I like this beer, although I rarely see it, in Louisiana and only in 330ml bottles.
Congratulations Cedric with 400 beer reviews - Keep em coming.
Thanks, will do! Cheers man! 🍻
400????? Damn, that's amazing.
It is, isn't it? I can hardly believe it myself 😱 How's Thailand?! And when are you coming back? :) Cheers man! 🍻
Cheers......
Cheers to you too man! 🍻
My favorite trippel together with Rochefort triple extra. Mainly I appreciate that they are quite sweet. Can you suggest other triples to me that have clear sweet presence? Thanks!
Oh, good taste :) I used to be big on the sweeter tripels, but somewhere along the way I switched to more bitter and dry. However, if you like the sweeter tripels I think you can't go wrong with some of the typical classics like Tripel Karmeliet (Bosteels), Tripel d'Anvers (De Koninck/Duvel-Moortgat), Tripel LeFort (Omer Vander Ghinste), Vicaris Tripel (Dilewyns) or the Westmalle Tripel (Westmalle). And not sweet, but absolutely beautiful is the Chimay Tripel - the one with the white label. In my opinion a severely underrated beer. I'm curious for your opinions on these :) Cheers man!🍻
St. Feulllien Grand Cru is one of my favororite beers of all time, I can't wait to try this, if it's available here in NL. You're very lucky to have the pleasure of such a great beer, I'm a little envious. Cheers 🍻
Haha, don't be. I'm sure you have a bunch of beers around you that I don't have (easy) access to ;) I'm not sure if they still make this version, but if so: Go get one! :D Cheers man!🍻
252...Congrats!!
Thanks! Hard to believe, wow.
I absolutely adore what Senne and his team is doing. If you get the chance, visit his farm yourself. What a lovely atmosphere they created there. Great addition to the lambic world. Cheers Cedric, hope to meet up for a beer soon again. Patrick
Oh yeah, they make fantastic things. I'd love to visit them sometime this year. And of course, you're always welcome for a beer ;)
You picked my favorite! In the US it goes for $12. The artwork is also different on the bottle.
It was on sale at Whole Foods for 8.99, i picked up a couple, normally its 11.99. I like the bottles in America, they are now brown bottles, with a cooler label.
Yes, the different bottle confused me for some me time. Who would have thought Whole Foods having a good price for anything,
Ah, look at that. Great minds drink alike (or how does that saying go? 🤔) Honestly $12 for an imported beer of this quality isn't bad at all I think. We have local beers for 12€ here as well that aren't nearly as great as this one 😅. But I admit, 4-5€ is downright ridiculously cheap. I am curious for the label now tho ☺️. Cheers you guys! 🍻 Here's to another great year! And tell John I said hi ;)
All the best for 2025 🎉 We finish the year with a Val Dieu Excellence, Bourbon Oak barrel aged 13.7% 😋
Oh my, that's not a bad choice at all ☺️ I found the pricing rather steep, but I've tasted it and... Well... It sure is good. How did you enjoy it? Cheers 🍻 and on to many more lovely beers!
Great taste, ich really like it and was surprised about the taste!
If you liked this one, check out their extended range of IPA's. I can't say they're all fantastic, but they have some real gems! Cheers man! 🍻
From where is the 75cl bottle?
Great question, I'm not sure 😅 but I think it was a promo at my local Colruyt store. Cheers man! 🍻
Australian here, I work at a bar that specialises in Belgian beers, and today I bought a bottle of Cantillon Kriek, knowing I'd probably love it, and came to this video to learn a bit more about what I was drinking while sipping along with you. It's a new favourite for sure, and you earned a new subscriber today! Love the beer, love the content <3
Oh wow, all the way in Australia!? Glad I could help man. Now I'm curious for the bar (and the beer list) :D. If you have any requests, my e-mail is right under all the recent videos. Don't hesitate to ask anything. Cheer mate! 🍻
Love the wrapup summary. Quite an accomplishment to execute on both advent calendars. Stay strong and happy holidays!
Thanks Robert! In all honestly, I will be happy when the holidays are over. I'm not saying I underestimated this month long run, but I do feel why I don't do this all year round :D Cheers man, and happy holidays! 🍻🎅
I cannot understand why this channel hasn't received more subscribers or reviews. Maybe it's just "my kind of thing" - but I love the background / history of the product, the evident knowledge of our host, as well as this lovely chap's passion for beer (and his viewer's experience). Thank you!
Oh my, what a compliment. You're making me blush ☺ Thanks a lot man. Glad you're enjoying my out of hand hobby. Cheers! 🍻
There's some great brewery's in Utrecht, well worth a visit. Van der Streek also have a new taproom in the city. Maximus, Oproer and de Kromme Haring (just a few) all brew great beer and aren't afraid too experiment with new idea's. Cheers 🍻
That's right! I completely forgot that de Kromme Haring is based in Utrecht too! And I should check out the others too. Thanks for the tips man! Cheers! 🍻
I enjoyed this beer, but I found it to resemble a Belgian quad more than a standard strong stout.
You're absolutely right Ronald :D. There's a lot of discussion about that and that's why I included it in both the quad, and the stout playlist ;). Cheers man! 🍻
I was pleased with it, when I tried it. I never see it, these days.
Ah, a fine example of "des goûts et des couleurs..." ;). And luckily we have so many thousands of beers to pick from! If one's not to our liking: Next! Cheers Ronald! 🍻
I'll be looking out for this one in NL tomorrow, hope I can find it. Cheers 🍻
Ooh, I hope you do. In fact, I'll be on the lookout as well 😊 Fingers crossed man! 🤞😉🤞 Cheers!
Would guess, a lot of these beers are super fresh, and would drink better, with some age. This Advent Calendar would probably do better, sitting flat on the table. If i had got the calendar, i would have put aside a bunch of beers that would do better with time. Still cool to see what this calendar is made up of. I have had a bunch of Van Steenberge beers, and yes, they have a few average beers....Cheers
Hey Michael, Yes, you're right for the most part :D. I also think that some of these beers could use a few months in the cellar. And quite honestly, just as a safety precaution I think this advent calendar should be stored horizontally as well. However, for this series I'm using all products "AS INTENDED". Meaning I'm using the box as they intended in their design (upright) and I'm consuming the beers exactly on the date they're supposed to be consumed. I feel like, if the beers need aging, either the brewery should age them (think lambic, Flemish old browns, ...), or they should provide a disclaimer stating that the distributor, provider or consumer should age them (like Orval for example). After almost 20 years of production experience in chemicals, pharmaceuticals and brewing I find that putting the quality of a product on the shelve time with the consumer is easy and lame. If you put out a product (whether it's beer, rain jackets or baked beans...), YOU as a producer are responsible for the quality from day 1. If they wanted me to age this, they should have sold an "advent calendar 2025"... Anyhow, I do have feelings about this advent calendar. Some very positive, some very negative. But nonetheless, it's a journey of discovery. Apart from the horrible design, we just can't like/love everything ;). Cheers man!🍻
The Mr Hop calender is much more interesting I think. Our nr. 17 was superb, an excellent beer from brouwerij Wilderen, Cuvee Clarisse rum liquor infused 11.2%. Highly recommended on a cold winters evening. Cheers 🍻
Oh, that doesn't sound too bad either :D. Cheers man! 🍻
Yes, thats a realy nice one. If someone is in east Belgium, near Eupen, go to Drink Peiffer in Membach. You get it there fresh from the tap. 😋🍻
Oh, I don't know the place, but Fourchette on tap sounds pretty nice. I'll keep an eye out ;) Cheers man! 🍻
Sounds really interesting, very much too my taste I think. I'll definately look out for it. Cheers🍻
Yeah, it was a very pleasant surprise. And easily available here. I think I've found in in most Delhaize and Carrefour stores and probably some Colruyt stores as well. So they have the entire (northern part of the) country covered :D. Cheers man! 🍻
I have only tried this, once, but I did love it.
In the end that's all that counts, right? Cheers Ronald!🍻
i certainly enjoyed it.
It's awesome that you guys have access to these beers! Cheers man! 🍻
Our 11th beer was n'Toeback 7 from Brouwerij Schelde. Krush single hop, really fruity and kind of oily, different but nice.
Oh, nice! I love the Scheldebrouwerij and their n'Toeback series changes hops with every itteration. They love to experiment in this series. Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers man! 🍻
I loved it., when I tried it.
Oh, nice Ronald! Is it available where you're at or did you try it somewhere around here? Cheers man! 🍻
@@belgianbeerbrothers I bought it in Louisiana.
Nice.....remember enjoying this, mega years ago. Still got the glass with the wooden base. It was from a Belgian Gift Box.
Really? That is so cool! I'm a bit jealous now :D Cheers Michael! 🍻
I love this ale!
Back in the day, i wanted every beer to blow my face off. These days, i am more impressed with drinkability.
That's a very healthy way of looking at it. Cheers 🍻
Now thats a coincidence, our 2nd beer from our advent calender was also from Pohjala, Virvatuli from the cellar series with a lovely waxed cap. Tasted really smooth and with a sweet liquorice flavor, 13% ABV. Cheers
Oh nice! I love the cellar series. I reviewed the CocoaBanger once I believe. How did you like yours? And what advent calendar are you doing? Cheers mate! 🍻
@@belgianbeerbrothers We've got the Hello Bier craft advent calender, yesterday was it Hello beer Witte, a very good true too style witbier. Today is Muifel's Unne Zieverzak Tripel, very nice and hoppy, quite bitter but I like that. The Virvatuli was very full and very much like sweet liquorice and very strong, a strange beer with all the different herbs, actually it's a Gruit with hops, I did like it, my wife found it delicious. Cheers Paul🍻
Oh, man..would love to have both those boxes at my house. Doing okay though, some new Belgian stuff hitting the shelf, here in Portland Maine, for the Christmas season...Cheers!!!
Well, I think if you smile nice enough at Mr.Hop they'd be willing to ship anywhere 😅 If you wanna try: there's a link (no affiliate) in the description!
Looking forward to the Advent calenders....keep up the good work...Cheers!!!
Thanks Michael! I'm trying to keep up 😅
Not a major fan of Allagash. This guy comes up to me, that worked at a Belgian Style brewery and said "I dont like Allagash" and i said "Yeah, i never get to excited, always seems like there is to much of something"....and he said " Yeah, that is the yeast, thats why i dont like Allagash". So i guess my problem is with the yeast, they use. Allagash price their core line, at a good value, but when it comes to their high end stuff, they price it through the roof.
As we always say: "Des gouts et des couleurs, on ne discute pas". I personally am allright with yeasty flavours and although this one was pretty heavy on the wood side of things I still really liked it. however, I was glad that it's not a 440ml bottle, because it did come in quite strong, flavourwise... Cheers🍻
Nice.........
It absolutely was 🤤🤤
The New England IPA, is what sold me on the IPA style. They are beers for everyday drinking. The last couple years, it has slowed down, on the new releases, but there is always a new NEIPA hitting the shelf, here in America.
I've never been the biggest IPA fan, but I must admit that my knowledge of IPA's was/is rather limited. These Americans are awesome and really motivate me to explore the style more. Luckily I happen to know a fantastic IPA brewer in Antwerp, so I guess I'll have to go and bother him soon or late :). Cheers Michael! 🍻
Question for the people who sent this beer, to The Belgian Beer Brother, and since you work at this brewery....When do you feel this beer is at it peak, best time to drink?
Great question! I personally prefer IPA's as fresh as possible, assuming they've been aged for a short while at the brewery. Let's say a few days to weeks old? I have had a bunch of non IPA beers straight from the lager tanks, and that pretty awesome too :D Cheers man! 🍻
Looked good in the glass. Nice lacing.
yeah, looks are like 1/3 of tasting a beer for me, and this one sure did it. Cheers! 🍻
Baaad packaging
Yeah. Of course that doesn't say anything about the beer, but it's a shame...
Love the New England style. And the breweries were getting better, year after year. Back in like 2013, you would get booze on alot of 8-10 percent IPA's. And about 2018 all the breweries, all stepped up, and like no signs of booze, even at 10%. Things seem to be staying the same, on the innovations, these days. But proud of the American breweries. There are some crazy Americans, that say these beers are best at only days old. I think that is crazy because of the massive hop burn. About the 3 week mark, the hop burn starts to die, and for me that when it time to drink, but i most of the time prefer the 4 week mark. And after 6 weeks the beer starts to fall, some hang on better than other, over time...Cheers
Great Beer. I still have a couple of these old bottles in my cellar. Cheers
Oh, nice man! This one was still ok, but I would recommend to not wait too long ;). Cheers! 🍻
We just got these Belgian Gift Boxes with a glass, and 4 pack of 11.2 oz bottles. Looking forward to trying a bottle next year. No major fan of this beer yet, we will see, in some time.
Well, in French they say "Des gouts et des couleurs, on ne discute pas". Meaning "We don't argue over taste and color", or actually: "to each their own". It's a very good beer, but of course that doesn't mean you have to like it by default ;). Nonetheless, cheers man! 🍻
WOW.....never even thought of a Belgian Advent Calendar. Interested for sure. The problem with Belgian Gift Boxes/Advent Calendars is that, the beers are fresh, and are better, with some age. Would be cool, if they make this pack, with some age on it, especially when it comes to this brewery. If you want, i can ship my mom in a box, in trade for this pack, and or others....Cheers!!!!
Well, this is a pretty nifty one, since there were only 1.500 made and it's completely sold out. Cool idea about the ageing, however, keep in mind that we often make mixed pack. Especially in advent calendars like these we will often mix witbier, tripels, quads, blondes, ... and not everything ages well... But I do encourage experimenting and finding out first hand. I've had some surprises in the past ;). Also, I appreciate the offer, but I already have a mom and she's quite the handful, so thanks but no thanks :D. Cheers Michael! 🍻
So the taste was undetectable? Just like the therapeutic effect of homeopathy...
Exactly
I hope you have consumed, those New England IPA Beers, you got a while back. Those beers do not have a long shelf life, they start dying a few weeks after canning. Some beers can hang on a couple months, if kept cold, but after a few weeks, they start dying.
Unfortunately a lot has happened right after receiving those, so I haven't had the time to properly prepare. However, there are 7 of them, so I'll be doing an "American Week" with them this month, having one each day. I am still very curious! Cheers! 🍻
@@belgianbeerbrothers Cheers!!!
Thanks for the review. We don't see that beer here at my local shops in Northern California. Sounds interesting; always looking for something new to try, then to brew it at home. I share your fondness for a Bolleke. I used to go to Antwerpen 2x/year as I worked for a small Belgian company and my old boss lives in Antwerp. I am looking at 2 DeKoninck Bolleke glasses sitting on my shelf as I type. Great city, great beer. It is one of my favorite styles of beer. Full of flavor but not overly hoppy. Sante!
Ahw, Thanks pv! Yeah, Bolleke is a staple beer. Over 100 years old and we still love it! If you're ever returning to Antwerp, feel free to let me know and we'll have a beer together ;). Cheers man! 🍻
Good, honest review. Keep them coming!
Well, I'm nothing if not honest 😅 Although I noticed that many friends gave this beer a (really) high score on Untappd, so I guess I'll have to give it at least one more try 🤷♂️ Cheers Robert! 🍻 And tell John I said hi :)
cara blijft de klassieker voor de arme student🙌
Zeker wel! En voor de festivalcamping :) Cheers! 🍻
Thanks for another great review. I haven't come across this one yet, but will give it a try when I do. I recently discovered Ypra by Brouwerij Vermeulen in the supermarket in NL. Have you tried it yet ? I would recommend giving it a go. Cheers.
Well, I've never had the original by Vermeulen, but coincidentally I just bought a new one by Omer Vander Ghinste last week. So it's on the list ;) Cheers man! 🍻
Thanks FOR. THAT. MARK HART FROM Denver
You're very welcome Marc. Cheers! 🍻
