Remembering the catch Venkat catching John Edrich , venkat had to squat veryically at instant as the catch was close to his ankle but he grabbed it with one hand . Another catch worth mentioning was the catch of Brain Lukhurst slash shot that came to venkat , he had fingers like octopus tentacles . That was such a great catch , media did not highlight much . This was at The Oval where India won against England 1971. Also the ball that clean bowled Alan Knott ( England) 1971 at Old Trafford is still fresh as if it happened yesterday . Thanks for sharing.

Cricket Fraternity owes big thanks to folks like Venkat. He is one of the rare students of the game who gave more back to the game than most cricketers. As a player he was a fantastic slip and short leg fielder in an era when Indian fielding was no less than shoddy barring few in close-in fielders. As a bowler he was a fine exponent of spin bowling but would not find regular place in the team as one of 4 had to take the brunt and it was Venkat for most part. One of his last dismissals in test cricket was that of Kim Hughes of Australia at Chepauk, it could be one of the all time great deliveries ever bowled ... something akin to Warne's delivery of the century. I recommend folk to watch that if you can find it in TH-cam. He also captained India Test team for one test against WI in 1976 as Pataudi missed Delhi Test. Famous test where Viv scored his maidens massive 192 ( was caught at slips when 12 of Venky but wasn't given out, rest is history) Sadly he was dropped the vey next test and such things can happen only in Indian Cricket. His bowling action was picture perfect. Fantastic captain, way he handled limited TN bowling to win in Deodhar Trophy in Delhi... perhaps that prompted selectors to make him captain for the world cup. I wish him all the very best and big thanks for his contributions Cricket. Raman it is nice of you bring Venky story, when the rest of the world seems to have forgotten a legend.👒
