S11E9 -The Containment: Michelle Adams on Northern Jim Crow
The 1954 Supreme Court decision, Brown v Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas declared the separate is inherently unequal. The Supreme Court declared that it was in the national interest for kids to learn together. And while progress towards that goal was slow, and often met with resistance, there was an opportunity in the decision to try to heal our nation from the extraordinary wounds caused by slavery, Jim Crow, and persistent separate and unequal opportunities for Black people. In many ways, 1974's Milliken v Bradley decision put an end to that potential. A tragic Supreme Court decision, that led Thurgood Marshall to write a powerful dissent, in which he says, "unless our children learn together, there is little hope that our nation will learn to live together and understand each other."
Professor Michelle Adams has been studying the Milliken decision for many years, and just released a book about the case, called The Containment: Detroit, The Supreme Court, and the Battle for Racial Justice in the North. It's an easily digestible, incredibly compelling story about the power of ordinary people in Detroit who came together to fight for equal opportunity for all kids, and who came up against a court that codified White flight as tool to avoid integration into law. We are still dealing with the ripples of that decision today.
Professor Adams joins us to discuss her life, the book, and why she cares so deeply about this decision. While the decision caused great harm, Professor Adams also provides us with hope. The book gives a more complete understanding of the history of the civil rights movement so we can start from a shared set of facts. This understanding can help us all demand that our children learn together, in high quality, fully funded, integrated public schools, because, as Professor Adams says, it's very hard to have a multiracial democracy without that.

Every parent and caregiver wants a crystal ball. We want to see how the choices we make for our kids, from screen time to activities to where they go to school, will impact them when they're older. Choosing an integrating school can feel like a risky choice, and even if we believe that it is the right choice, both for our kids, and our community, it's easy for doubt to creep in. What a lot of public schools have done is, indoctrinate our children to woke ideologies that damage family & religious values. All public schools are not the same, its very location based. The mission is to ensure our children can: Read, write, understand basic math, science & history. Schools should be teaching basic home economics & entry STEM courses. The public school system has proven to be very corrupt & must earn the respect that it lost. Honestly with the internet & simple community values we can teach our kids what they need to know without needing to send them to a state funded indoctrination center.

'We know that there is more genetic diversity within racial groups than between' Yes, for example, about 13% of African-Americans have APOL1 gene variants, 49% of Nigerians do, 9% in Congo, and 30% i in Ghana. Huge genetic diversity, and yet the lying doctors say Black people are at higher risk of kidney disease than white people.

This woman Dr. Laura seems to be redefining the meaning of words. Latinx is just ridiculous and it was invented by the nonbinary and trans movement. It's fine to just say Hispanic or Latin American people. As far as race, i complete agree that there is a perceived racial hierarchy in the USA. Why are biracial people not considered white if they look European 🤔? Why are white people with some African blood not considered black 🤔? Who gets to decide all this? 😮

So this 2-3x spending number is unsupported by data. Since no one is doing it. The problem is with money to an extent. It is also community level and administrative. Money is often wasted in public schools. Painting walls three times in a year is the classic example I point to.

Our nation's fine, the only people that are worried about race anymore are leftist insecure bigots who can't get past their own skin color, and lazy crooks who want another excuse to loot, riot, rob and hurt people. The statistics today show nobody cares about skin colors as much as they care about gas prices, or feeding their families, or getting a good job, or paying lower taxes, or border security. This last election especially showed that race hasn't been an issue for a long time. It's only been inflated by leftist scum and a lying media that follows them. Angolan muslims, Mexican immigrants, and The Amish all have two things in common. They are all completely different from one another, and they all voted hands down for Donald Trump. Your race war is over. You lost. Get over it

In this racist charged environment, giving the states power to make pollicy over the federal government is the problem. All for one and one for all. But by the time this may acure the government taking full control it would flip to the federal government who would become hostile to black rights and it has flipped back and forward tell both the states and the government becomes the same as we see now. I always thought that a dam, for like of a better word would be the US military code of conduct after all there was a civil war but now hearing of the purging of woke hierarchy in it's ranks, whatever that means, tells me that may not be true.

Thank you for reposting this. Dr Anderson is brilliant and that infectious joyous laugh provided comfort amongst my chagrin. Unfortunately the dominant group’s collective fear of losing their supremacy, entitlement, mediocrity etc. from personal experience, is applied broadly to bipoc people. And the tactics by which they execute complete dehumanization and degradation is easily executed. The problem besides sheer stupidity, is that oppressing and brainwashing high performing bipoc specialty workers deprives the dominant group of the unique skills that individual has to offer. It’s no surprise that corporations and even higher education highly value sociopathic and narcissistic individuals as those types easily will engage in associated pathological behaviors which oppress their own as long as they gain.

The people who put this up are either Communists wanting to promote Communism, or they Useful idiots. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Useful_idiot Nothing promotes Communism like racism. First of all I love Black people. But understand, I am 67 years old I cannot count all of the times, I have been approached and verbally assaulted by random Black people. I have also been physically assaulted on numerous occasions. It happened 2 times in 2020. Both times the people who did it, said the were against racism. Can you explain to me how having Black people randomly attacking White people reduces racism? Remember we had years of the knock out game. I am sorry, I think you meant Black rage. The fact is it is amazing there are not more White people reacting negatively to the behavior of Black people. I am glad that is the case. If you think White people are acting negatively and Black people are not, the propaganda you are listening to is working. While you may think that what I just said is racist, it is not. Here is what you are missing. There are people promoting anger. Do you think those two people who attacked me in 2020, just happened? No the are the result of never ending propaganda. Luckily I happened to be married to a Black woman at the time who has since passed away, I know so many Black people I happen to know that most Black people are good and decent people. If that was not the case, they two Black men thinking they were fighting racism, might have turned me into a racist. That is the goal That is what they people behind the curtain pulling the strings want. You need to know that the behavior of the few in the Black community reflections on Black pepole. And if you experience some to the very rare White rage, it does not happen in a vacuum They want us to destroy ourselves. What you need to know is it is a trick. We are being worked. It is a military tactic. It is why they were burning down their own cities. here is something a bit long read it. in 150AD Romans came to Israel and instigated a civil war between the Sadducee and the Pharisee, After they killed several thousand of each other. The Romans road in and took over. That is why Jesus was born under Roman rule. Today there are powerful, wealthy groups promoting racism, two of them for the same reason the Romans instigated this civil war. Today for example the Democratic Party has discovered if minorities are not angry about racism, the do not vote, and they make up half of their voters. So they promote racism. We have military, industrial and Banking complex, that do not want us to stop and note they are starting wars to charge us billions of dollars killing people on the other side of the world. We also have people using racism to make money, Click bait if you will. Many of the people promoting racism do not realize the are supporting these kind of thimgs/ The same thing is happening today. They use different methods. It started after Marx in 1848. Leftists which had infiltrated the educational systems, and were in charge of writing the history books. So you trust your teachers in school right. That is why it works so well. We see the same thing over and over. They could say 200 years ago: 1. African pirates were capturing trading vessels. The held the crews for ransom. Between 1750-1800 ship records show 1.5 million crew members taken. 1.3 of which were not ransomed. So this 1.3 were castrated if they were older than puberty, and sold as slaves. This would be true history. Bet you did not know about it. or the could say. 2. In 1805 Europeans ended the importation of slaves. Started ending slavery world wide. No they do not teach either of these now do the, well this is what happened. This two would be true history, they do not teach it. They teach" Europeans were capturing poor Black people for slaves. No, that is not what happened. They bought slaves were were captured and sold by Africans. What they do is cherry pick history, to find an occurrence where a White person did something bad. They twist the history. It is nothing short of slander by the time t hey are done. They want you to assume they have done nothing good, when probably no other race has done as much good in the world besides the Church. They lead you to the premise. That everyone should be angry at every White person living today, because of this occurrence from hundreds of years ago. What you need to know. 1. It did not happen the way they said. 2. White people have done much good in the world. 3. Black people too have done bad things. they want you to assume they have not. Now you are all set up to hate every White person on Earth, though though not a one of them did whatever it is they told you to be angry about. It is a military tactic. They want us to destroy ourselves. We must not fall for it. That is how they had people out burning down their own cities. Go out and make some friends of a different race. That is how we win. We must not fall for it. It is a trick.

I love Dr. Anderson and her works. A lot of Critical Salient points. For me, I get very angry whenever I hear Misguided Black Nationalist / Separatists / Marcus Garveyite disciples invoke and wax poetic about "returning" to Jim Crow Segregation because there was a "stronger sense of Community" and "entrepreneurialism / consumerism". While I can understand that kind thinking, it's still Fantasy and Ignores what Whyte Hegemonic Law and Rage can do to us in other areas. Also, I have become weary of Whyte Notions of the "Jim Crow Era / Segregation is Over", so therefore there is "nothing more to be done for Black folk"...I find this kind of thinking (Colorblind / Universality rhetoric) still finds its way into American political Discourse and then into Socio-economic Policy writing as a Strategy to further stagnant and undermine our Progress. Worse, WS appears to have recruited a New wave of Migrants / Buffer Groups who are Unaware of this History and Collude with the Oppression and Corruption of our Social Justice Claims like Reparations and Police Accountability.

Thank you, for the Heart response. I have subscribed. Love this kind of critical discourse. We've a lot of Ryght Wyng Nationals brimming with Rage and Resentment up here too, who are afraid they're "losing ground" and want to "make Canada Great again" too.

This podcast should be called The Lies Democrats Will Say. Trump was not in response to Obama....he was in response to warmongering swamp creature Hillary Clinton. Democrats media allies pushed Trump because they believed he could not win against Clinton. As I recall, Marco Rubio was polling double digits over Hillary, and democrats were furious. So they proceeded to do two things...they chose the republican candidate least likely to win against her...and gave him a massive media presence. They essentially sold republican voters on Trump. The second thing they did was to manufacture a plan B by trying to associate Trump with Putin, which was a Clinton fabrication. They spied on his campaign, they manufactured the now debunked Steel dossier....and they found the Access Hollywood tape....all designed to keep Trump from beating Clinton. And when that didn't work they did what democrats do....they fear monger....the world is going to collapse...Trump will drag us into a 3rd world war...Trumps a racist...etc etc. But what they didn't count on...is that Clinton had already damaged her ability to win because her reputation as a corrupt life long swamp creature and a globalist. People did not want to see her again in the Whitehouse. The plan b measures failed. People turned to Trump as an outsider candidate who has never been a politician and was not chosen by the establishment Washington uniparty....and he was a clever campaigner. He exposed Clinton and the DNC for the corrupt people they are....when her emails were exposed showing how democrats pushed Sanders out who was also gaining far too much traction...people had enough. Ironically, the speaker in this podcast didn't seem to have a problem with Biden...who has a lengthy history of racism going way back. He argued for segregation...staying he didn't want his children to attend desegregated schools calling them a racial jungle....and then there was the Clinton crime bill he fought very hard to get passed that criminalized black communities for decades....and far more damage to black communities than we will ever know. Now we have democrats pushing another black person...out of desperation....the old white man they voted for is incompetent...he pushed an aggressive progressive agenda that drove up inflation, brought us closer to www3 than ever before, allowed 11 million illegals into the country and gave them billions in benefits including free health care money, housing, education for their kids. And not a red cent to struggling black communities. Now black men in particular are seeing that democrats never cared about black people they only value them as long as they keep democrats in power. And...democrats have strayed far from the values many black people feel are important. Issues like abortion has left many black Christian voters with a very bad taste in their mouths. Democrats are in bed with mega corporations, with the military industrial complex, globalist, and the likes of Dick and Liz Cheney...the architects of the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan...Liz is actively campaigning for Harris. After all they have thrown at Trump, the fake impeachments, the lawfare tactics to disrupt his ability yo campaign, the assassination attempts, the ridiculous hysterical fear mongering, the lies and smears...he is leading in key battle ground states...and is predicted to win. Democrats think black people are dumb...and many black voters are over being taken for granted. They can see the fake accents Harris uses to pander to black voters....and this latest attempt to persuade black men to voter for her she wants to legalize which is just insulting and degrading. Apparently some Harris campaign advisor thought "just throw some money and weed at black men and they will jump for joy" they think they will forget about her record in California, and as vice president...no matter how much media help she gets people can do their own research....which then leads us to democrats want to censor social media...in order to control the political landscape in their favor. Which gets us to Elon Musk...when bought Twitter, democrats were andvare furious they no longer have a way to manipulate public opinion on that platform....they can't silence unflattering stories like Hunter bidens laptop, and the democrats using the FBI to censor legitimate criticism of the government.

I will be the first to comment. Slaves "Löhnsklaven" were never denied an education in most States. They went to Aboriginie Schools "Einheimische Schule". A lot of that story you are telling is propaganda created by whites. Some places still have a few Aboriginie schools like Hawaii has a few remaining schools for Kanak People only.👍

Ummm… I think you’re misunderstanding the 3.5% rule. 3.5% of the USA population is 11,665,500 people (not 3 million) and the research was about “maximalist” goals like overthrowing the government, removing an occupying force, liberating land not desecration of schools or meaningful integration. I encourage you to actually read the research.

Thank you for this conversation! As a Black mom working FT and serving on my daughter's private school PA (not PTA) this was really validating. I felt like I was from a different planet.
