mate, I bought a stihl for around 300 quid, goes through trees like butter, they never mentioned anything when I bought it, I only take small trees and shrubs out but 2 of the best bits of kit I’ve purchased
@ decent mate, I think I might get one today you know I’ve been asking a few people and no ones mentioned anything about licences. Will need one and the trousers 👍
Looking forward to watching your journey, good luck.
@@JarrowGardeningservices-rf9gn thank you mate, will keep the videos coming, hopefully it works out 💪
You’re a grafter that’s for sure. keep grafting lad you will do well.👍
@@JarrowGardeningservices-rf9gn thanks mate will keep going 👍✊
Looking great, what lawnmower have you got and how is it with bagging the wet grass?
Thanks mate, atco classic liner 16 roller, not bad got a few clogs there on that day though 👍
Good job mate, just finished work & enjoyed watching this 👍 Get yourself a little chipper/shredder mate. Keep up the videos, I enjoy watching your work buddy 👍
@@paulprice2362 thanks mate appreciate that, hopefully will have one in the future 👍
The stripes look great and i got addicted to striping all my lawns. then i realised how heavy it was to manoover in tight gardens, then a few customers told me they didnt mjnd if i striped or not they just wanted it cut, so i put it away and started using the hrh 536 4 wheel, and a viking for the wet grass, i didnt get no extra money for stripes. If a customer asked for stripes now i would charge more money, keep doing what your doing, as long as your doing a good honest job like you are! you will be rammed next season.
@@letsgetdigging7418 aye it is heavy, them Hondas are meant to be brilliant, worth the money?
@@letsgetdigging7418 cheers man fingers crossed
@ bought mine for cheap second hand its a bomb proof big powerful beast. nothing special in the wet.
Was the mouse dead😂
@@letsgetdigging7418 no it was still alive in my shoe, then I threw it outside. When I came home it was lying on my living room door dead. 💀
@ i would of shit my pants like, no good them cats man get a big hard guard dog.🐶
@ I did shit them a little, aye I’d get a big guard dog and it would probably run at the sight of a mouse 🤣
I love doing jobs like this but always underprice them. i hope your getting a good wage for your graft.👍
@@letsgetdigging7418 I have the same problem I think mate, trying to find that balance between not losing the job but not doing myself 👍
@ its the wear and tare on your body that you need payed for, one of my hands hardly works from the vibration so now for me to price a job like the one you’ve just done i would be wanting about £500 -£600 with the waste away or i wouldn’t put my body through it.
my hands are a bit dodgy with the vibration as well, that’s fair mate nothing wrong with knowing your worth 👍
Smashing it mate Keep grafting.
