2004 Mercedes SL500 R230 ABC Pump replacement
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
I bought a refurbished ABC pump from an auto store chain, and it didn’t work right. It sounded bad and it didn’t maintain the pressure needed to stay in spec. My original pump started to leak and caused ABC alarms. I ended up changing this pump again, so I figured why not make a video on it. I ended up having my original pump refurbished by Invasion auto products in North Hollywood, CA. They tu...

Mid job of replacing the R230 ABC pump - power steering pump on a 2004 Mercedes SL 500. I am showing what items I disassembled to remove the pump, which is dependent on the car type and not the engine type.

@@stevethemechanic7967 if you are asking how much this job would cost at a dealer, I don’t really know. I would guess $2000 since they will mark up the pump and bend you over for the labor. Has anyone had this done? You can’t even find the pumps new and this pump was $500.

The brittle connectors are a real dilemma... my secondary air pump connector shattered under the slightest of pressure.

I think that my secondary air pump connector also fell apart, and it is now just the individual lines... so you have to get the polarity right, lol.

I'm in the middle of changing a pump. I just purchased my sl 500 a week ago. Seller said pump was just replaced. Everything was great forc1 day lol. Steering rack pinion seal would dump fluid out unless I turned wheel hard left or right then it would stop leak and be fine. I had to do this routine each time I started it, until yesterday rack stopped leaking! I was thrilled for about 5 minutes until I lost My ABC completely, along with almost all pump pressure. When I took pump off today the banjo bolt with screen was in the back. I wonder if that caused a new pump to let go. My power steering always worked fine. It's my understanding that fuilds don't mix so I'm confused. There seems to be a direct correlation that when my steering stopped leaking I lost my ABC. Any imput is appreciated! Great video, but I actual had 4 boots holding pump on, 2 in front and 2 in back. Previous mechanic only had 4th bolt finger tight and the other rear was a 13mm.....2006 SL500

Depending on your cost to replace your pump the coil overs are another option they seriously work don't let them talk you went to sway bars just simply get your struts were placed You know how's the ride quality Well that depends In soft old man's mode I would say it's a little bit rougher In this Sport mode which I drive I'm thinking this about the equivalent and abc mode it's softer. Easily adjustable I've been driving this car for three months and I think it's the best season i've ever made

There are 4 bolts...the only one to not replace would be the 13mm nut...but do replace the two on the front and the shorter torx on rear, otherwise the mounting stress will transfer to the banjo bolts and cause a crack and leak on the expansion tank that the banjos bolt to..

You should send your pump to Germamy, shipping isn't that much and it worth avoiding bad rebuilds.

If I sent it to Germany, it would have taken weeks and likely more expensive due to VAT fees. I got my pump back in 3 days!

Great video. I added to my playlists for abc repairs. The only suggestion I have is that you rotate the pulley with the reservoir attached to fill the pump with fluid first before you start the engine. Ideally you would do a fluid flush and abc filter change on the old pump so that the new one has fresh fluid only.
