Tight Lines & Screaming Reels
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 ก.ค. 2020
I grew up in a fly fishing family who said “Tight lines” instead of goodbye each other. As a kid I fished all over the UK and was casting a fly by the 8 years old.
Then came the teenage years and fishing was swiftly forgotten for a quick couple of decades.
After a long hiatus a returned to fly fishing about 2014 and have been relearning how to game fish ever since.
I’m still search for my first wild salmon and will keep fishing until I find one.
Until salmon fishing season starts you can find me fly fishing on still waters and rivers around the UK.
I’m no expert but I love fly fishing and filming so please let me know if you see me doing anything wrong as, like everyone, I’m still learning how to be a better fly fisherman every day.

That's Not A Trout!?! : Stillwater Fly Fishing Bewl Water Kent UK
Embarking on a fly fishing adventure at a new location can be daunting, but it's a breeze when accompanied by the expert guidance of Big C, Uncle Wee A, and my Mammy. Their insight is invaluable in uncovering the prime spots.
Today's excursion took us to the shores of Bewl Water in Kent, a vast still water renowned for its abundant fly fishing opportunities along the bank. Additionally, Bewl offers a variety of fishing methods from boats, catering to all anglers preferences.
Targeting the elusive trout, I was aware of Bewl's reputation for regularly stocking fresh trout. However, the day took an unexpected turn when I reeled in a species unfamiliar to me, one that even required my Mumma's expertise to identify!
Check out the Bewl Water website: [Bewl Water Fishing](www.bewlwater.co.uk/activities/fishing/).
As someone who still considers themselves a novice in the world of fly fishing, I'm eager for any tips or corrections you might have. Please feel free to share your advice in the comments.

Trout Fishing Using Only ONE Dry Fly : Stillwater Fly Fishing Albury Estate Weston Lakes Surrey UK
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
The reverse Parachute is a killer dry fly and might be the only fly you need when fly fishing for trout. Today i tested that theory by only using this dry fly while fishing for trout at the beautiful Albury Estate Weston Lakes in Albury, Surrey UK. Its a fantastic venue with gin clear chalk stream fed still waters with a number of still waters and rivers to try your luck at. Check out the Albur...

Im 100% a vestie for my trout fishing :)
Nice to meet a fellow Vestie 😁
Bewl is where I started fly fishing back in the early 1980s and had a few reasonable days. Not been back since so can't make any comment on how it is now.
It’s well worth a trip back there. Really nice venue
Great video! Seems like there are a few older bitter anglers with archaic views on what fisheries were like decades ago. Most fisheries have had to adapt to changing times and wouldn’t be here today if they stayed as fly only.
I agree, we’ve seen too many venues close over the last year. Also Bewl is so big it feels like there is space for everyone to fish all methods and never both each other. Im defo going back for another try this summer.
It was a great place and my local but now I drive to Rutland or Graftham ,
Those are both a bit of mission for me but they are both on my list. I’ll have to try and get up to those stillwaters this year. Thanks for the suggestion James
Don’t bother with this water ; totally ruined with any method fishing ;
A few of the people I was with said that it used to be a great trout fishery before any meathod was introduced. Nice that it’s fly only from the bank and I enjoyed fishing a massive Stillwater for a change.
@@TightlinesandscreamingreelsIt wouldn't exist as a fishery had it not moved to allowing any method from the boat. There is still some top trout fishing to be had at Bewl from the bank with the fly rod, I've had 14 out in 2 visits this season already and lost lots too. It isn't an easy water, it rewards patience and mobility and naturally isn't worth fishing from the bank in the hot summer months for obvious reasons. We are already seeing other trout waters in the UK shut their doors because they won't adapt. Bewl has and as a local I am glad for it. There is more than enough bank to escape from the hustle of the main boat areas if you are so offended by any method anglers whose cash is allowing thousands of trout to be stocked in the reservoir!
@@TheDStee I totally agree. It’s such a big Stillwater with loads of variety. We were just talking about arrange another trip there now the season has started again. Maybe see you there in a few months.
@@TightlinesandscreamingreelsApril is a great month to be there! Good luck :)
@@TheDStee thanks for the tip Dan. Thats next months trip sorted then 😁
My local place - have you shard the link with Cameron Craigs?
I sent a link to the Albury Facebook page but not sure if it went to Cameron Craigs specifically. Such a lovely venue, I should go back and do another video at Vale End soon!
Stop wasting your time fishing for trout at Bewl you will be very lucky to catch a trout even from a boat it’s far from the fishery it used to be
We saw a lot of trout moving and there was a recent stock of trout so I think it was just one of those days. Beautiful venue, I’m definitely going to give it another try and see if I can tempt a trout next time 😃 Have you got any places you would suggest to fish for trout for my next adventure?
Pike city last time I went there
@@davevincent5453 was that off the bank or from a boat?
Clearly not a good fisherman. As it’s been great there so far!
@@STAJAR96 I I would suggest you read the reports before insulting my competence ask Bewl water staff how many fly anglers they have lost over the last 10years I and hundreds like me wouldn’t waist there money but seeing as your obviously so talented you carry on and enjoy your fishig
That’s one noisy reel lol
I’ll admit that one of the great things about the Sharpes reels is that not only do they have a reversible drag system but you can also make them silent. However I really like to hear my reels scream!
Was it a boot? Definitely too small to be a shopping trolley
Ha ha ha! That fish fought like a shopping trolly!
We meet again 😂😂
😂😂😂
Great video We went last summer and walked around 4 miles around the water looking for fish. we had a great day, but it was a hot summer day and no fish. Just found your channel and look forward to future content...
It’s a big old place isn’t it, when I first decided to take a look I was floored at how huge it is and that I didn’t even know it was there even though I was driving past it every week. It definitely deserves more of an explore, think I’ll head back there later in the year. I’m really glad you like the videos, as you know they take an age to put together so it’s awesome to hear that they are hitting the mark. I’m already subbed to your channel. Looking forward to the next upload. Tightlines my Wookiee friend
Just discovered your channel man keep up the strength with bending rods and screaming reels keep it up buddy!
Thanks very much that’s really kind. I’m trying to get as many videos out as possible. I really appreciate the kind words! More videos to come in the next month or so!
Great video again mate. I went round in a boat with my boy in September time. Didn't have any luck. But there are some beautiful spots there. Il probably go back in the spring.
Thanks mate, we didn’t have great amount of success but we only really fished one bay. I had the two touches that are in the video but we saw a lot moving. I’m looking forward to heading back there are trying either the boat or another spot. Glad you liked the video! Really appreciate it.
Dishwasher liquid in an eye dropper, so you can put a drop on your fingers to degrees your tippet. A must!!!!!!
Someone else mentioned this to me. I’ve never heard about it until then. Must give this a try but I like the idea of putting it in an eye dropper, nice and compact. Thanks for the tip Craig.
Hi Jay, I’ve just found your channel and of course subscribed, I love the presentation and style of your videos…the sound track is very relaxing. Tight lines.🎣🎣
Thanks so much Grandpa Chris! I’ve tried to create slightly different videos for the ones I see and glad you enjoyed it and the vibe of the music. I just subbed to your channel too! Great to be connected and thanks a bunch for the follow.
great video
Thanks very much !
Why the music? I gave up watching because of the music. When I fish I just want the natural silence
grumpy pants the music is relaxing
Sorry you dont like music on your fishing videos, i thought it was nice and relaxing and means you dont have to hear me breathing the whole time 😂😂😂😂 either way thanks for your comment and thanks for watching (a little bit) of the video
Any chance of a bit of commentary what fly you're using what rig what rod and reel etc also how to obtain a day pass to fish where to park etc
Thanks for this note Dai, ive been adding this at the beginning of my more recent videos after your suggestion. Thanks very much for the tip, i might even start thinking about doing some voice over while im fishing but i tend to not say much and just enjoy the water. Thanks again for the suggestion, i really appreciate it.
What a wonderful sound, the true sound of fly fishing…the screaming reel. Music to my ears. Thank you & tight lines. Derick.
Thanks Derick! It’s one of the things I LOVE about the old sharpes reels, they sounds brilliant! You can set them to be silent but that would be a waste if you ask me! Cheers for watching
My setup is so similar. I need more woolly buggers in my box. I also keep a small bottle of fairy liquid to help the line cut through the water. That was a tip a saw on TA Fishing.
Really? Just normal fairy liquid? Surely that froths up in the water? I’m totally intrigued!!! And you are right. I do need more woolly buggers! Back to the fly shop it is 😄
@Tightlinesandscreamingreels I've never actually needed the fairy liquid before. But apparently it helps if there is scum on the surface of the water. I also keep a small bandage in my vest incase the worst should happen!
@@GLNZFishing I agree on the first aid kits, I’m going to put together another video about the extras that I take with me which will include drones and GoPros and all the camera jazz but also my backup small bag that stays in the car or fishing hut with things like first air kit and spare pair of glasses (and loads and loads of batteries!)
Looks like a fresh skemania steelhead
I’m not sure that we get those in Wales, UK. But it did feel like something from the salmon family
@@Tightlinesandscreamingreels ahh Wales yea probably not they are a US Pacific Northwest and Great lakes Strain of steelhead. Its definitly in the salmoniod family though
@@thomasjefferson4662 so can I say I’ve caught my first salmon!!!! (I’m not sure this counts)
@@Tightlinesandscreamingreels yep. So your Welsh? Im sure you are aware that the Welsh Language is very similar to anceint Hebrew! Funny that I didnt learn that till about a year ago at age 38. Kinda proves that the lost 10 tribes went to Europe. The fake ones running the show will never allow that truth to go mainstream.
Nice to see you put your rods in first....would be a right shitter if you drove all the way there to find you had left them at home 😉 Nice little edit though.
Ha ha. I literally did that this week!!!! From now on rods first and then pack everything else!!!!
@Tightlinesandscreamingreels ha yeah buddy I'm just teasing. I came from your reddit post. Channel looks good some. Nice cuts and good shots. Looking forward to seeing how it grows
@@thebigeasy87 I thought that was a massive coincidence 😂😂 thanks for the kind words buddy. Still early days but enjoying filming some of my fishing journey. Thanks for the sub! See you in reddit 😍
What rod you using
Sharpes of Aberdeen ‘Gordon 2’ 5 weight. About 20 years old but I’ve found a lot that have barely been used and still feel like they are brand new
@@TightlinesandscreamingreelsHad a mark 1 5# 9’ years ago love another
I see them come up a lot on eBay. I had a few mark ones but I love the wood finish on the handle of the Gordon 2’s. Basically the same rod but it looks pretty 😋
Love the video buddy top stuff! I live near Guildford and looking to try albury soon. Only been living in surrey since January so need to get out trying the local trout lakes, you been to anymore in surrey worth a mention? Appreciated
@@scottwoods6097 well I can’t recommend Albury enough, its beautiful and Weston Lakes and Vale End are both great in their own right. The other places I’ve tried are a bit far away like Brick Farm Lakes or Bewl Water (video being edited as we speak). Frensham is also really nice! Drop me a line if you are heading towards any of those and I’ll come with and make a wee video! Hope you are enjoying Surrey.
I'm loving the sound of that reel.. Sounds identical to my vintage Hardy Marquis one 👍
Does it?!? I’ve always thought the Sharpes reels looked similar to Marquis. Love the sound from a vintage reel!
@@Tightlinesandscreamingreels I've got a video where I was fishing with the marquis on a 4 weight rod.. Fun on a #4 weight It's titled.. Have a watch and a listen and see what you think
@Caithnessflyfisher sweet, I’ll check that out now for the comparison!
👿🐟🎣
We’re gonna need a bigger boat!
Great show. Love the locations. Cant belive the catch at..
Thanks Rupert. Yes those fish at the end of the video were real runners weren’t they.
Get your fish out for the lads!
Ha ha. I try! Some days are more successful than others.
Awesome video mate!
Thanks buddy, it was great to get back to mid wales and try my hand at the Severn again
You didn't loose that $2k rod did you?
I managed to catch up with it thankfully but it was nearly a complete disaster
He fell over! 😂
He most certainly did 😂😂😂😂
Beautiful! 👌🐟
It’s an incredible landscape
Amazing location. Looks peaceful 😊❤
It really is!
