Glad you found it useful - was driving a few people in my workplace a bit mad trying to figure it out!

For this method I'd suggest not having bank rows, as even if you had it skipping a blank row because it is tied to the row number you'd end up with a gap in your number. E.g. using =IF(ISBLANK([@Column2]),"",ROW()-ROW(Table1[[#Headers],[Column1]])) and row 7 was empty, you would get 1,2,3,4,5,6, ,8, 9,10. Instead, if your table starts in A1 and the first row is row 2, with column B/column 2 being the column you want values to be in to add a number, use this formula: =IF(ISBLANK(B2),"",COUNTA($B$2:[@Column2])) If it isn't formatted as a table this would be: =IF(ISBLANK(B2),"",COUNTA($B$2:B2)) and copy it down. Hope this makes sense and helps! :)

Thanks for the feedback, really helpful for future reference - did add some timestamps to this video so that people could skip the intro bits. I'll also consider the other aspect, although have had feedback the other way that some people like the setup intro.... Maybe say at the beginning in future videos to skip to the timestamp if you already have a pivot table setup!

Thanks for the comment. I'm actually about to film an updated video for office 365, as this was done a while ago. Always great to hear tips and thoughts from others!

There are quite a few issues with the old methods that really depend on setup. About to film a video with an updated method - so keep an eye out over the next week or two.

The Developer tab isn't displayed by default, but you can add it to the ribbon. I think I cover this in a number of videos, but here are the steps: On the File tab, go to Options > Customize Ribbon. Under Customize the Ribbon and under Main Tabs, select the Developer check box.

I do have a new solution and should hopefully have a video out next week sometime!

Have you tried checking the source data. To do this, select the 'PivotTable Analyze' tab. Then click 'Change Data Source' and ensure that your whole table is selected (or that the correct data is corrected). I've seen this issue when there has been changes to the source data and this usually resolves it. Hope it helps!

Interesting question. What version of excel are you using - as I have office 365 and when I use LEN on the function your gave as an example, I do get the output length (2).

Sadly I haven't been able to replicate this continuing error. But if I find a potential alternative solution I will let you know!

Looks like you have to uncheck all third party add-ons and check them in again. Sometimes they interfere with excel. It worked for me.

Sounds like you have an array formula that means you are getting this error. Might be easier to see can you incorporate a 'sort' function into that formula to sort in the way you want. Alternatively, you could paste your table as values and then sort - but this isn't really a long-term dynamic solution. Bit hard to tell the exact issue without seeing the workbook.

You may have accidentally added a formula to a shape when it's been selected in design mode. Try pressing escape twice if it is still selected and you can do anything. Or maybe delete an re-add with any formula. Hope this helps

Should appear automatically when you add the developer tab. However, if it doesn't, right click on your ribbon; select 'customise the ribbon' and then find 'Add-ins' in the command list on the left. Select add to add it into the tab you want. Hope this helps.
