Hi Looks great, do you have any plans to make a version for a single or 2 cylinder engine for motorbikes
Oh dear, it looks like I've ordered the wrong one I got the uni one for my xj6 series 1 should I have ordered the other?
Just repaired a mk1 escort mecico tacho with one of these kits ,no problems works a treat.
Have a 6 dial ford escort rev counter think its an RV1 ,will this modification work with a luminition electronic ignition, Regards mike willis.
Thanks... Just set mine... Dead Easy... Trev
Just bought a reliant scimitar, the rev counter goes right round when car is ticking over, can you help please
Hi, It may be that the electronics in your rev counter has failed or the car may have been have been fitted with electronic ignition which is incompatible with the rev counter. Either way one of our repair kits may well solve your problem. Please email us at clocks4classics@gmail.com and we will do our best to help you.
Yes the settings are retained when the battery is disconnected. However, If you do need to change the settings at any time you can do this by repeating the calibration procedure. We don't currently deal with speedometers.
Does it remember the settings if you disconnect it from battery and also do you convert speedometers/ many thanks
Do not cut the wires! The little slotted rings on the corresponding posts can easily lifted on the posts. Evidently that eased the assembly at Smiths or Jaegers! No soldering in the assembly process!
Hi, Thank you for your comment. Although you can remove the solenoid without cutting the wires it is necessary to cut them anyway in order to fit them to the circuit board as shown in part 2 of the video. Also, cutting the wires avoids disturbing the wires too much which can strain and break the internal windings. A good tip is to add a small drop of super glue to the external wires at the point where they enter the solenoid body and let this dry before removing the solenoid. This protects the internal winding wires form strain.
Hi just purchased one and fitted it to my 1969 Elan . Great wee piece of kit and instructions were spot on . Very happy .
Thank you for an excellent video, I have a 1964 Jaguar MKII that I am converting to Neg earth , the clock has never worked and I will now have to order you kit and fix it for my car.
Really good video
This tacho repair kit is a new product which is now available on our website at www.clocks4classics.com
Hi would you do the conversion? If I send you my clock, I’m in the UK
What is mosking tape?
Please note that there have a number of changes and upgrades since this video was made (e.g. the kits are now dual polarity). Please download the full fitting instructions from our website for latest details.
A really interesting, well made video. Thank you.
Very fortunate to find this and a very clever solution. I see this was posted a while back. Are these kits still available? I will visit your website. Nice video. Very well put together. Thanks.
Hi - Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes the kits are still available and are now dual polarity so a converted clock will work on Positive or Negative Earth. Lots more info on our website at www.clocks4classics.com.
Thanks for this guide, I managed to successfully remove the bezel. I have two questions: Where does the loose spring go that fell when opening? Is it between the minute hand and the inner surface of the glass? What is the best way to re-attach the bezel after the repair? Thanks.
Hi Markus, Well done for managing to remove the bezel. There are a couple of different places the spring could be from. If it is a thin spring It could be from behind the time setting knob. If it is a short fat spring then it is from behind the "regulating disc" (the small indicator which turns when you adjust the regulating screw). If you download the repair kit fitting instructions from our website you can find more details there. With regard to refitting the bezel, you can crimp it back in place by using a small piece of wooden dowel or similar to gently press round the back edge of the bezel or you can use clear silicone to secure it in place (this works well as it cannot be seen when the clock is installed and allows you to remove the bezel again if you ever need to).
Hi do you convert 6volt clocks to 12 volt ? Thanks
is there an easy way to tell a positive earth clock from a negative earth one? mine has no information written on its front
Hi, Some clocks do have a marking on the back of the case. For instance "Feed lead Positive" means that the feed lead is positive and the case is negative so the clock is Negative Earth. Similarly, if the case is marked "Feed Lead Negative" then the clock is Positive Earth. If you fit one of our circuit boards the clock will become dual polarity which means that it will work on both positive and negative earth cars without any further modification.
We do offer an overhaul service and you can find details of this on our website www.clocks4classics.com. We also sell a DIY repair kit which hundreds of customers have used to repair their own clocks. There are detailed instructions and FAQ on the website so that you can see what is involved.
Do you offer rebuilds?
Thanks for posting this! I was wondering if I'd need a special tool but this seems possible!
can you tell us how to repair a early 1900 car clock?
Sorry, we only deal with the Smiths / Jaeger electric car clocks.
Hi, that is very helpful. I have one and try to repair. But it is hard to find the spare part. Can you please share your contact details. So that i can get more advice from you.
Very intresting. I hope you oiled both ends of the ballance staff, it also looked as if the hairspring could have been rubbing on the side of the plate.
that was awesome
