    Hi Anthony, Thank you for the video and for bringing in Oscar to share his path towards becoming a licensed engineer in the US. I’m in a similar process, education was approved and was able to pass the NYS FE exam. My question is, do the two years working under licensed engineers in the US but before passing the FE exam count towards the experience required to take the PE exam. Also, do the six years working abroad count for anything? I appreciate this is solely at the board’s discretion (which I’m anxiously awaiting for their reply), but wondered if you have any thoughts on how that may pan out. Thanks again, Guy.

      @PassthePEExam 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @anuragjain3719 Thanks for your comment and for watching our video! I understand your confusion about the PE and PMP certifications. In the video, I mentioned the PE exam because it's another popular option for engineers looking to advance their careers. While the PMP is focused on project management, the PE license demonstrates your competence as a professional engineer in a specific discipline. Here's why someone might choose the PE path even if they're interested in project management: - Industry Requirements: In some industries and roles, a PE license is a requirement or a strong advantage, even for project managers. - Technical Expertise: The PE license validates your deep technical knowledge and skills, which can be valuable in leading technical projects. - Career Flexibility: Having both the PE and PMP certifications can broaden your career options and make you a more competitive candidate for senior roles. Ultimately, the best path for you depends on your specific career goals and the requirements of your industry. If you're primarily interested in project management, the PMP is likely the better choice. However, if you want to establish your technical expertise and potentially open doors to certain roles or industries, PE is worth considering. I hope this clarifies things!

    Do you have to be a resident of the state if you plan to take the PE exam and obtain your license in another state that could grant an FE waiver?

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @knighthawks97 Great question! Whether you need to be a resident of the state to take the PE exam or obtain your license can vary depending on the specific state’s licensing board requirements. Some states may allow non-residents to take the PE exam or offer an FE waiver under certain conditions. It’s best to check directly with the licensing board of the state where you plan to apply for the exam or licensure to confirm their rules regarding residency and FE waivers.

    I am a foreign educated electrical engineer, and I am considering to apply for a working visa, and open an engineering firm in Florida or Texas. Can I prove my relevant experience with my work record outside the US? Can I register for the FE and PE exams together in those states? Can I get a license from the board before the end of the visa process, or I need to have a working visa before applying for a license?

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @ediwansilva7761! Thanks for your interest in becoming a licensed engineer in the United States. I'm happy to answer your questions. Yes, you can prove your relevant experience with your work record outside the US. You will need to submit your educational and professional credentials to the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) for evaluation. Once your credentials are evaluated, you will be eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. You cannot register for the FE and PE exams together. You must pass the FE exam before you can take the PE exam. You cannot get a license from the board before the end of the visa process. You must have a valid working visa before you can apply for an engineering license. The requirements for obtaining an engineering license vary from state to state. You can find more information about the specific requirements for Florida and Texas on the Florida Board of Professional Engineers website and the Texas Board of Professional Engineers website, respectively. I hope this helps! Here are some additional resources that you may find helpful: National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES): ncees.org/ Florida Board of Professional Engineers: fbpe.org/ Texas Board of Professional Engineers: pels.texas.gov/

    • @PassthePEExam

      @rqpas Thanks for watching and for your great question! The PE Exam generally follows the same format as the FE Exam, with questions aligned to the Exam Specifications. You can expect the questions to be grouped by topic areas, similar to the FE. However, it's important to note that the specific order of the topic areas within each section may vary. The best way to prepare is to be familiar with the exam specs and practice questions across all topic areas. Remember, the key is to stay focused and confident on exam day. Don't let any unexpected question order throw you off your game. Best of luck on your PE Exam!

    Rhode Island (RI) waives the FE Exam if you have an EAC/ABET degree and 12 years of experience. They recently allowed technology grads to take the PE - but they can’t get an FE waiver - they MUST sit for the FE.

      @paulg3316 Thanks for bringing up the specific case of Rhode Island. You're absolutely right about their recent change allowing technology grads to take the PE, but unfortunately not granting them the FE waiver. It's a great example of how each state can have its own unique requirements and exceptions. It's important for aspiring engineers to do their research on their specific state's licensing board rules. If you're unsure, reaching out to the board directly is always a good idea. Thanks again for sharing this valuable information with our community!

    I first got my PMP certification a few years ago when working for a power utility as an engineer who mostly managed other people's work. I since moved to a design firm where the PE is more meaningful since we do more technical work. I took the FE earlier this year and plan to take the PE in Industrial Engineering this October. Both the PE and PMP are important, but the type of work you do (and that your company is involved in) can play a major factor in which you should pursue first.

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TheChristianna321 Thank you for sharing your experience and insights! You've perfectly illustrated how the value of different certifications can vary depending on one's career path and industry. It sounds like you've made some very strategic choices in pursuing certifications that align with your evolving roles. We wish you the best of luck on your upcoming PE exam in October! Your comment is a fantastic reminder that it's essential to consider your specific career goals and the nature of your work when deciding which certifications to pursue.

    I recently passed the PE chemical exam. As a chemical engineer, I have had site manufacturing engineering roles as well as engineering design firm roles. I’m worried my site engineering roles will not count as qualifying experience for my license application. You mentioned that in industries where you do not offer engineering services to the public, non licensed supervisors will work. But what would one put for the project section of the experience write up?

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jonathanpineda2774 Congratulations on passing the PE chemical exam! That's a great accomplishment! Regarding your concern about qualifying experience, it's understandable to be unsure, especially given the varied nature of engineering roles. While I did mention that in industries where engineering services are not offered to the public, non-licensed supervisors might be present, that doesn't automatically disqualify your site engineering experience. The key factor is whether your role involved responsible charge of engineering work, requiring the application of engineering principles and judgment. For the project section of your experience write-up, focus on highlighting specific projects where you exercised independent judgment and made engineering decisions. Even if the overall industry doesn't offer direct services to the public, you can still describe your individual contributions and the engineering challenges you addressed. It's always recommended to consult with your state licensing board if you have specific questions about the acceptability of your experience. They can provide the most accurate guidance tailored to your situation. Remember, the goal is to demonstrate your competence and responsible charge of engineering work, regardless of the specific industry setting.

I sent all the documentation three days ago, and I hope my school is recognized so that I won’t have to take extra courses. They asked for a notarized copy of my diploma here in the USA. @user-bv2nv6xx9g Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience. It's great to hear you're actively pursuing your NCEES approval. The waiting period can definitely be nerve-wracking, but hang in there! Regarding your questions: - School Recognition: While I can't say for sure if your specific school will be recognized, the NCEES does have a comprehensive list of accredited programs. You can check their website for that. If your school isn't listed, don't worry too much. You might need to take some additional courses, but it's definitely doable. - Notarized Diploma: It's standard procedure for them to ask for a notarized copy, especially for documents from foreign institutions. It helps verify the authenticity of your diploma. - Work Experience: The NCEES does take work experience into account, even if it's from your home country. However, they typically focus more on your educational background and how it aligns with U.S. engineering standards. That being said, having four years of experience as a civil engineer is definitely a plus and could potentially strengthen your application. Remember, the evaluation process takes time, so try to be patient. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions about your application, don't hesitate to reach out to the NCEES directly. They're usually very helpful in providing guidance. Keep us updated on your progress! We're rooting for you!

      Hi @user-ff1jr2ud3v, thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, the PE exam is typically administered at designated testing centers. This was an excellent video about the value of obtaining a PE license. I have to agree that it can make a huge impact whether a company truly supports the licensure process and provides ample resources to improve the success chances of those who are endeavoring to become licensed. Sadly there are a lot of companies that do not provide this level of support. They will want to use you for your license once you obtain it, but the path leading up to that point ends up being a very lonely experience. The second point I would like to make is how companies tend to look at an EIT vs. a PE. I have personally heard a PE refer to the unlicensed engineers as "grunts". There doesn't seem to be even a basic level of respect. There are companies where the EIT really has no voice. They don't care about their opinions. The way to change that is to get the PE. That is the elevating factor. All of a sudden, people care about what the person says once they are a PE. Thanks for posting this interview!

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @granitebuilt5836 Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your insights and for watching the video! We're glad you found it valuable. You raise such important points about company support (or lack thereof) in the licensure process. We couldn't agree more - a supportive environment makes a world of difference. It's disheartening to hear about companies that don't prioritize this, but your experience highlights why it's so crucial for aspiring PEs to find organizations that value their growth. The distinction you made between how EITs and PEs are often perceived is also spot-on. It's unfortunate that respect isn't always freely given, and it's true that the PE license can change the dynamic. We hope this conversation inspires more companies to recognize the value that all engineers bring to the table, regardless of licensure status. Thanks again for adding your perspective to this discussion!

      @thefirefighter8417 Hi! If you're looking to become a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the US with 8 years of mechanical engineering experience in Qatar, here's the simplified path: - Education Evaluation: Have your engineering degree evaluated by a NCEES-approved agency. - FE Exam: Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. - Experience Verification: Document your engineering experience for review by your chosen state's licensing board. - PE Exam: Pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam for mechanical engineering. - State Licensure: Apply for licensure in the state where you want to practice. Remember, each state has its own requirements, so research the specifics for your chosen state. The NCEES website (ncees.org) is a great resource.

Not long after graduating, I passed the FE exam on the first attempt. The PE exam was the first standardized test I ever failed on the first attempt. I recently passed the PE exam on my second attempt a few months ago. Curious where my career can go after this if he became the associate vice president.

    Good afternoon. I wanted to leave this comment to thank you for all the videos, tips and answers that helped me a lot during the process to become a Professional Engineer licensed. Three weeks ago I took the second attemp on the PE exam and passed it. From now on, the NY state board of Engineers (The state I am applying) will be notified by NCEES in 8 to 12 weeks of my passing grade and other 4 weeks to obtain the License. From the date I started this process, throughout the FE exam, approval of studies and experience, until passing the PE exam, it has been a little bit longer than 2 years. As you said, if one has a full time job, six months with a constant dedication to study are fair enough to be prepared for the PE exam. Thank you Sir.

      @selvaneshan3754 Thanks for watching and commenting! It's great you're considering both PE licensing and project management in Canada. For you, I'd lean towards the PMP certification first. It aligns well with your interest in project management and is versatile across industries, including construction where your civil engineering background is a big asset. Don't dismiss the PE license though. Research the requirements in your specific region. If it aligns with your long-term goals, you can pursue it later. Both paths have pros and cons, but with your experience, either one could lead to a fulfilling career in Canada!

      @ExpatTraderFX Yes, you can take the FE and PE exams even without a CE degree! The requirements vary by state, but you typically qualify through a combination of education (engineering or related degree) and experience. Even without a degree, enough engineering experience can qualify you. It might be a bit more challenging to get licensed without a CE degree, but it's definitely possible. Check your state's requirements for the most accurate info.

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @sagarkochale7262 Thanks for watching our video. The PEL, or Professional Engineering License, is specific to the United States and its territories. Each state has its own requirements, and there's no direct way to "gate" it to India. If you're an engineer in India looking for career advancement, there are a few things to consider: Similar Licenses: India has its own engineering licensure processes. You could look into the requirements to become a Chartered Engineer (India) or a Professional Engineer with the Institution of Engineers (India). Project Management: If you're interested in leading engineering projects, consider a project management certification like the PMP. Our podcast episode goes into more detail about that path! th-cam.com/video/5vvKHMpO7Y8/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps!

      @PassthePEExam 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ACHiMtize It's great that you're considering the PE Civil Engineering exam. With your background, you're potentially eligible, but it depends on specific state requirements in the US. Some states accept degrees in physics and related fields like yours, especially if you have relevant work experience. I'd recommend checking the licensing board's website in the state where you plan to take the exam. They'll have detailed information on educational prerequisites and work experience requirements.

    • @CasperChicago

      The NCEES requires you have a engineering degree from and an accredited ABET university. I would say no to your answer. However, many companies will train you to become an engineer and give you the title and pay of an engineer, but you will not be able to represent the company in a public manner nor sign off on anything technical because of federal and state laws. If you have a degree in physics, you should be pursuing a Masters and a job where your physics education is valued. I don't want to demean engineering, but a degree in physics is more respected than a degree in engineering.

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SD-gc6pd The requirements for obtaining a PE license in the United States vary by state, but there are some general guidelines: **Degree: You typically need a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program. Accreditation in the US context refers to a program that has been evaluated by an accrediting body like ABET [Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)]. **Exams: You'll need to pass two exams: the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam in your chosen discipline (electrical in this case). **Experience: You'll need to accumulate a certain amount of relevant work experience under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer (PE). It's possible to get a PE license with a foreign engineering degree, but you'll need to check with the specific state board to see if your degree is acceptable and what other requirements you'll need to meet.

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @udhayakumarloganathan6271 In India, the body that awards PE certifications is The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI. Here's what you need to do to get a PE certificate from IEI: Eligibility Requirements **A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification recognized by the government of India. **Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in engineering. **Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution/association. **Completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs as mandated by IEI. Process **Apply to IEI using the prescribed application format. You can find this format on the IEI website ieindia.org/. **Submit the application along with required documents like your degree certificates, experience certificates, proof of membership in a professional society, and CPD records. **If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be called for an assessment which may include an examination. **Upon successful completion of the assessment process, IEI will grant you the PE certificate. Additional Points There is a separate certification program for International Professional Engineers (IntPE) offered by IEI. The eligibility criteria for this program are slightly different. You can find details on the IEI website. The fees for PE registration and renewal are subject to change. You can check the latest fee structure on the IEI website. For more information on the PE certification process, refer to the IEI website's resources on Professional Engineers (PE) Certification: www.ieindia.org/webui/IEI_PE_Certification.aspx

    What if my bs was in science and my masters is in engineering. Does it meet the education requirements?

    • @PassthePEExam
      @PassthePEExam 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jarredking899 It depends on your specific situation and the state you wish to become licensed in. In general, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering from an accredited program is the preferred path for taking the PE Exam. However, some states may allow you to sit for the exam with a science background and a Master's in Engineering, provided you meet certain requirements: The Master's program content should be substantially similar to an accredited engineering curriculum. Experience Requirements: States that allow this route often have increased experience requirements for those without a BS in engineering. Here's what you can do to find out for sure: **Visit the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) website (ncees.org/) for general information on PE Licensure. **Contact the licensing board in the state where you wish to become licensed. They will have the most up-to-date information on specific requirements for your situation. In some cases, you may need to take additional engineering coursework to bridge the gap between your science background and the PE Exam.
