Just ordered one for my RS. Thanks for the video! Any tips for the spring preload adjustment? They mention the softest setting is when it’s flush with the head of the valve and they recommend you tighten 3 full turns and start from there with 10 full turns in total. What have you found to be the best setting for reduced turbo lag?
I am set at two full turns, I have zero lag and it isn’t going off heavily every time I shift. Also keep in mind that when you are on the highway using cruise control extra boost pressure will release to help maintain your speed. Overall I would start at 3 turns and adjust to your pleasure, I just repeated what I originally had with set with the Turbosmart Kompact Bov.
@@WrenchHeadsTuningthanks man, will give it a go. It doesn’t affect cruise control though hey? I read online it won’t affect the car negatively at all, any pros and cons overall?
@TechNick I would say this biggest pro is better acceleration vs the recirculating valve. It does not negatively affect anything about the car only improves it.
Hey man how’s it going Ik I’m late but I can’t seem to find a camshaft position sensor specific for the AWD engine code, do you think you can link the same exact one you used for the video?
ebay.us/TaNc8i , here a new link for you I also renewed the link in the video description.
thank you sir👍🏽
@dayvod2801 you are very welcome
How many kms did the bike have on it before you had to do this ?
The bike had 58,000 kms (36,000 mls) on it.
My clutch is a factory Valeo. Car has 161k on it and still had the stock clutch. Finally got the motor pulled and getting ready to break it down. The difference between mine and yours is not much i just have less bolts and triple squares, Which i dont have a socket set for so ill have to go buy one before i get anything else done.
That’s impressive
I have a squealing problem. Does this mean that the clutch plates are worn and needing replacement?
When does the squealing happen?
Volkswagen has taught me a lot. They even separate the cowl and make it out of plastic, unlike other cars from that era which have steel cowls.
Use your hands to stear the bike not your legs.
Are you familiar with what happens on hard braking / deceleration?
Looks amazing! Congrats. Ignore the idiot
Why thank you,😊 I appreciate that 😂
😂😂😂I like the tape job 👍🏿
It works well
Would a bad sensor cause issues as no start(no spark) but has spark when tested. Starts cranking up to 460rpm then drops to around 200 and won’t start. No stored fault codes. One did pop up quick and disappear it was ignition something, I cannot replicate the fault code. New plugs, packs, and all the wiring looks good. Stumped. It ran great, I took the intake mani off for paint, after install just won’t start.
Yes it would, because the cam and crank sensor aren’t talking to the ECU verifying that they are in the proper position
@@WrenchHeadsTuning I actually found blue shop rags I left in my intake ports…. So that’s fancy. Do not work/ reinstall without proper lighting.
😂 yup, that’ll do it. Happy wrenching
Can you make this intercooler fit on a new beetle 1.8t?
This should fit any of the 1.8t’s with a side mount. But I would confirm with the figment tool.
Ugliest gsxr of the century
Don’t be jealous
@@WrenchHeadsTuning why would I be jealous of something that isnt pretty to me and is slower than my bike🤣🤣
@xMark0x it’s simple really, to 💩 on someone else because it’s not your own is the ultimate sign of jealousy 😊
@@WrenchHeadsTuning omg I cant believe what youre saying... Im not saying shit about anyone, Im just not liking a bike and if I wanted it I would buy it dont worry
Well clearly you wanted some feedback on your opinion or you would’ve kept it moving 😂
So the adjustment is pretty easy. After locking the springs down, you use a 5mm pin on the shifter to lock it in home position. Then you find your lock pin on the shifter cam on the transmission part and lock it down. Release the springs they grip where they need to grab and you unpin the shifter and cam.
However since I had an aftermarket shifter, the ability to hold their shifter in the home position went away.
Long term have you had any issues with these or noticed anything?
None what so ever, they have been great and holding up well. And when I drive, I drive!!!
have the exact same issue.. now I know.Thank you
Glad this helped.
Pro tip: do not use regular duct tape, it will lose it's adhesive properties within 1-3 years due to the harsh environment that it's in (hot/cold), meaning you will have to do this again. Use heat resistant aluminium tape.
I know 😞, I couldn’t find the proper tape and needed to get it fixed for the winter. So I just went with the best option at the time.
Done it 👍👍👍👌👌👌😎
Awesome, how’d it go for you?
I could be any gear (6spd) but my car is showing it’s in R on cluster. And my reverse camera is on. Can’t figure it out. 2017 wrx
That seems like the reverse switch, located in the transmission.
Sorry, I hit the wrong button on your reply and deleted it. But I would say instead of throwing it away you could just replace the sensor. It should be external and located on the shift tower.
This video is still helping people do the job themselves, thank you!
You’re welcome, very happy that people are still getting use out of this.
Where can I purchase the repair manual?
Nowadays you can go to either Napa, AutoZone or even online.
I'm in the middle of this job now. It's a pain but it's doable. I doubt any service center would do this. They would replace the box and it would cost a fortune.
Oh absolutely, because it’s cost about the same in labor, and then they can charge a 50% markup on parts
Rb. Reliable. Choose one

Sweet bike. Here in Texas we ride year round.
Thank you, unfortunately we aren’t that blessed in PA
Not a fan of the music but wishing I had someone that could let me ride with them. My grandpa let me ride with him am I loved it. Priorities lead me to not buy a bike. Totally understand the feeling of anticipation to ride
")
How did you break the risers loose from the trees? Mine are stuck in the trees.
Spray some WD-40 or liquid wrench in there, really soak it down.
I have a question please, my wife has a 2004 VW Jetta 2.0 and it runs good until shes drive it a good ways, then it'll stall when she has to stop. When she tries to start it back, it'll try to start but won't. After she's let's it sit and cool off for about 20 mins it'll start back up. Does that sound like a Camshaft Position Sensor, if not what do you think? I already put new Plugs, Plug Wire and a new Coil on it. Please let me know what you think. Thank You...
That sounds more like a vacuum leak, as the car warms up the air thins out and losing system pressure.
Just a quick word of advice for anyone attempting this job. Start the video at 17:35 then after that, watch the whole video from the beginning to end, then decide if it is worth while doing this horrible horrible job. Also thanks for the video bud, it was very helpful in terms of showing me where these stupid plastic clips are. Also, I wish I never started this horrendous ordeal.
It may suck, but it saves you 2500
Bro, I cannot thank you enough for putting this video together. I had my car tuned pretty much at sea level, however I live in the mountains where the barometric pressure is obviously different than where it was tuned. On my drive back to my place, everything was perfect until I started climbing the mountain and temperatures / barometric pressure changed, resulting in some VERY weird air fuel ratio trims, something felt very wonky and during some parts of my drive it felt like I was loosing power. After watching your video I went straight to my car and set my accessport to read barometric pressure, and I compared that with the manifold absolute pressure. Go figure... the values where no where near the same. Baro pressure was at 21.76 and my man abs pressure was reading 13.81. Did some more digging regarding the actual baro pressure where I live and it should be somewhere at ~14.5, indicating that my baro pressure sensor is faulty!!! I'll follow up once I get a new one and get it installed, hopefully my fuel trim issues will get sorted - keep your fingers crossed to the Subaru gods for me. I'm more than certain that I'll probably have to get a re-tune with the new baro pressure sensor in, but holy shit it is wild that such a thing can cause very weird idle / air fuel issues. CRAZY!
Glad the video could help

@@WrenchHeadsTuning Just to help other people find this video because it helped me p. Thank you my man
Turbo ready to come out, checking back in to see if I really need to remove the manifold, tried to cheat but you say aint happenin. dagnabbit
Yea unfortunately it’ll cause more problems than not by leaving in the manifold
Just heading out to start on this. Looks like a bitch actually. thx for the vid
Have fun, I would say spray down those exhaust bolts and studs and don’t be too rough with them.
All Ecoboost engines should be avoided at all costs. Some goes for Powershift automatic transmissions.
So far this one has performed very well, what have you experienced?
Why you granny shifting?? USE THE FING REDLINE
🤔
"just listen to that engine purr" hahaha great video! your comments are on point. i'm also getting old and feel the same. bikes and cars are different to mess with, but all in all, metalmechanics is pretty similar. keep it up!
Thank you so much. I enjoyed making the video and getting my hands on the bike for the first time.
Ive heard some people debate on if the aluminum ones are "better." Since the aluminum ones are stiffer, there are more chances of stress fractures due to its inability to flex like the stamped steel. This might not apply to the other Focus/Fusion models that use these since they aren't used for high performance applications.
That’s not likely to happen. Because of the 3 points of flex/ mounting. The only way that would happen is if your CA slams on something to cause that damage and the aluminum is more likely to maintain its shape vs the hollow stamped steel.
@@WrenchHeadsTuning ay I'm just relaying what people talked about. I wouldn't say that you shouldn't use aluminum, but it should be kept in mind that they aren't OEM for one reason or another even when lower end models use them. I personally wouldn't mind, but I still went with an exact replacement.
I’m not arguing, I’m just responding to the comment, on the dynamics of the system and how the results you mentioned could possibly happen. And typically oem goes with the cheapest possible production method, which would be stamped steel over molded aluminum.
@@WrenchHeadsTuning Yeah, it is surprising that the RS also follows that when it was the top model though. Kinda understood the "cheapest method" after the whole purge valve nonsense. Ford just slapped a software update on the ST without fixing the root of the issue, which I think was the solenoid. I may give those aluminum arms a chance if I ever need to replace the arms again. I guess I'm still a bit reserved when trusting aluminum so close to the road.
@UGFluffyTurtle yea a mild adjustment to the purge valve can make a big difference. And change the performance. Also I have used aluminum replacement arms on many cars and have never had a problem, which is usually why they can cost a bit more.
Tiene segunda parte el vídeo?
Lo siento, ¿qué quieres decir?
Sorry, no it doesn’t. What do you need to know??
Great video!
Thank you
I go it bro
Thanks for the great video. I will be doing this same thing later today!
Hopefully you didn’t have my problem.
Don't pull out the clip in the connector very bad it well brake push it in instead and pull out
So when I tried to push mines to release the pressure, it did not unclip so I did not have a choice, but to remove the clip, either way works and all honesty you just have to be careful of losing that clip with the method that I went with
Ulan amcık agızlı sıkık.ne yapmaya calısıyosun .bı bok anlatmamıssın göt
It sounds crazy man, but a regular 6-point socket will fit right on that. The 1st couple times i ran into this, i just used a 6-point shallow socket. But yeah, inverted torx can be a surprise.
It’s not really a good idea because then you’ll round off the splines, sounds like you’ve gotten lucky in that aspect, no so much my case 😆
@@WrenchHeadsTuning no kidding, I didn't say it was recommend, just meant in a bind...obviously 😆
@Rjhorning 😂 preach my man.
That shit works good lol
For real, and the dead bugs wiped off the bike easy peezy
@@WrenchHeadsTuning 🤣🤣😂
@@WrenchHeadsTuning your crazy if your still riding lol
I’m trying to squeeze in a day or two more, just short trips around the area. It’s not that bad.
Want more air? Get a better/bigger air intake🤦🏻♂️
That will only increase how much you bring in, it won’t increase whats held behind the throttle body. By adding thing I’ve basically made a larger intake manifold and have allowed for more heat dissipation in the incoming air.
@@WrenchHeadsTuning That spacers gives absolutely nothing .only waste of money. It's already been tested. th-cam.com/video/L5UQoerIC2I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PO8nPhsx9t2Mr2CF
How has it been holding up 1 year later? Any issues with the mounting brackets?
It’s still holding up well, as firm as day one and opens just as smoothly. It really is a great buy
This is so cool, keep it up😀
Thank you
Wish mine was this easy. 07 STI transmission, it's on the top. I can't even get my hand in there. Meh....
That sucks 😞
I could not open my 04 beetle convertible passenger door from the outside. Adjusting the cable tension worked like a charm for me. Thank you.
