REDD FOREVER!
I'm amazed at how many folks have dissed BG for his role on this. He was the lead singer and deferred to two of the great guitar players out there who were more in their element. I actually enjoyed watching my cousin Billy in a supportive role. He was perfect, IMO.
Billy is the least talented person on the stage and if you noticed there is a drummer up there😁
Nope. BP has no idea what's going on. And besides that ' BG wrote this song and that's how it's played. The drummer is from the band ' chop stiXX and can play anything just like RV.
as a Telecaster player in bands for 40 years THIS made me stop and stare- love all three guitar players, all have their own style, this is a very cool video! TY
I prefer Luther.
The Fast Lane was my second home for a bunch of years.
Poor Billy, fingers and voice just don’t work anymore
That's some rock n roll 👌
“Yea i just came in for dinner tonight”
Fullerton, California. What's unique about Deke is he's a "Storyteller" in between songs.
Sounds like most of them don't know the song.
Dude in the neck brace was like “I’m not missing this jam for ANYTHING!”
what is 2nd song?
cool cool cool!! Dave's still got it going on.
one cool black leather rebel!!
The best!Too bad Stevie Ray wasn't with them.
Nice sentiment, but I don't think SRV would have been first call for this gig!
So Deke DID make it Barnegat that evening! He had to cancel that afternoon's Bordentown appearance due to vehicle trouble!.
soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesoooooooooooooome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS YOUR BRAINS JUST OFF OF DRUGS. :^)
Just awesome. It's great to see videos like this. It reminds you that some of these guys just play music for the love of it.
Oh, yeah. These guys made bank on this gig. Continental holds tens of people. Dammit-Austin is so cool in spots.
Just Fantastic!!
I have listened to Billy Gibbons forevever thought he was a better guitar player than that. Redd and Brad both kicked his tail.
Redd is legendary, but this is his comfort zone. In BG's defense, his roots are in blues... back before Bill Hamm steered ZZ into rock stardom, they were a "little ole blues band from Tejas". I heard them at a club in Opelousas, LA promoting their 1st album... 71 as I recall, and they mostly played pure, delta blues - albeit electrified. I remember thinking - for a three piece band - they produced a huge amount of music. Their original tagline said, "ZZ Top. He bear down on the meat... he ease off on the tater salad." Put "Pearly" in his hands, lay down a slow, three chord blues bed and stand back. My money says he'll show you what bearin' down on the meat really means. ;)
This isn't really his element let's be honest. Put Brad Paisley of a slow dirty blues and you'd be saying the same thing I'm sure
He is showing respect.
Love this...thanks for posting
I can't believe Billy Gibbons got a chance to play with Redd ! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !! Redd is the best ...
redd always knows where to go. my hero.
Earl also played with Buck Owens but for Pete's sake don't ask him about it!
Also on stage were Gary Claxton (R.I.P.) on acoustic guitar and vocals, Kevin Smith on upright bass and Johnny Cash's old piano pounder Earl Poole Ball.
I can look this up --- late 2007, early 2008 maybe? (duh - now I see you have the date on it -- Dec 9 2007) That's my sweet husband Mark Hays on the drums! I was there and witnessed it. It was a magical night at the Continental Club, for sure. Brady Paisley did nothing but play guitar like crazy. He never took the spotlight or brought attention to himself at all. He loves Redd.
+Robert Hewett If you live in Austin, Redd is an easy guy to get to converse with. Really sweet. I hope you get to play with him someday. I can't believe this video is almost 8 years old.
+Janice Williams Hi Janice, I see yours is an older post but I felt I had to add to the thread. I've watched a number of videos of Redd and Brad playing together and you're right, there's deep love. Redd and I were both mentored by a great picker named Big George Moody. When Redd and George would play together Redd used to watch, listen and respond to George in the same way Brad does with him. It's a joy to watch musical love shared.
are there more videos of this night??
He’s a very sold drummer. What a night to be there!
To have been a fly in the wall for this...MAN! Thank you for posting this video. Please tell me you have more!
when was this?
2007......... sorry for the "timely response" Happy Holidays
