Less than 20 euros for a 2,5 hour trip in first class? A real bargain indeed. Here in The Netherlands we have the most expensive trains in Europe, so let's compare the same distance and time, a trip from 's-Hertogenbosch to Gronignen. In second class: 31,20 euros. First class: 53 euros! You don't even get any extras in first class in NL, only a bigger seat. Only thing is that the RegioJet trains are really old.
I fully agree with you either way that trip is still a bargain😊 Do you have any recommendations for any trains I should take in the Netherlands?
@SoloTravelReports Dutch railways company NS has some good routes with nice views or nice stations. If you go from Amsterdam to Rotterdam via Haarlem, you will find some very monumental stations (Amsterdam CS, Haarlem, The Hague HS) or recently renewed ones (Delft, Rotterdam). If you go from Amsterdam to Zwolle via Lelystad, you will go past the nature reserve Oostvaardersplassen, which is a nature reserve in Holland's largest polder Flevoland. After Zwolle, you can go to Leeuwarden to visit the beautiful landscapes of the Friesland province in the north. Try to find an old but comfy Koploper train on that route. In Friesland, there are lots of small train lines operated by Arriva, getting you anywhere in the quaint villages there. Lots to choose from, but be prepared for high ticket prices.
