Don’t do it. 85% law enforcement suicidal deaths are from corrections. It mentally drains you, 18hr shifts. If your doing it just for the money it ain’t for you

not saying it’s a bad career but you’ll definitely get stressed out with coworkers & inmates, I worked at willacy county for 3 years then transferred to tdcj thinking it would be more structured & cos would take rank seriously…that wasn’t the case at all lol, Half of the time i worked with lazy officers who wouldn’t do nothing but sit in the picket all day & sleep…so i called it quits & decided to join the military instead

Prospective SOG Operators have 1 or more years of experience as a Correctional Officer (prior experience outside of the MDOC and military experience can also be considered), are able to pass the MCJA Physical Fitness standard, can complete 85% bench and 85% front squat, complete an "indoc" involving some stress inoculation and testing, oral interviews with team leadership, a 2-week basic certification course followed by 1 week of firearms training and then "routine" ongoing (in-service) training for all members of the team after successful completion of the first components. Message us on facebook at facebook.com/maine.gov.corrections if you'd like to be connected with a current SOG member to learn more.
