I enjoy your videos and I have learnt a lot about kitchen remodels. I wish you all were based out of Denver to help with my remodel
Thank you
I've been trying to figure out what Americans call Frame Fitted furniture... and in that process I stumbled on this because I thought it might be what you're calling "framless" which it is not... I had no idea Americans have something other than what you're calling "frameless" everything over here (UK) is frameless now so we don't really have a word for it. I find it fascinating that the culture around cabnetry is so different given it's universal nature. Side note, I'm increasingly under the impression that there is not really any Frame-Fitted furniture in the USA, am i right? It's mostly for bedrooms and living spaces not kitchens.
Hi Michael! I think you are referring to "framed" cabinetry. Framed cabinetry is built in a much different way than "frameless". Framed cabinetry is the far more popular cabinetry construction style in the US. Framed cabinetry is definitely used in kitchens and again is the most common style, probably by quite a wide margin.
Looks good!
Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so very much.
Happy to help! Thanks for watching.
What about Corian? Which countertop surface is best for kneading bread dough, rolling pastry crust etc.?
Corian is an option. Haven't heard Corian come up as an option in years. I will say it has a great use in shower applications!
Forgot to mention how easily laminate stains and etches. Specially noticeable in lighter colors
You are absolutely correct.
Can you share the line of cabinetry that was used for this project? Thanks!
Give me a call at 248.618.3332 and ask for Kirk. I am happy to help. Thanks.
2:45 "Quartz is a man made material" Quartz countertops are a man made product. Quartz is a natural mineral.
Thanks.
Very helpful videos. I wish you guys were in the Denver area
I wish we were in the Denver area as well! What a beautiful place. If you need any help don't be afraid to call and ask questions.
very helpful as I was considering walnut wood for countertop..... I wonder how I can still use it but make it practical?
I don't know your specific needs but an island application is great for wood tops. Easily switched out in the future.
@@cabinetcreations how do you seal it so it doesn't get ruined but still looks like wood and not poly plastic and shiny
Great advice
That's awesome to hear
This does not include appliances correct?
This does not include appliances.
Very informative! Do you do actual construction when it's part of the kitchen remodel? For instance, I'd like to have the soffit removed in mine and an exterior doorway replaced by a coffee station.
We do A-Z kitchen remodeling.
Very helpful info as we get into our kitchen remodel! Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Hope your remodel goes well.
Nice video Kirk
Thanks
Thanks, very helpful. Does it really take 4-7 months to renovate a kitchen? What about a smaller condo kitchen 10x10?
Great question! It is not uncommon for the whole process including quote acquisition, design changes, selections, waiting for cabinets, waiting for the installation to begin and then the actual construction can easily take 4-7+ months. It is not uncommon that the construction itself is 4-10 weeks. Hope your project goes well. Thanks for the kind words.
I’m curious where are you located?
We are in Metro Detroit, MI.
Great information, Thanks.
Another very detailed video, Thank you!
Extremely Detailed Video! Thank You
lol I actually learned the difference between particle board versus plywood cabinets by watching you! So that one was not new. I have been watching you guys for a little over a year and your tips on various things really helped my wife and I ask the right questions during our kitchen remodel and I feel like it was successful in part due to you so thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Awesome to hear your remodel went well and you now get to enjoy your new space. Now go watch other videos that are way more fun than boring remodeling videos!
Great insights! We moved into this house last Spring… after 30 years in one we had built on some acreage… and I detest the kitchen, for SO many reasons! We had the long conversation of ‘sooner vs later’ and just signed on with an experienced, creative, designer in the team, contractor that we are very excited to work with! By the one year of moving in, I think we will be thrilled with the kitchen and bath remodels under his guidance!
The short-term pain is worth the long-term gain! Thanks for sharing your experience.
I’m using a craft maid cabinets, 39 cabinets 42” high. 3 colors tones. Mostly draws and 4 toe kick draws. $60k not including labor because I’m installing it. Pretty pricey
Cabinetry is very expensive compared to just 5 years ago.
Was the island not included in that final cost?
If I remember correctly this kitchen doesn't have an island. It does have a coffee bar, and yes the coffee bar was included in the price.
Particle board cabinetry looks exactly the same as plywood until you open it or get water in it.
WALKWAYS! My old kitchen had one walkway that was 24". What a pain. In my newly remodeled kitchen, just finished two days ago, the smallest walkway is 38". The others are 42" and 44".
We see small walkways all the time and it is a universal desire amongst homeowners to "solve the walkway problem". 42" and higher are very functional walkways. Thanks for watching and commenting.
What about the cabinets. Are those in in 5 weeks?
Absolutely!
This is great advice! We are currently interviewing contractors to do a large renovation project on our kitchen. A couple companies have been in business for many years and seem to be going more on the pricey side.. but have lots of pictures of past projects, references etc.. some of the younger and newer contractors are very eager and talk all about their experience.. but not many pictures to show
While this approach is not a perfect science it is very telling. Use your gut and choose the company that you are most comfortable with. Hope it goes well.
That floor is so bouncy 😂
It might also be our really cheap tri-pod from Target! We're on a budget out here. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
love the video. Do you have advice for where to place handles on shaker cabinets and drawers? I see online so many options. My gut says straight in the middle of all the drawers in the panel but so many other options please advise sir thank you
We don't have a standard placement for hardware. This is a decision we go over in our construction plans. The most common for most homeowners is centered on drawer bases, center of stile and in-line with the rail edge for doors, and no set standard for larger pantry doors.
@@cabinetcreations ty for answering I went centered! Do you have a video or pictures of how to finish off the cabinets where it meets the ceiling?
I don't have anything specifically related to this. If you are going for the "to the ceiling look" you would leave a gap(2-7 inches) between the ceiling and the top of the cabinets and get to the ceiling by adding moldings. Not generally a good idea to push the cabinets themselves to the ceiling.
@@cabinetcreations short ceiling just under 8 feet The cabinets r almost to the ceiling but it looks unfinished so wondering how to finish it. its shaker white kitchen transitional. What kind of molding would be good pls
@@applesauceandhoney2407 whoever you bought the cabinets from can get you matching moldings to get to the ceiling. You will need crown molding and sometimes a starter molding. Most cabinet manufacturers offer multiple profiles/looks for the crown molding. Be prepared for a little sticker shock, most crown moldings from cabinet manufacturers are quite expensive per lineal foot.
Does the homeowner get the contingency back if not used?
Yes! As a general rule we deduct it from the final payment. Thanks for bringing that up.
Gorgeous kitchen! Love the tips you provide. I especially love the warmth of the brass hood along with the dark grey of the island countertop. Great color combination! ❤ ❤
Thanks! My wife is pretty good at this kitchen designing thing!
Thanks for this video. I heard that trash pull outs are not always a good thing. These cabinets get dirty and over used. I’m debating on including them in our kitchen remodel or not.
Like all things the trash pull out hardware can go bad over time. In the last 10 years we have replaced 1 trash pullout hardware under warranty which is a very low defect rate. The "it gets dirty" is not a great argument if you ask me because anywhere you have trash it is going to get dirty and you will have to clean it. Thanks for the comment.
@ thank you!
@@dorinatudisco1308 happy to help.
Great video! Excellent approach to the renovation process! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks so much. Coming from you that is a true compliment.
I love your videos! I had my dream kitchen built (it's the only room we did turnkey in the new house-we're doing everything else. Joy lol). The only thing that wasn't for me in this video is the trash pullout. Most of the time, people end up using a smaller-than-normal trash can in these, because those pull out hinges will wear out more quickly than other components in kitchen cabinetry if you do a full-size can (gets heavy). Smaller can=more times to take the trash out, so we just did a standard size, open top trash can in a pantry cabinet. I can definitely see their appeal, though. Again, love the work you all do! I'm sure if we lived in your state we would've sought you out!
Congrats on the new kitchen! As all homeowners have learned, homes are a never ending labor of love. Hope all your other projects go well. Have fun. Thanks for watching.
Great video.. I have got a lot of inputs for my kitchen from your videos.. I have an open concept kitchen and have good walk space.. sadly there's not much space between the kitchen island and the dinner table.
Thanks for watching, Colin! We're glad to hear our videos have been helpful for your kitchen planning. For tighter spaces between the island and dining area, consider compact or multi-functional seating options to maximize movement. Let us know if you have more questions-happy to help!
Planning ahead for a future kitchen remodel. This was great information to have. Thank you! 👍🏻
Awesome to hear. If you have any questions don't be afraid to reach out and ask for me, I would love to help.
Very informative video! Thank you! Are you able to share the cabinet line you used?

I don’t believe a floating shelf is more expensive than a cabinet. The hardware alone can cost a bundle.
We get this question all the time. A floating shelf from cabinet manufacturers are generally very expensive when compared to a floating shelf from a retailer. The quality of construction is often substantially different causing the price to be way higher. Without boring you with math equations, floating shelves from cabinet manufacturers are generally just as expensive if not more expensive than putting a cabinet in the same place.
floating are expensive??
We only use cabinet manufacturer grade floating shelves. The installation(brackets)/construction(mitered)/materials(plywood)/finish(painted) is substantially higher quality than most online floating shelves. For these reasons the floating shelves from a cabinet manufacturer are substantially more expensive compared to online floating shelves. All that to say, when comparing the storage capacity of cabinet grade floating shelves vs. cabinets, the cabinet often gives you a "cheaper storage option". Thanks for watching.
How many tiles do you want? Yes
Lol
If you are short or a child, over the stove microwaves are nowhere near eye level. Standing on a step stool and pulling something hot out of a microwave is a recipe for disaster.
We often move people towards base cabinet microwaves in these situations.
I wish more people watched these videos. The amount of people that want pintrest kitchens and tiktok creations for $5k and labor to be no more than $8K is maddening. Especially when its a place in the home you use every day.
Us too! Thanks for watching.
These are great tips! Thank you!
You're welcome. Glad they were helpful.
Thank you!
Happy to help. Thanks so much for commenting.
I love your videos. I’m a kitchen/bath remodeler (Michigan), trying to get into selling cabinets. Your videos have been helpful.
Give me a call! Would love to help out. 248.618.3332 and ask for Kirk.
Damn, this is really a $120,000 kitchen. Those appliances aren't cheap.
We don't have exact numbers on the appliances but I don't think you're wrong.
@@cabinetcreations I'd happily pay an extra 10% for a GC to totally figure out overall cost and guide me to spend money the best way. Personally I'm happy with a high quality, 15k+ stove, and I can add fancy cabinets around it years down the road.
Close up video shots have a different floor (and stools) than when he is sitting and talking.... why?
Thanks for watching! The kitchen I am sitting in isn’t the kitchen being highlighted in the video.
Great video as always! It's true that if you don't get the thing you really want b/c of $ it can lead to remorse. One thing a homeowner can do though is try to spend to cut costs elsewhere if possible to compensate. I found countertops and a wood cabinet finish I REALLY loved, but it put us over budget. My solution was to only do those custom cabinets on the wall and do semi-custom ones in a different color (off-white) in the island, wait for sales for lighting/appliances (and got some of them from American Freight), and agreed to do the painting myself. This brought the budget back down some to a more reasonable number.
Is to try to cut costs*
Glad you found it useful! You are on the right path. We educate homeowners about reallocating dollars all the time. We also talk about reallocating dollars in multiple videos.
This is so true. I approached my kitchen reno different from most. The company I choose asked what my budget was. Instead I told them everything i wanted and asked for an estimate. Once I had the estimate I saved towards that goal. Took me 8 years to save ( i dont do debt). I still gave up some things because I decided it wasn't important enough to justify the cost. But I got all of my must haves.
