Hi my name is Melissa Grassia-Chisholm. I'm a speech pathologist/voice therapist. I am a singer first and studied vocal performance at Berklee College of Music and Adelphi University. I received my Master's in speech Pathology at Nova Southeastern University. I still love to sing and lead worship at church, but my passion is to help other people find their voices again. This channel is to help you find your voice. Remember to always seek and ENT evaluation before initiating voice therapy. I am located in South Florida and would be happy to meet with anyone local.
Did you know you can combine CPT codes 92610 (clinical swallow evaluation) + 92610 (FEES)

@thevoicerehab is your voice now deep ?
@ not at all. Check out my IG, I’m actually soprano
Is this good if you have a cyst on vocal chords
How does this relate to the speaking voice? Should the exercise feel the same as speaking/singing?
Eggplant is drippin
I cried throughout as well. 😢 Breaks my heart
I totally understand, it’s so emotional!
Thank you. I am working with this.
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear you're working with it. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Did the edema go away?
Yes absolutely with voice therapy semi occluded vocal tract exercises and nebulizing .9% saline daily
@@thevoicerehab could I have more info on the 9% saline to nebulise please?
@@Vesper2424 you can check it here :) Myvocalmist.com
@@thevoicerehabhello ..how often can I use 9% hypertonic saline for vocal chord edema..?? Will it be helpful if cord edema is caused by voice over use....can I use nebulized hypertonic saline instead with budesonide ??
@@thevoicerehab also sorry very last question, how long did it take to go away?

Hello thank you for the video, I found it very interesting. But I still have one question, what can be the effects on healthy vocal chords ? I don't have any injuries but still, I sing every day for my job, can it be useful to these exercices on a daily basis ? Thank you !
This exercise promotes stamina , balance , and forward resonance everyone can benefit. Sometimes I adapt it to straws
Perfect thank you so much! I want to begin working with straws also@@thevoicerehab
Thank you I’ll try this . I have mild right cord paralysis due to tracheal stenosis surgery. Pray I can get a better voice
I’m so sorry to hear this diagnosis. This could be a good try to get better vocal stamina. Also use the stress for better balance
Thanks, very helpful
Thanks dear
Very useful information 🙏
How long does this last? Do you need to redo the procedure?
I’ve never needed another procedure praise God!
it just makes no sense. you ask everyone sing F4. but different voices have different vocal mechanisms on that pitch. it is upper note for bass, that is mixed or can be sung in falsetto. it is passagio tone for sopranos and some mezzos. it is upper chest note for tenors. different effort. different mechanisms. some can only scream this. I don't understand. May be we should transpose it for males. Is it for chest voice? or what?
Yes use the octave lower for male voices. It’s following The research based protocol for strengthening speaking voice by Joseph Stemple. Remember as soft as possible and balanced definitely a head voice tone and very resonant
Melissa After 5 weeks should we continue,? To use these exercises In order to maintain are vocal cords, Or do you recommend something else once the 5 weeks have been reached
Yes. These are a great way to keep maintaining your vocal stamina
@melissagrassiachisholmthe_5173 ok thank you I will continue doing so for as long as I have life
When I first scrolled I thought this was something else…
Wonder ful mam
It is helpful for all.
are you breathing out in through nose after phrase when you want to do it through mouth?
Nasal breathing in all you do is key to balancing the subsystems of speech
if you're still around how do you speak after concert backstage when out of breath breathless mouth heavy breathing. do you also teach how to calm down?
Yes, I personally tend to go to a higher habitual pitch, and use stretch and flow techniques to call my voice down after a long morning of singing
@@thevoicerehab can you show how?
@@thevoicerehabyou look good in dress do you do online guided breathwork?
Thank you for sharing this. It has helped me a lot. I use it every day.
Hello I love your video. Where can I buy the straw jewel?
oovostraw.com/. Love mine
I had a subdural hematoma and my vocal chords were frozen in the closed position. My left vocal chord is scarred and my right vocal chord is paralyzed. I’ve been to ents and speech pathologists. I didn’t do the exercise homework when I was young. That was dumb. Do you think this could fix my vocal chords please? Thank you
Oh wow!! You have quite a difficult journey my friend. I wish I could say there was something for you as easy as exercise but the medical team of MDs will need to address. Find a good larygologist. Do you need a trach to breath?
They thought of doing that but thankfully my parents convinced the doctors not to give me a trach. Thank you
Hi , can you give me App’s name ?
Pitch perfect. ….it’s free
This does really work tried this exercise once and found it so effortlessly to sing 1st verse of unchanged melody
Thank you baby simple and awesome
Yeah, I don’t know about all that, looks like… nvm
Hi I am a professional singer suffering from sulcus vocalis.. I am worried a lot please help me to get through this problem.. doctor has suggested voice therapy.. please make a video related to this.. please mention exercises which are helpful.. my humble request 🙏
Unfortunately, sulcus vocalis is very difficult to improve. Did your laryngologist offer you a vocal cord injection? Try these exercises to find balance and strengthen the voice, but the vibratory source in the middle is affected by the Soukous vocalis, and it’s hard to regain.
Hello mam i have vocal nodules in my throught nd i m teacher my voice is very harsh please help me mam
This exercise for phonatory gap is Plz reply
After years of isolation and rarely talking, I have lost most of my voice at 70. I’m appreciative of the way you present these exercises
I saw this in Alien
Isn't it crazy to have an alien inside of us?
Ive had a thyroidectomy, and this is extremly dificult but good
Will this help for hypothyroidism?
I don’t teach nor sing but talk kind of fast and loud I guess so I have nodules on my cord that makes it difficult to talk at work. These works for me immediately, especially the stretching part
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I went to have my vocal cords checked this week and they're healthy. The specialist said that it's muscle weakness due to menopause. Will this technique help me? Who knows, but it can't hurt to try it can it? I know that when I tried it the first time that my voice was breaking and gritty but that's nothing unusual as when I sing just now, my voice disappears soon after I start. All the best.
Yes. Definitely try it out for at least 4-5 weeks. Only takes about 7 minutes
@@thevoicerehab I'm doing it now. Thank you. 🙂
So what exercises do you do after the five weeks?
Thank you!!
I would love to see the whole video of the vocal cords. This is incredible! If only I was so relaxed and was able to sing when having this test done. Wow! You've got an amazing voice!!
