N episode 2
In this episode, my N application plan for spring, using slurry and N fertiliser to achieve optimal growth and pasture quality in a conventional spring calving dairy farming system in Ireland. How it differs from NZ and why growing more grass isn't always good.

Caulston Farm Devon
มุมมอง 3.8K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
This week I visit Adam and Holly at Caulston Farm, right on the coast in South Devon. Around 1000 acres milking 550 to 600 cows in an organic system, using herbal leys, all young stock on farm. They are a new AHDB Strategic Dairy Farm, I'm doing this initial visit to give recommendations and will be part of a later AHDB SDF open day on the farm.

I caught up with Kevin and Jim who are milking 520 cows on 210 hectares in South Wexford, a couple of driven, hardworking guys who like a laugh. On camera Kevin does most of the talking but they are very much working together to get the farm performing to potential whilst analysing opportunity to cut back on chemical N use, improve soil health and look at using more variety in reseeds.

    Hi Graise consultancy, U can talk the talk, U R going back 50 years, to FISONS at North Wyke farm, A LITTLE AN OFTEN , 25-5-5 or 27 -5-5, no mention of the fact that P an K applied in spring INCREASES production of grass over just applying straight Nitrogen. I find U interesting but my grazing system is way ahead of yours and PRG varieties have heading dates which vary plus or minus 2 days, not to its growth height. If U bought a farm in N Z in 2021 why didnt u stay there ? Why am i ahead of U, simply i have 60 years of knowledge of growing grass in DEVON, a grassland an forage crop agronomist.

    The history of farming in the western world is ever bigger farms, fewer of them, fewer children locally, little or no community activities. CB radios came from this background in the Usa and on the scale up madness goes.

    • @GraiseConsultancy
      @GraiseConsultancy หลายเดือนก่อน

      @michaeloconnor9809 quite the opposite actually, whereas until now this farm has employed only one person, it will now employ at least 4, dairy conversion has a massively positive impact on rural communities both socially and economically and this is grass fed, quality food being produced

    Carbon footprint is an individual blame game, a load of bollocks can’t understand why you still swallow it. I’ll let you into a secret it’s all tied onto agenda 20/30 which I’m sure you’ve heard about. You know the secret meetings your government has in Davos every year with the WEF which the media keep very quiet about? Well they’re planning on getting rid of farms using the climate farce, wake up and smell the roses FFS.

    No need to cringe at other grasses. If you pick the right varieties, you’ll take the mixed species leys to another level. I have cocksfoot and tall fescue in my mixtures, out growing PRG and cows still doing 1.4kg MS late lactation. The grasses and legumes are the bread and butter, the herbs are useful but peripheral. Yarrow is a useful addition as it will be invisible some years then produce well in a dry year.

    In the dry east of England, birdsfoot trefoil is one of my most persistent components because drought checks its competition. I was surprised to see it growing well on the Mullet when I visited Ireland. Growing on the dunes and verges however.
