Dissecting The 3 Levels of Religious Diversity
มุมมอง 339 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
"World Religious Ecumenism is the acceptance of the plurality of religions as God's will and as God's gift. It is a value judgment that plurality of religions is a good thing: plurality of religions is seen as the appropriate expression of human creativity and freedom animated by God's grace, by God's Spirit. People who are "ecumenically minded" rejoice in the diversity of religions. They see s...

The End of All Religious Debates: Non-Duality
มุมมอง 1.2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
When we adopt a non-dualistic outlook, we know that when we rob our neighbor, we rob ourselves. When we hurt our neighbor, we hurt ourselves, when we pollute the earth, we pollute ourselves. This is the Golden Rule, treat others as you want to be treated. But Non-dualism takes it a step further, and removes the barrier between you and the other, you and the neighbor.

    Thanks a lot for sharing your insights. Don't you think you been a pluralist has to disagree with both exclusivits and inclusivits. Similarly the disagree with you. You find the positions weird they might find your positions weird. If you are criticizing them because the force their worldview even you imagine of a world where your worldview of pluralism is dominant. That's just the way it works. Bina pluralist doesn't make you virtuous it's very similar to vegetarians claiming to be non violent. Thanks

    Thank you for the video. I believe there are pluralists in every religion. However, if you read history, many religions in the subcontinent were not truly pluralistic, as seen in the Vaishnavite vs Shaivite rivalry. After the colonial experience, reformists in the subcontinent started incorporating pluralist ideas, especially for Western audiences. I am not a pluralist; I believe the truth is with God. I might be wrong in my beliefs about Islam, but based on the knowledge I have accumulated, I believe I am on the right path. However, I also believe you can definitely reach God outside of Islam. Islam is not the only way to understand the truth. I wish you good luck on your path. Please keep sharing this knowledge. Thank you.

    You're a very down to earth and engaging speaker. Great video. This help put things in an approachable and feasible perspective. Also, could you maybe clarify what exactly you meant by "being okay with ourselves"? Is that just in reference to laying the foundations of the practice or is that meaning some other personal work that needs to be done?

      These days man close their eyes and feel uncomfortable, disordered. Then they open their eyes and seek something from the world. It must be reversed. Close our eyes and feel peace, and when we open our eyes, find a way to serve the world. This was a paraphrased sentiment from a Swami, I cannot remember the specifics. The condition of our internal is the bedrock of our waking life.

    This is very basic, maybe you have not interacted with any atheists at all, because not all atheists claim "there is no God" but know there are different spectrum of atheism and dofferent labels, for example there are "agnostic atheist" which i think majority of us are, basically the position is, there is no good evidence for god, but i dont know for certain there isn't. There are also different definitions of "God": theistic, deistic, and pantheistic. I think most atheists do not believe in God in the THEISTIC SENSE like albert einstein.

    To address the argument that morality is purely subjective, contingent on human existence, and that without humans or sentient life, concepts of good and evil would cease to exist, one might refine the Christian perspective as follows: This stance challenges the non-duality argument by underscoring that the objective basis for moral values transcends human perception, anchored in the immutable character of a transcendent, personal God. The assertion that morality disappears in the absence of life misunderstands the nature of moral laws as reflections of this divine nature, rather than mere social constructs. By analogy, just as physical laws like gravity exist independently of human recognition, moral laws exist as part of the fabric of reality, grounded in God’s existence and character. The Christian rebuttal to the notion of morality’s subjectivity and the contingency on sentient life emphasizes that moral truths are not predicated on human experience but on the eternal, unchanging nature of God. Thus, good and evil retain their objective reality and distinction, irrespective of human awareness, reaffirming the necessity of distinguishing between them within a coherent, objective moral order. This perspective challenges the relativistic view by asserting that moral values, much like the laws of logic and mathematics, hold true universally and are discoverable through engagement with the divine essence that underpins reality, offering a robust framework for understanding moral obligations and human dignity beyond mere social consensus.

    • @1bertoncelj
      @1bertoncelj หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no morality that doesnt directly concern humans in some way ... so just acording to that morality does disappear when there are no humans. There is nothing and noone that morality can be applied to.

    • @wpridgen4853
      @wpridgen4853 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the "law" of morality is sewn into the fabric of reality in the same manner as the Law of Gravity, then it will be impossible to break the law of morality in the same way that it is impossible to break the Law of Gravity. If this is the case, then it is impossible to act in an immoral manner because we are bound to act within the means dictated by the Laws set up in the Nature of The Universe. It would be possible to manipulate morality, but we could never break morality.

    What is your definition of 'non-duality?"

  • @MusingsFromTheJohn00
    @MusingsFromTheJohn00 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Christopher, I am not sure I understand how you are defining "Duality" and "Non-Duality" in this discussion. Are you talking about dualism in there being a God of light/good and a God of dark/evil? Are you talking about dualism spiritual/mind and material/body? It feels to me like you are defining non-dualism as dualism, except you are mixing completely different definitions of dualism which do not mix. Next point, you do not understand what an Atheist is. This is very clear from what you are saying. An Atheist is anyone who does not believe any Deity exists outside the imagination of people. That is the only thing that defines an Atheist. There are Atheist Buddhists, Atheist spiritualists, Atheist Capitalists, Atheist Communists, etc., etc., etc. The variety of beliefs within Atheists is huge, because the only thing required to be an atheist is to "Not Believe In Any Deity". Many Atheists are open to believing in a Deity if someone will provide to them an argument which will convince them some Deity exists. You, Christopher, are virtually certain to be a partial Atheist, because it is exceedingly probable that you do not believe in the vast majority of Deities other people have believed in throughout human history. Next point is that religion is a person's worldview and is about a person developing their worldview for how the world works, why it works, how they should behave in that world, etc. Organized religions are formed when a group agrees upon some common worldviews. People began to try and differentiate between a religious worldview and a real worldview over the issue of saying "since my worldview is real, it is not religious, but since your worldview is not real, it is a religion". The thing is, each person or group of people who agree upon a common worldview they believe is real think that, well, THEIR WORLDVIEW IS REAL. Point being, everyone developing their worldview is seeking the REAL worldview and this has been true as long as humans have been humans. In fact, it was true before humans became humans and when you learn how intelligence works and how intelligence evolved, humans are not the only intelligent beings with worldviews. Next point is what the definition of God, Goddess, Deity. People like to reduce this word to mean a very strictly limited narrow part of what the word means. God is an honorific title given by those who believe the object of that title deserves that title. Those believers define their God, not anyone else. It is then up to non-believers in some defined God whether they believe that God is real, imaginary, or a mixture being partly real and partly imaginary. The next point is on how we determine what is real from what is imagined. Since childhood I could imagine full sensory hallucinations with such detail that at times I could not differentiate between what was imagined and what was real. This led to serious problems for me when I had nightmares, because I would wake up still in the nightmare and it would appear real to me that the nightmare was continuing, including sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch; including pain. So, for example, if I was imaging my hand was burning, I felt excruciating pain, smelled burning flesh, and would be screaming in panic. I had to learn how to tell the difference between what was imagined and what was real. I also had to learn to control my dreams. It took several years, but by my early teens I gained full control of this problem and have never had a nightmare since. Still, when I want, I can focus my mind and create waking hallucinations which are under my control which are so vivid they rival my sensory perception of reality. That is, by the way, how I can tell the difference, because when I am hallucinating a reality I can control it but reality is a consistent existence which I cannot control with my mind. What has made the religion of science & technology so successful is having been able to prove to so many people that so much of it is real and not imagined. You are also humancentric, making yourself blind to things like the fact that other animals are self-aware intelligent beings who understand things like good vs bad and have their own worldview, which might be vastly simpler than a humans worldview but is still a worldview.

    Looking at some of the current research into the evolution of religious beliefs from hunter gathers to civilizations, one can understand how religions came about. Many folks have their religion thrown at them from childhood, so those beliefs get tied to their self identity. As folks get older, it's harder for them to change values tied to their identity.

    thanks Christopher. I've been closely meditating (in my way) and reading about non-dualism for several weeks / months now. I fell off the 'train of rationale' of "all is one" with the obvious discovery that all is fractured. It may have been one once, but it's not today in my world. And yet, there are moments -- you refer to as non-duality -- where I'm simply present, I relax, be myself and see things as they are and include myself in this reality ... and all is good. During the time of Babel, languages divided us. Language is another delusion or perhaps illusion - better stated - we use as a tool, NOT as an artificial self, we extend to others. When I communicate and receive communication I extend and receive myself and another. And together in harmony or accord, we are 'of one'. I believe the trap or lie is: one-ness that makes a distinction between things as separate. But, instead, I perceive we can come together again despite our fractured state and reunite 'as one', but not 'one'. Semantics suck ... hope you appreciate my efforts to communicate with you, as much as I appreciate your efforts to understand and help others understand and know.

There's a debate on where the PIE people originated, but to me it doesn't matter if it's European or Indic because we are all family. The Mexican style costume within the video acts like a beacon as it shows fashion that celebrates the peoples. People wear tattoos with pride, people wear moustaches with pride, even with fashion people wear patterns with pride. Characters within media although somewhat based on stereotype can flourish as they bring charm from their culture. Apu from simpsons as he was originally portrayed was just an average joe running an average job with a pop of his culture helping him through life. Rolf from ed edd eddy although a made up ethnicity held onto his culture as he traverses through american customs was as beloved as he was intriguing. I believe caricatures no matter how much they poke fun at a specific person or idea can bring forth said person or idea. Besides if the caricatures in question were done in bad faith people will pick up on it and choose to ignore both the caricature and the creator of said caricature.
