How to Make a Table and Box for a Shapeoko 3 XXL
How to Make a Table and a Box for a Shapeoko 3 XXL
I apologize for taking so long to post this video! I have been in and out of surgery, and at the time of publishing this video, I am going back into surgery today…its be pretty tough to get around to editing the video but…better late than never!
Supplies:
4x4x8 yellow pine
2x4x8 pine (studs)
4x8x ¾” sheet of Maple Plywood, you can use any plywood you want.
1x4x8 premium pine for trim pieces (optional)
6” in locking casters (Heavy duty to support more weight)
Overlay hinges.
Cabinet Handles
Plexiglass
Caulk/silicone
3in wood screws
1 ¼” pocket screws
Sandpaper: 80-120
Paint (Optional)
Spar urethane water based (optional)
COFFEE!
Table Dimensions:
Overall, the profile for this table is 48” inches deep, 60” inches long, by 38” inches high.
I cut the 4x4’s to 30” inches. Frame boards were cut to 45” inches and 60” inches. The narrow side cubby is approximately 18” inches deep by about 30” inches high and spans the depth of the table (48” inches). The extra stock/cutoff bin is approximately 18” inches high from the top of the table down, 42” inches long by 48” inches deep.
Box Dimensions:
Back Panel: 47” inches by 30” inches high
Side Panel: (no window) 48” inches by 30” inches high
Top panel: 47” inches by 48” inches
Window Panel: TOP strip: 7 ¼” wide by 47” inches long. BOTTOM: 7 ¾” wide by 47” inches long. LEFT/RIGHT Vertical sides: 4” inches wide by 14 ½” long.
Cut a piece of plexiglass to fit the opening with a ¼” deep by ½” wide Rabbit around the inner edge of the “window” opening, attach all the pieces together with pocket holes and screws. Secure the glass with clear silicone and small nails. Let dry for at least a few hours before you attach it to the box.
Door Panel TOP: 8 ¼” inches wide by 24” inches long. SIDES: 3 ¾” inches wide by 14 ½” long x2. BOTTOM: 7 ¾” inches wide by 14 ½” long x2. REMEMBER: You need to make two doors, so double these numbers using ¾” inch plywood. Use pocket holes to attach the pieces together and attach with pocket screws and wood glue…Clamps required.
Sorry, this was kind of thrown together, but I needed to get this video out here as I have had TONS of messages asking me when the next video was going to drop! When I can move around again, I will get back in the shop and make more content, but in the meantime I just wanted to say thank you all for the great support and constant messages/comments…. It really means a lot to me and I hope y’all keep the comments flowing!

I actually like hand carving over cnc myself. It shows a dedication to your craft. To me cnc carving kind of cheapens it to me. Im a machinist myself so i feel entitled to say it. Great job.

They look really nice! I wish everyone would also post how many man hours it took to build them. I was pretty much all in until the stars. That's got to be labor intensive to Dremel out 100 stars. I had the audio muted, so I don't know if he sold these, or what he would charge if he was making these for sale, along with the bags. I'm thinking these would have to go for $400 a set with the labor involved, just to make a little bit of cash. With the bags and materials, you're into it ~$175-$200, maybe more. I like contrast, so if was building these, I would leave the frame and legs unstained and simply clear coat them or a whitewash stain to let the top stand out more. Nice job, though, they'll be a big hit with a nice, frosty PBR or two!

Nice Job Anyone with a vinyl cutter can cut and weed the star stencil for you. Especially if you find the file for them that is the exact size. Of course, they can size it for you also.. But, they cut the vinyl, weed out everything but the stars, and apply transfer tape to the stars.. Ask them to use the lowest pressure transfer tape they have. IE.. Easy to peel off. Then, do everything you do, but, wait until the first coat of poly is on the area where the stars go (good place for a good stick of the stars, and peel the heavy backing sheet and start straight on one edge and start putting it down with a credit card, bondo spreader, etc, while you roll the backing off.. Then, carefully pull the transfer tape off at a good backward angle and the stars should stay right where you want them.. Then, just put the rest of the coats on and your done.. Cut some serious time off of your builds.. They look great..

I've been using a rubber stick for years. It cleans all of my sanding paper as well as belts like new and gives them new life. Saves me a ton of money and time. You can get them online. They come in (I'm guessing here) 2"x2"x6" stick. Good luck!

I suggest drilling a pilot hole for the 3/8" leg bolts. Try finding a second drill for this purpose, saving you time. Personally, I'm not a fan of the pocket hole tear out problem. You could try another form of connecting the top.

I have a question regarding the vinyl..I'm currently working on some boards with gel stain and vinyl and there is either a residue from the vinyl that we used or the removable vinyl we used pulled up some of the plywood where ever it stuck. Have you had this issue with the type of vinyl you used? I figured a light sanding would get rid of this to have it ready for poly. Thanks in advance.

First, the flag is displayed incorrectly. Second, it is a disrespectful desecration of the flag of the United States of America. A true American patriot would never do this nor own one of these abominations.

US Code title 4 chapter 1 section 8. No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. (b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise. (c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free. (d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general. (e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way. (f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling. (g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature. (h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything. (i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown. (j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
