Based on elevation, can we cut this and use connectors?

Do you think you could put the lights up only using the clips, or do you think the adhesive is a must? I hesitate to stick something on the soffit like that.

The control box appears to have only one connection as does the power unit. How did you split it in the center and go out in either direction then? Or was that just in terms of measuring so that you put the split there with powered it from one end?
