Good job. However, you're meant to make music with substance. Your voice is meant for a substantive message. Strange Fruit. Ain't Got No, I Got Life. If not that, something of meaning. You're doing a disservice to your audience by engaging in pop-aligned music. Your audience wants to hear a civil rights track, your audience wants to hear something with depth. Powerful, booming, emotional. It doesn't even have to be about black, or race. It can be about love. Something that happened to you, or someone else, that they told you about, which had a profound impact, that you could be the storyteller of. This is what your voice is meant to do. Record a song about a person whose lover is on their deathbed and they're caught between a conflict of their inner self because they've met someone new who gives them the confidence to be themselves in the next chapter of their life, however, their lover, while on their way out, is their soulmate and they'll meet again in heaven. Something like that, something with a strong impact.
