Break the glass … genius 🎉
Dude, your hint about leading with the outside shoulder and elbow changed my life. All the other stuff ok - great and all - but this little hint you put out here casually made me click on cornering after 3 years of messing around. Thanks a ton. I even made an own video about it (tagged you in it) 👉🏼th-cam.com/video/8fXtPQuDmi4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=owRBTq3SUIAun8Rm - again thanks so much for this seemingly little gambit.
Awesome! Glad it could help. Appreciate the shoutout and your vid explains it well. You have a great channel deserving of a big audience. Stick with it!
@@slantedground thanks so much! I'm exploring different content strategies now as long as the channel is fairly small. 🙏🏼
Next skill to work on. Thank you!!!
That Rattlesnake was the size of a Buick !
That explains why he’s using the roadway
Dude awesome!!! Do you do coaching??? I'm dying to get better at jumping
Thanks! Not in person. Only here and Patreon. Appreciate you watching!
I have watched many hours of video. This ome finally helped me to shift from "jumping early" to strong roll off legs. Never felt better on little ramp jumps
Sweet! Glad to be a part of your journey. Thanks for watching! Appreciate the comment.
I've came for this beautiful booty, but gained a lot of valuable tips. Thank you, your videos about jumping are very informative.
New subscriber here! Great video! I can't wait to try what you're teaching here! Located in York Pa!
Thanks!
It seems to me that the key to getting air is to immediately get your body up and forward right after you do the down and back motion. If you “hang out” too long when going back, almost like a manual, you won’t get air, because there’s a very small window where you need to get your body moving up and forward. Correct?
If you stall in the process, you'll reduce the power and efficiency similar to stalling on your swing when swinging a baseball bat or if you are jumping straight up with your feet, squatting, stalling, and then jumping. I can still pop out of a manual and even a wheelie, but I get far less height than I do when I do the bunny hop all in one motion. Thanks for checking out the vid and the comment. Appreciate it.
thanks for this...helpful!
Really good content, really well delivered. keep it coming, your the first to give me an answer to why my foot keeps coming off the pedal on jumps. lots of other great tips in the vid as well.
Random question: Isn’t your frame cracked or did I make that up?
It was for about two weeks. Propain sent a warranty replacement.
@ well that’s what I call a happy ending! Good deal.
How do I unlearn the trials hop? Muscle memory is strong. Any advice?
You really need to lock in the idea of going down and back before you pop. When riding a trail, it's easy to revert to what we know is safe because comfort feels good. I'd suggest constant practice anywhere and everywhere to lock in the motions. To clean the slate mentally, ride trails you know and look for places to use the bunny hop. Having that "mission" will keep you from reverting to your old ways. I have a video titled "A fun, easy, and safe method to build essential bike jumping skills" that might help. Thanks for watching!
Excellent and useful tutorial as always!! Great channel!!
Probably my favorite single MTB technique. Clearing big trail features and obstacles, boosting jumps, finding doubles, creating style - the bunny hop is #1!
Best reasoning for every part of the motion ever. Thank you!
Appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
What helmet you using?
Alpinestars Vector Tech A1 MIPS. Thanks for watchin’!
I'm currently stuck in speed jumper mode. Not totally proud of it, but I can hit big stuff. This video is a golden reminder of dangerous speed jumping is. I will get the J hop fairly dialed, then the bad habits take over. F O C U S!!! Ima play your video at the trailhead before I gear up haha.
Thanks for watching! Take it back to the smaller jumps and see how slow you can go and still clear them. Force yourself to work for it off the lip and in the air. You got it dude. Appreciate the comment.
There are so many different Channels trying to teach and as I’ve learnt and ridden I’ve realized and siphoned through the truly helpful Channels and yours is definitely one of them thank you , I’ve only been riding three months started very late wasted my life on drugs and crap (anyways to much info ) again thank you this helps massively
Appreciate the comment. Welcome to the sport! You are where you've gotten to, not where you came from. Collect those those wins on and off the bike.
Subscribed. Glad I found you
Thanks! Glad I found YOU.
Modern MTB with longer wheelbase, reach and chainstay which make bunny hop harder......
Yes, in 90’s in the Pennsytuckey hood i grew up in we would have bunny hop *competition’s on height (2x4s) and distance. Cola? Its defiently called a Pop out in Yinnzer country! Well done J, keep up the great work and making it look steezy brother 👍👍🇺🇸
I can vouch to the importance of filming yourself. You may not realize your mistakes until you watch yourself doing it
Really good advice. The bunny hop / J hop has helped loads with my jumping technique. Thanks
What tires do you use on this video
Having tried all sorts of tires and combos, I've been riding WTB tires for several years and have not found any reason to change. I ride the Vigilante up front and the Trail Boss in the back. IMO, great tires at a reasonable price. Thanks for watching!
Great videos mate!
Thanks for the upload!
6:22 how TF did you do it that easy?
Things feel impossible and awkward at first but if you stick with it and practice, the impossible starts to feel normal and somewhat easy. Stick with it, practice. Thanks for watching!
@@slantedground Thanks!
Your vids are great man, keep em coming!! 👍👍
Thanks! That's the plan! Appreciate the support.
Another great video Josh. I've been having an issue with jumping off the pedals and leaving the bike. I have also been faking it with a trials hop. I can see now I was focusing on trying to scoop the pedals. Your explanation makes perfect sense, focus on heels down. Thanks man.
Scooping the pedals is a common misconception. That and riders who ride clipless pedals relying on being clipped in to lift up with their feet. I think you'll find that with the proper technique, arcing up and over things is way easier than the two wheel trial hop. Thanks for the support!
Just wanted to say thank you for putting out the effort to produce these amazing videos.I’ve been trying to learn how to jump and your videos are helping me to get there!cheers!
Thanks for watching! It means a lot to me to hear these vids are helping you on your journey. Enjoy the ride.
Very helpful video! I like how you broke down each part of the jump. I feel like a lot of people gloss over those details. They say “pre-load” but don’t explain what that means and how to do it properly.
Thanks for watching. Happy to hear it was helpful for you! Appreciate the comment.
Nice break down bro, great to hear the "repetition is key" message!
Dont rush the process, thats one to remember, thx for your cool Videos ❤
I would love to see someone teaching this break down April ride mtb how to jump video. They seem to jump with just legs and seem to boost pretty easy. Just curious what your thoughts would be on the difference of what you teach and them. I’ve seen loam ranger stand up to the jump and that just looks different then what April teaches, he definitely looks sketchy
I can't speak directly to what April teaches only because I've never seen the videos. I will say that the techniques and tips I preach reduces the need to rely on speed to clear gaps. Having proper technique without the reliance on an overabundance of speed, in my mind, is the best technique for jumping. As far as "stand up to the jump", it's a great mental trick to position the body correctly and better eliminate the possibility of getting bucked. However, without a physical "pop", you are relying on the transition to define your arc rather than your mass. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment.
@ thanks for such a quick response. If you TH-cam real quick you’ll see video. I’m just so confused on how the hell there boosting without arms ish. Not trying to force you to watch lol just curious on your thoughts.
Great informative video!! I hate that climb you were on at the beginning of the video.
I commented on your jumping bigger jumps video that it seemed to make intuitive sense to me. Maybe it's because I've watched other jumping advice videos, but again, your style of explaining seems simple but effective. Cheers
Thanks so much!
As an older guy new to MTB who is trying to learn jumping - your videos are treasure. Thank you
Sure thing. Appreciate you clicking and watching.

Real good stuff. Better than most pro tips I’ve seen. Goodonya
Appreciate that! Thanks for watching.
Where you located? really like the way you explain technique. What would a in person session cost?
I'm in Southern Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I don't do in person because of workload and scheduling, but do offer online support on my Patreon. Thanks for watching! Appreciate the comment.
Great video! good luck with patreon, it think you will do great there. Totally unrelated, how do you like the propain tyee? maybe a bike check or review could be interesting.
Thanks! I've ridden the Tyee V6 since it was released and love the bike. I have a bike check vid on the to-do list but I'm waiting for warmer weather. I do all the service on my bikes and I believe the Tyee gets unjust hate for internal cable routing. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment.
I love the way you explained how to jump at the beginning of the video … made so much sense … “how would you run up and jump off of this to go the farthest”
I've watched a bazillion jump videos and what you said about the cover everyone with one recipe is so on point. EVERYONE is different when it comes to this stuff: in experience and in athleticism. Following some cover-all tip is not going to do it on top of it being dangerous. I have a feeling you'll be getting a bunch of clients as long as videos and information such as this one keep comin! Thanks.
Appreciate the comment! Thanks so much.
Sweet 🫡
