How long have you been playing smite? I think you need to watch a few videos on the basics. For one you're not leveling your abilities which you can do each time you level up. In assault you start at level 5 which means you can level all 4 abilities and have 1 left over to add to an ability. You played the whole game without leveling your abilities which make them stronger.
