Recoil spring damaged because the cord snapped.
When a pull cord snaps, there is a lot of energy stored in the spring, and if it doesn’t have anything to stop it rotating, it will continue around and cause damage to the recoil spring.

Stihl pole trimmer head not rotating fully
มุมมอง 91หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi folks. Stihl 145 degree pole trimmer heads can suffer from this problem. The pin wears in the trimmer head body, it then makes it harder to push a pin in which releases the safety device which locks the blade if folded back in its storage slot. I do tell customers about what I’ve done, and they understand as they all start their trimmers with the blade folded out.
Don't use used engine oil as chainsaw lube
มุมมอง 941หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi Folks. This explains why you shouldn’t use used engine oil as a chain lube on your chainsaw. Oil isn’t oil! There are different additives and grades added for the use it’s required for. Used engine oil isn’t good for lubricating your chainsaw. You can use it, but then expect costs caused because you decided to use used engine oil. I’ve actually had a customer who used cooking oil as a lube. ...

    RAPESEED OIL. I have one electric chainsaw (14" or so) with overenthusiastic oil pump, so whenever I'm using this one (occasionally only, when cutting things "within the range of extension cord") I always pour rapeseed oil into the thank. Cheap (three times as cheap as regular "bio" chain oil), 100% biodegradable, and does its job. Also, I learned this trick from folks who use chainsaws much often than myself, and if they don't see any detrimental side effects then it's probably OK. (I do not see any either, but as I said, I use this saw only occasionally.) The only downside is that since vegetable oils harden when exposed to air for prolonged period of time the system has to be flushed with "proper" chain oil whenever the saw goes into storage - which again is pretty simple task. Pour out whatever rapeseed oil remains in the tank, pour some of the proper oil into it, run the chain for couple of seconds until you see that new, darker oil splashing from the tip of the bar, and you're done.

    Europoor here. In soviet times, forest workers used old tractor transmission oil, which was boiled in a barrel on fire and skimmed off the top to free it of metal particles. If I'm not mistaken, the oil was tep15 and was very viscos, but since boss Karl Schwab doesn't allow it, and you can get a hefty fine for it, people now buy biodegradable chaisaw bar oil.

    • @DugatDizzyLizzys
      @DugatDizzyLizzys หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with packing things with grease helps in maintaining, but not in this case. I do put copper slip on the drive pins, but there are a few reasons I don't pack them with grease. In my opinion it's thus. 1) If the machine is regular used, the pins will not seize up on the shaft. This is a pro machine and I know they put miles on it each week. 2) If I pack it with grease, there is a good possibility as the plastic axle bearings will wear and allow the grease to leak out from the disc as it's loose, and it may cause the customer to call me as they have grease on their roller and its also on the grass they've just cut. And nobody wants to end up with grease on their foot after walking on their lawn. 3) the pins are a few pound to replace, and after 3 roller changes on a machine, all I've had to do is file a little bur off the drive shaft the pins slide through with each pin replacement. 4) Grease is sticky stuff. Grease + grass clippings and dust = grinding paste = wears out faster. Hope that explains why I don't pack these with grease 😁

    • @TGMForum
      @TGMForum หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DugatDizzyLizzys Dug, my info regarding the grease was direct reference from the Hayter service bulletin. I've personally never seen the grease leak out onto the roller, but it does help to lube the shaft where it runs through the end caps as well. In the near future the cams will be better sealed and those two washers fixed in place, instead of relying on the outer bushes to do it. How are the gearboxes holding out on the PRO's? We seem to get through quite a few of them.

    • @DugatDizzyLizzys

      @@TGMForum I've worked on machines that are a couple of years old, and they have never been packed with grease. Is that an addendum to the manual? A customer has had 3 sets of rollers fitted, but not a gearbox, yet, but then I expect the rest of the mower to be knackered first.

    • @DugatDizzyLizzys
      @DugatDizzyLizzys หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most electric chainsaws I've come across, the chain doesn't spin as fast compared to a petrol saw, so there is less flung off the end and allows the chain to be lubed. That bit of chain lube helps the waste oil stick to the bar also. It may be OK for occasional use, but constant work requires a proper chain lube.

    Looked like the top pulley half had broken away from it's hub, hence the brake arm shaking forwards and backwards. There was a recall for the early ones for this. When it got really loose the top pulley half would break up and eject itself from the mower. Also the hole where the cable spring attaches would wear through and become unattached. There's a shorts vid on my channel on a 48 where it did just that.

      @user-of6gv4db1r when the BB is engaged, it grips the 2 discs to drive the blades. Same thing on this mower is happening. As they were loose they make a vibration until the BB is engaged because of wear. If you say it looks ok, then is the grub screw tight and the discs close together as where the grub screw tightens down on, can wear and allow the discs to move about. Also check the belt tensioner and other bits along the belts path. TBH, it's easier when I can see it, than to help online. I hope this is helpful 😁
