This channel collects together my various video and film projects. I trained in fine art, specifically sculpture, and have worked for music technology magazines for many years, so most of my posts involve art and music.
What Is A Tree?
The lyrics to What is A Tree? date back to April 1991 and the song itself was recorded shortly after. The track is one of a series of environmentally-concerned tracks which The Afterthought created, several of which can be found on the Green Demo Archive via Bandcamp and other digital media outlets. This version of the song is taken from a 4-track cassette demo.

Music by Tom Flint. A musical experimentation using a test piece of ambient software and some sampling done in Cyprus.

I filmed this as a test, but it's actually quite a nice sounding recording, so I've uploaded it for all to hear!

One of The Afterthought's oldest songs, dating back to 1990. This version, rescued from an old c90 cassette, was referred to as the Industrial version.
Cambridge Kirin International Arts Festival 1993 Documentary
มุมมอง 824 ปีที่แล้ว
This video, produced by Chris Dorley-Brown, was the result of a project organised via The Cambridge Junction in 1993. The filming, sound recording and presenting was done by local young people who were aged between 13 and 21, usually working in groups of three. The aim was for the participants to learn how to produce a short film and to document the arts festival that was taking place. The fest...
Black Hole Simulation by Brian Flint

"This is my prediction of what will be seen when the first movie of a black hole is made. As the Black Hole spins, the enormous centrifugal forces causes hot hydrogen gas to be emitted." Brian Flint. This simulation illustrates some of the information explained in videos by Brian Flint, already published on this channel.

This is the second video by Brian Flint, explaining his theories of the universe. The first video ran through his ideas in general. This one fills in many of the details. The Afterthought Lost Piano Number 1993
มุมมอง 2245 ปีที่แล้ว
Another clip from the 1993 sessions by The Afterthought. We were really, really please with the ideas in this piece, but we never quite worked out every part. We'd programmed a kind of chorus but you can see that it was so new to us that we were unsure of what to play over that part, and we weren't sure when it started. Still, Colin's melodic brilliance shines through on the piano, and morphs i...

I just repaired two MTV’s after countless hours tinkering with them and combing over whatever schematics and info I could find. Among other issues, the tuners were broken in both of them and had to find some Varicap and diodes that would work in the VHF circuit since the originals are unmarked. Finicky things! I wish there was a way to reproduce those integrated circuits!
Utterly divine. Such talent!
Wow thanks for sharing your method
Absolutely beautiful.
No words..totally in awe🥰
Such Beautiful Art!
Que hermoso trabajo que talento yo me gustaría poder Aser eso es muy bonito es lo más bonito que he visto grasias por compartir tu trabajo chulada
I used to have the SInclair Pocket TV as well as an early portable LCD TV. If memory serves me right, the image on the Sinclair TV was better than the one on the LCD, because, tbh, LCDs in those days were all a bit rubbish.
Is it rapunzel? I noticed Victoria herself has very short hair. I wonder how this story has resonated in her own life.
As someone who works with clay professionally I'm astonished how easy the sculptor has made this project look. It is a testament to her skill and control of her medium. Magnificent design and execution. One observation I'd make is that the music accompanying the visual story is very loud and doesn't contribute positively.
There is a volume control so you can adjust the music. It might not be to your taste but the music is a vital to the success of the film. It was composed and recorded just for this project, taking into account the kind of score Victoria wanted. I shot over three hundred clips of Victoria making her work over about five days, resulting in hours of footage. I cut them together using the tempo of the music to pace the length of the visuals and keep the flow. So the film was created to the music.
I wished I had the stuff to do that I would be good at that so beautiful and therapeutic
Magic
Beautiful, you are so amazing
Amazing art.
Fantástica
Hermoso trabajo sigo mirando hace 6 años el mimo trabajo felicitaciones 👏
A truly fascinating "reflection" on the development of miniature pocket TV's 🌏🇭🇲

we're all following you Brian ~ !
I still own the multi standard model which I bought new in 1978, but I believe this was not the first Sinclair micro TV. I seem to remember an earlier model produced in the late 60s or early 70s which was advertised by ex Coronation Street actress Pat Phoenix in electronics magazines all those years ago. Does anyone have copies of Practical Wireless from those years with the advertisement, as I'm sure that would be where I saw it.
Hi Graham, the development from the 1960s prototype to your 1978 model is discussed in the video.
I have one of these TVs and would really like to know if the tuning can be modified to receive channel 3 so I can try the experiments you can do with micrrocontrollers (ESP8266) .Thanks Tom for an excellent video on these amazing little forerunners of flat screen televisions.
What is the transfer medium? Some voice over description would help. Otherwise, we're just witnessing some amazing artwork in production.
There is a voice over at relevant places, but you will have to watch it through.
Wow. Gorgeous work. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing but how do you keep it from drying out whilst you work on the piece, you don’t seem to cover the areas you are not working on ?
Hi Gingy, a few years ago someone asked Vic a similar question. Her reply was "I wrap it in plastic and spray it occasionally. Its better to work with when its just short of leather hard." I have a feeling she sprays it with vinegar. She might get back to you herself but she's recovering from an illness at the moment.
Nice work
i didn't get it. sorry

Wow!
What type of clay do you use?

a lot of patience and persistence is needed for this job. Congratulations on your work and the video as well
What do you use as a base under the clay? Also, do you do a flat layer of clay above that?
I use a board called superlux under the clay but the clay I carve into is a 1cm rolled slab of clay and I don't add any clay to that I just take away excess clay.
@@victoriaellisceramics7262 thanks. I really like this and I'll try to give it a shot
Detailed, yet super clean looking. Great stuff.
Simply AWESOME! 🤍👏🏾
Nasa has today ( 22 July 2022 ) put out the following statement "There were 10 times more galaxies just like our own Milky Way in the early Universe than previously thought. This cosmic insight comes from one of the first studies of images captured by Nasa's new James Webb Space Telescope " This statement or something similar to it, is what I was expecting to hear as soon as the images of first far distant galaxies were processed from the new James Space Telescope. Watch my clip ' There is No Such Thing As A Protogalaxy' above.
Sinclair, hideous quality stuff, even their 48k computers overheated within 5 minutes, used to have to put mine in the fridge to cool down every few minutes haha
How to order????
I am unable to take on commissions at the moment sadly as I have developed severe ME/CFS from covid but I hope that in the future I am able to make. I do have a few pieces in stock if you are really interested.
I want one decorate on my eggs! So excited about trying this!
That is beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
What kind of paper was she using when she put the fountain pen ink on it before she transferred it to the clay?
just printer paper
A beautiful piece of art and such a talent!
Wowwww
Did you apply clay layers for the clothing?
no it was all carved away.
Quel beau travail ! Bravo ! Et merci.
Hi Tom, can I kindly ask if Brian when working at Sinclair ever had to deal with a prototype 4 function calculator? I have a Sinclair prototype of a calculator, it's a non-working design prototype. Mustard yellow color, I believe it is made of clay or aluminum with resin lid. It should have been designed between 1975 and 1977, but no other information is found. Maybe Brian could remember that. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Claudio
Hi Claudio. I did not have much to do with the various calculators which were produced in the mid 1970s at Sinclair Radionics. I did however help test the very first calculator ' Executive' calculators which were made on a small production line in 1972.
