Go Bills!
This ABS Block went out on me while coming down the proverbial mountain road in the middle of nowhere. 1/5 star experience would not recommend. Great Lars videos! Keep em coming.
Hey, if you need a working ABS valve system, I have one taking up space on my workbench.
LOL!! It looks a lot like my place!
Another solid video, Sir. Just straight to the point with everything! We specifically produce LEDs for auto. Can we invite you as a collaborator to do a review? If so,How can we connect with you?
Damn! End of an era! I just bought an Aircooled 2.0 1982 vanagon yesterday! Your videos are a fantastic reference. Cheers 🥂
You got yourself a great machine.
Easily the Best Looking, Cleanest, Well-kept Air cooled Vanagon i've seen on youtube! I hope the new owner can keep up with the maintenance like you did. Congrats on 500!
She’s a beauty.
Still having trouble trying to post any comments (especially with other YT links) so try searching "Vw Eurovan Steering angle sensor code" and you'll find a video by CoolAirVW RM that gives some good VCDS coding information related to the Steering Angle Sensor.
I like those running boards, also you're Jeep looks sick.
Thanks, Mrs Smith picked a pretty sweet ride. Even though those aren’t super heavy, they do look good.
Hey Mr Smith, thanks for the video. I have a question. How do you get the drive axle up through the small area between the frame, trans, and the upper control arm. I have jacked up control arms as far as they will go, but when I finally did get the axle through, the cv joint fell apart. Argh. I might zip tie the CV joint together and cut it after I get it through. Hoping for a slick trick to slide in place. Thanks again.
Actually, looks like I need to loosen the transmission rear support, pendulum support, in order to move the transmission forward to give enough space. We'll see.
I never took the axles out, guess I was lucky I didn’t.
@@mrsmithgarage8115 Yes, removing the bolt that connects the pendulum support to the trans allowed me to move the engine and trans forward about an 1/2 inch. This was just enough room to install the axel. "Just enough" where it was still difficult keying in the inner CV joint though a tight space. Again, thanks for your videos.
I’m glad that worked. I had the engine and transmission free from the axles when getting those in there. Glad you like the videos!
Where isthis ?
San Francisco at Ocean Beach every January
Trying this one more time - the air vent likely does need to come out. In the 1997 van that's where the cruise control module was located, but now CCM is part of the ECU/ECM. Search the web for the eurovan wiki page for cruise control module removal. I've tried to post the link but my comment keeps disappearing.
Thanks for sending that info. I ended up finding a few wires that were not plugged in. Those resolved Tue code for the ABS module relay. Still working to figure out the steering angle sensor though. Any tips on that?
@@mrsmithgarage8115 - do not have any useful knowledge regarding the steering angle sensor. Hope you get it fixed, If you ever do have to reach the ABS Solenoid Relay J106, I can confirm that it definitely is under the passenger air vent - I pulled the air vent out of the 2003 GLS parts van I have to confirm that Relays are in fact located there. Saw one with a #14 production code on it and at least one more under the duct. Good luck with the SA Sensor / light / code. Will be watching to see if you find a fix. Love the channel!
@@mrsmithgarage8115 I forgot that I had seen a useful video on YT where the issue with the Steering Angle Senser had to do with the coding in VCDS (VAG). I described what to search for over in a comment to that thread but will try to post the link here again ... th-cam.com/video/tFsqC6U2Ync/w-d-xo.htmlsi=V0HmRVSzJ5ymk4b0
Hi Mr Smith, I have the same van as Lars, just wanted to say how grateful to you I am for giving me a chance of looking after what I would class as a complicated engine !! Thankyou Did you resolve the Abs problem? Is it not just the wires to the brake calipers? presumably you've checked that.Did Bowen from the UK
Not yet, still working on the ABS issue. I have not checked those, but now I will.
A beautiful view 👍
Great video, was looking what valve spring compressor to buy for my VR5.
That one I got from Amazon worked well after trying several. Good luck to you.
Nice work man!
4 rotations to line up intermediate sprocket again my friend
Very nice, that will be fun for exploring our area
Nice video, I love it.
Hi, from where vehicle is this spring?
Sir. I told you let it be. You have no idea. Visit a Garage.
Wow - been looking for someone showing how to do this on TH-cam for the last two days. Finally found you video! Thanks! Any gotchas with reattaching the wiring harness when replacing the bumper?
As long as your wires are good, shouldn’t be any surprises. I used a few zip ties when reinstalling.
Thank you for making these videos , this is making this job a little easier to get done!
Sir. Play with your Fingers, but not with a car. You are to old. If I take a gearbox out I need less then 20 min without any Jacks.
Sir. Pls. Let it be. Bus a old Jeep, but not a wonderful German Car.
You did a work for nothing Sir. But I think you have time therefor. If the gearbox leaks in this area you have not to open it. Only take a look.
Are both vans both still WBX engines? Good to see these vans out making memories!
Actually, my White 82 is air cooled, and the Blue Syncro is a diesel.
i think i'm screwed, my transaxle are both leaking a lot and i guess it wont be cheap at all if you need to take the transmission down
It’s not too terribly difficult. You don’t have to drop your engine, jump at need to have some support for it from above. Actually you don’t even have to remove the tranny, you can replace the seals while it is in the vehicle. Just makes it a little more difficult.
@@mrsmithgarage8115 thx, unfortunately i have multiple leaks. I think i'll start by replacing the oil pan gasket. do you know the torque i have to use to reinstall it? Can i reuse the bolts? The other one unfortunately seems to be the engine mail seal behing the clutch (also something very outside of my confort zone and the tools i have )
I think it was pretty low, because they are small bolts, maybe 18ft lbs. in one of the videos I did on the engine rebuild I have pictures of the torque specs.
Ferdinand is a Beaut!
Definitely interested in the route you take to solve transmission issues. I’ve read swapping the filter and oil and added trans coolers can help
Turn key to on position, floor the throttle for 30 seconds, lift your foot off after the 30 seconds. Turn the key to off. Wait for 10 seconds then start it up. I did this 3 times over three days. It seems fine finally.
get VCDS and cable to scan all the codes. zurich wont be able to do it.
I learned most of what i know about VCDS watching ' coolairvw rm ' . check it out. he mentions that 01M trans are very similar to a 01P. waiting for the next video!
if i may, i suggest to change the ATF first, i use maxlife on my jetta no problem, and if you dont have a transmission cooler, i suggest to add one. it fixed my slipping auto in my jetta. Usually cost less than 100. i do that for all my auto trans.
Since its a 2002, if you dont have it, please get rosstech VCDS and a cheap vagcom OBD cable so you can scan the codes properly and do deeper diagnostics. VCDS is also good to find out whats wrong with the ABS and every part that has a ECU !
Where can I find the service manual online for the t4?
I found one at emanualonline.com
And they cover the 2.8 vr6? The Haynes is pretty useless for the vr6
Yes, but I made sure I got the one that covers 2001-2003.
new filter looks really dry to me... no leaks!
At one time, My 82 was stalling when driving and trying to down shift or coast with the clutch depressed. My old AFM was sticking somewhere during the sweep and causing the van to die. I bought a rebuilt one and fixed that issue (exposed others). Vacuum leaks would be more consistently stalling I would think...same with ground issues.
I live in fear of screwing up my subie swapped Vanagon engine by hosing it off. The engine compartment needs it. I remain fearful.
Like @lucvanmalderen7064 and @pyronitro, I speculate it's faulty ignition switch. Thanks for sharing this video of your VW Life trials. Best of luck in your troubleshooting! #VWLife #DriveYourBus #JillTheVanagon
Yea my first guess is the ignition switch also. Hope you figure it out soon.
0:09 I have a 1999 EVC. The Eurovan’s ignition switch is notorious for going bad. Maybe this is similar. It’s just like turning off the key while you are driving. I almost got stuck in Flagstaff, AZ on my way back to SoCal. Once I got my van started, I never turned it off, nor did I touch my ignition switch, until I got home. Replacing the ignition switch fixed my problem. Good luck.
Man! Your ride is so quiet and composed over all thise dirt roads. My 88 Westy is nowhere near that smooth. What's the secret?
Slow and steady. 14” wheels with fatty tires. 27/8.5 by 14
It’s the only way to clean them. I use a foaming dirt, & engine degreaser then the garden hose. A clean engine gives me a good feeling inside.
Thanks so much for this video, very informative, i am busy with one of these ATM and got the valve rockers/hydraulic lifters mixed up, as i see they are all numbered..do you have any idea of the correct order ?
I kept mine in order, that’s how I remembered which ones to put back where. It not because the wear may be different where each one was s placed.
Go Lars!
I cant find any info on this event. Could you post a link to it?
Sorry I was late in getting back to you. It was posted on the group Vanagon Cafe.
