Hollywood Western Wardrobe Hollywood Cut vs Cowboy Cut

Hollywood Western Wardrobe Hollywood Cut vs Cowboy Cut
Sort of bittersweet for me to watch. I found one very similar at a gun show a decade or so back. I think the guy wanted $125 for it. Same deal it was still full length. I almost bought it with plans to cut it down like you did. I talked my self out of it. Still regret it. However If I had taken it home and it blew up I would have regretted that more I guess. As far as everyone complaining about people cutting the old guns down, it will continue until the price of the full length originals goes up or the price of replicas comes down. Currently if you want exposed hammers it is much cheaper to buy an old one and cut it down.
Man, you should have bought that shotgun. No one wants these shotguns with a barrel that will reach across the road........... ;)
It looks like an 1878 Thunderer?
It is the 1877 Lightning (.38)
If you fire it, only use 2 1/2" shells. Unless someone had the chambers lengthened, that gun has 2 5/8" chambers. So, you won't want to fire 2 3/4" loads.
That is one prime star-gazer of a revolver!
The 1877 lock work was designed not to infringe on any existing patents, since Colt did not want to pay royalties. The Chamlot-Delvigne was a very rugged, robust and surprisingly simple double/single action design, among others, of era, that of course would require royalties. Colt themselves ACTIVELY pursued violations of their patents so obviously they'd get their own comeback if caught infringing on others. The resultant design was needlessly complex, fragile and prone to breakage, like yours. On another note, you refer to 'copies'. In early half of 20th century, a double action 'Colt-ish' revolver in .38 Special produced in Belgium, resembling the 1877, but with an 1873 grip. These were of moderate quality and occasionally can be found at gunshows, auctions, etc. Unlike the Colt, an appropriate gunsmith can keep them working. I have seen some 'customized' versions where a faux bird's head grip reminiscent of the 1877 used by some re-enactors.
@@doraran2138 My plan is to get this one fully operational by using some of the later parts as I was told these parts were improved upon as the years went by. Even when this pistol is put back together the way I want it and it fully functional it will still just sit as a display piece in my studio 🤠
What’s the point of owning a real gun if it doesn’t fire?
@@johnl1677 The point is to own one of these beauties and to make it fire/operate again 😉
Where would he hold his blade?
@@ericaragon6482 The photo/screen capture I have shows it clipped into the top of his pants
You are mistaken about Doc not firing his 1877 during the film. He fires it 5 times when Ike opens up from the photo studio window and the final 6th round when he shoots the fellow at the end.
You are correct Sir, as I forgot about Doc shooting at Ike
Awesome video. Just looking at that getup makes me want to slap on some spurs, put on my Hondo bandana and hit the saddle!!!
That is Awesome Pilgrim!!😮😃🤠❤💪🏜🐎😁😉👍
@@leonproudlock2258 Thank You 😊
You’re doing a good job with your channel. Keep up the good work! Good luck with the new studio.
@@Sharpbevel Thank You 😊
the birds head grip is the most unique part of the gun!👍
Where is the vest from?
It is a Wah Maker vest
At the OK Coral they gave the deadliest gun to the deadliest shooter
I dont know why someone has not made a modern version of this using modern double action technology
I have thought the exact same thing :)
@@HollywoodWesternWardrobe a modern one of these with smith and wesson or ruger double action insides would be awesome
@@stewartmcpherson5943 I just don’t understand why Colt doesn’t release it with all new superior parts in it and call it the rebirth????
@@HollywoodWesternWardrobe that would be so awesome
They do make a very similar one, but is a single action. I'm very happy with it. The real ones broke very easily.😂
Kolser makes a non-firing replica in several finishes. It is the single action version rather than the double action. They make it in several different grip/finish combinations. I bought the Pearl grip/Nickle finish, but I should have got the Ivory grip instead. I wasn't real impressed with the nickle finish on mine, but if you don't look too close, or keep it in your waistcoat pocket, it looks ok. Ultimately, I will wind up buying a Uberti, I think. That way, I can actually shoot it! Thanks for the video. :)
I actually checked into the Kolser pistol, however the single action turned me off. Since everyone carries real guns out in Tombstone, I figured I might as well too :)
Yeah... one in SA only turns me off.. it is sorta like a bolt action Garand to me.
I would love to have a 1877 Colt. For such a fragile revolver it was used by a lot of gunfighters.
@@PhillipFelix-kw3zi From what I have read the early models like mine had problems, but the later models didn’t as they fixed there mistakes as time went on. Of course I had to by the 1877 version 😆

YOU NEED TO WRITE A SCRIPT AND READ IT B-4 AND WHILE YOU 'RE TRYING' TO TALK !
Correct, it is a good and interesting subject so some rehearsal would not go amiss. This is an observation that many authors could address, numerous times verbals are compromised by poor presentation, some early work could make a big difference.👍
Im ready to see the boots you ordered
Peter Sherayko's book, "Tombstone The Guns and Gear" shows a different hilt and guard design.
@@DavidBardt That is because the knife shown in the book is NOT the knife used in the movie 😉
Love your channel, especially thing's about Doc. Did the knife ever get sold? Thanks 🐎
@@ericaragon6482 Thank You so much 😊 I still have the knife 😉
I have Grandpa's 12 double barrel that is exactly like yours except his still has the 30 inch barrel. His is labeled as being made by the American Gun Company which is the same as the Crescent.
Do u know how happy I will be if I had this
@@Mr.Autism315 They are for sale 🤠
Yea but the problem is that I’m not from America and I’m 14
You found an original double barrel from the 1800s and molested it, cuttin barrels down and other stuff..... Do you know how hard it is to find 30 to 32 inch double barrels rhese days? Ive been lookin for a well kept, functional double barrel for years. Kinda hurts man, great lookin old girl but you could of definitely just bought a new made 1878 from, cimarron or pietta and did a patina job and other things to make it look the part but made of modern metals....
@@tylertapp131 I am definitely a guy who doesn’t care about originality as I go for what I want. I went for this shotgun because it looks like the one Val used, as the new coach guns they make today don’t look right. These shotguns were plentiful on Gun Broker when I bought mine.
@@HollywoodWesternWardrobe original length barrel shotguns from the 40s and back are harder and harder to find, for the money you probably spent you could of got a new production one and they do make some that look Identical to original that you could of put a patina on and made it look more original and it has all new parts, so you dont end up destroying an original. But since you dont care, I guess it dont matter, dont be surprised though if you even actually shoot it, that it has the possibility to grenade on you from the metals not bein up to par.
@@tylertapp131I paid $100 for this shotgun (not even a year ago). The only shooting it will ever do is low power blanks 🤠
You made a bubba Fudd gun WTF? Should have used a replica to bugger up…
@@unclecordite9208 To each their own I always say 😉
This is a very nice shotgun you have there. I believe it was made after 1930 when H&D Folsom Arms Co. purchased Crescent Firearms in 1929.
@@dantheman6559 Thank You 🙂
Wyatt carried a 10 gauge, 22 in barrell.
😮, tanks,
Right on Brother! Great stuff as always.
Hi, doc holiday have shotgun meteor 10 gauge? All right?😮
It's simply a hammer thong or hammer loop. It sounds funny, but that's what it was called. I still do.
I am a proud owner of your Wyatt Earp wild rag (as well as the Doc Holliday vendetta scarf) and also have a Hondo hat from Erik that I purchased several years ago; you might like to know that I'm wearing the Wyatt scarf as well as the Hondo hat in my performance of "Professor Marvel" for "The Wizard of Oz" at La Comedia dinner Theater! The scarf is a very comfortable silk, and, in spite of the hot conditions under the stage lights, the colors don't run! Erik's hat has that authentic trail-ridden look and feel, and really gives a nice depth of reality to the part I am so fortunate to portray. Thanks for providing these videos, Doc!!
@@edmundiverson6377 Thank You for the more than kind words and Thank You being a customer of ours 🤠 You can’t go wrong with Eric’s hats that’s for sure 😁 Break a Leg in your performance 😎
That hat has the perfect authentic look! I don't know a lot about hats but I notice all the hats I run into in the western wear store look alike and nothing like classic western movie hats. The crowns are always too short.(4 inches or less) the old hats all had more material in the crown and some were shaped tall and others shorter like the one you have but you can see the material is there just folded in more to finish with a shorter crown.
@@TUCOtheratt You are correct Sir 🤠 “MOST” store bought hats just don’t have the look, and they aren’t built like hats back in the good ole days. Gotta say I love your videos and I am a huge fan, so thank you for commenting on my little video 🙂
Rio Bravo is my favorite John Wayne movie to, mostly because of Ricky and Dean singing. I was thinking that was last movie John wore that hat...
@@job38four10 I love those two singing together, in fact I bought the Ricky Nelson boxed CD set just so I could have that song with the both of them singing it (plus I’m a huge Rick Nelson fan as well as a Dean Martin one) 🤠 You are correct about Rio Bravo being the last movie the hat was in, but Duke did wear it (behind the scenes) while making the movie The Alamo 😎

@@leandogproductions2014 I’m just speaking the truth brother 🤠
Awesome 12 gauge double barrel.
Thank You JD 🤠
I have an old Lefever, the checkering is similar. I would have thought a Greener would be appropriate. I know the Duke referenced one in a couple movies. Don't you just love the 8 ga. in Appaloosa ? I wonder what shotgun was really carried at the OK corral.
$275.00 for shipping from Mexico??? Got a couple of hundred pairs coming? Since you have spurs, you know how much they weigh and it doesn't cost that much. Now maybe I misunderstood, Spurs & Shipping (given that they are custom spurs, well ok, but not for the shipping alone). I like Ariat boots, they are well made in China. I don't think of China when I think cowboy boots or anything western. Tony Lama, Dan Post, some Justins, Boulet (from Canada) all good boots, have had all of these brands and they all hold up really well. Good Solid Video!!
I’m sorry, the $275 is the Spurs and Shipping combined. Yes, that would be a crazy price for just shipping alone 😅 I have zero complaints with the Arait boots as I have had these for years and wear them quite often. I have had Justin and Dan Post boots as well and have enjoyed both of them as well. It seems I have a thing for boots, jackets and Cowboy hats 😆
@@HollywoodWesternWardrobe I understand that. I have a thing for boots, jeans and cowboy hats. Love wearing my cowboy boots and my cavalry boots! Really enjoyed the reenacting I used to do when I lived in CA. I'm really partial to tall boots, coming up to my knees.
Beautiful shotgun!!
@@samwyckoff6216 Thank You my friend 🤠
In the film didn't doc carry the birds head pistol on his left for right hand cross draw and the other opposite?
