For years many debate whether the male seen in the last scene was Luke or Asche where the side event implied that it was Asche with Luke's memory. They even reintroduced Jade's sad face when he saw the returning male, which was memorable.

最初はルークだと思ってたけど実はアッシュで理由や根拠がゲーム内に散りばめられてて何よりあれだけルークに懐いてたミュウが抱き着きに行かないみたいなん見て確かになあと思った

I feel like the most likely reading of the ending is that the person that appears at the end is neither Luke nor Asch. Rather, it's a combination of the two of them. Given Lorelei's respect for them and the power it has over seventh fonons, it could probably give them a second chance at life with little issue, even if they aren't in the same forms they were in before

I still maintain that this is legitimately Luke who's returned, and not just because of the dialogue and visual clues. From a story standpoint, I feel like Luke dying in the end kind of ruins his whole "I won't just die to absolve myself" arc. Kind of defeats the purpose if he was still a martyr after all that.

Man I can’t get over how much I love Luke’s timeskip design. The drip and hairstyle is unmatched.

これ、ひとつ思ったんですが 乖離しかかっていたフォニムが第7番目の譜歌によって再構築された つまり、あのタタル渓谷で歌った第7番目の譜歌によって ローレライを解放しようとして飲み込まれたプラネットストームから解放されて 第七音素が集うタタル渓谷に戻り、 アッシュとルークが1つになった と思います

Just finished this beautiful game, really loved how slowly and well written tear and luke romantic chemistry was done. In my opinions guy and tear always had luke back and stay with him so long as he owned up to his mistakes and used them to make himself a better person. Such an amazing story, that's definitely luke and his soul was placed in asch body by loreali imo.

I played this game multiple times when i was a kid, first played it for the game play, then 2nd for the story and the rest for 100% completion. i don't remember any of it now but i still have a vague memory of a mini game in some island you have to fly to get to that made me play it for hours to get all the prices. i really liked that mini game.

ルークは消えてアッシュは生き返った そしてルークの記憶だけがアッシュに引き継がれた

ゲーム版で一度収録した場面を、アニメで再度同じシーンを演じるのって、声優さんはどんな気持ちなんだろう。 ゲーム版だとミュウがいなかったから、ルークらしき人の正体は少し意見が分かれたけど、アニメ版はミュウが駆け寄らない。つまりそういう事なのか、、、。

Damn, I always had a my eyes on Luke and Tear while I was playing Tales of the world. I guess I was correct. The epilogue is just sad yet nostalgic

The Tales series is amazing. I recently just finished my first playthrough of Tales of the Abyss, and the ending made me cry. I'd say it's at par with the Final Fantasy series. Most of the entries in Final Fantasy had memorable endings.

When I finished this game way back I was hoping a sequel like tales of destiny 2.. so many memories.. tales games are the best

It's definitely Luke. His physical body faded away, but his soul entered Asch's body since he has been dead for a while and his soul gone for sure. Asch's hand twitching could mean that Luke's would was being transferred. That, the mention of the promise he made to Tear (people say he made a promise to Natalia, but he clearly said that to Tear and her reaction confirms it). And look how he has his sword on his back. That's exactly how Luke carries his.

I hate to say this I am a fan of Abyss but, the animation "in-game" is different than the Anime version. In-game animation is waaaaaaay much better than this version the art is consistent and clean the strokes is perfect the face is perfect the "animation" is perfect. The Anime version looks a lot like those Naruto Shippuden fillers which you love and hate

Probably a controversial opinion but in my opinion the animation absolutely butchered the ending to the game when compared to the game

I believe that if it was luke in ashe's body the game and anime would've made it 100% clear as it's mostly what everyone wants. The open ending part is just here to protect people's feelings from the truth
