This video on the Banipal Magazine Channel presents the annual "Celebration of Arabic Literary Translation" - with the 2023 Annual Lecture and the Winner of the 2023 Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation at the SOAS Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre, London on 8 February 2024. The evening was hosted by the SOAS Centre for Translation Studies and the SOAS Centre for Cultural, Literary and Postcolonial Studies and the Banipal Trust for Arab Literature. SOAS Director Prof Adam Habib opened the evening. Banipal Trust chair Prof Paul Starkey introduced the poet and translator Khaled Mattawa who gave his lecture on "Stations of Translation: Power, Eros, and Betrayal". This is followed by Chair of Judges Ros Schwartz in conversation with Luke Leafgren, winner of the 2023 Prize. SOAS Prof Wen-chin Ouyang moderated the Q&A.
