It’s a Ootsie Thing

Having a nickname like Ootsie for 50 plus years has been so much fun! Why? Because it starts a conversation. My husband Michael nicknamed me when we were dating back in the early 80’s. My family and close friends call me Oots!
In 2013 I opened a flower shop and called it Ootsie’s Blossoms and Boutique and even though I sold that business and retired at the end of 2022 the name still carries on. The flower shop is one of the greatest accomplishments I have achieved in my life.
Now being retired I get to do what I want to do when I want to do it. There is no telling where you may find me. I could be helping my husband in his shop, decorating at my house or church, working in my kitchen, pouring concrete statuary in my She Shed even helping out at the flower shop on occasion. The options are endless.
You will see things I like to do and maybe even some things I don’t like to do, but I am willing to try just about anything. Thanks for following along with my crazy, retired life.

Steak Fingers is What’s For Supper
When you are busy all day doing laundry and cleaning house the last thing you want to do is have to spend all evening in the kitchen. Steak fingers are actually very easy. Add mashed potatoes and gravy and you have the perfect comfort meal.

These easy 3 ingredient sausage balls take 30 minutes from start to finish. While your oven is preheating mix this together, bake for 30 minutes, brew your coffee and you can be on your way. They are so easy and so yummy. When I make mine for breakfast I make them little smaller than a baseball. When I make them as an appetizer I make them walnut size. Enjoy your meal!

Tonight is our Connect Group so I fixed a bigger meal than I do on a regular basis. This 3 in 1 Casserole is a staple I grew up with and have continued to make. Beef Tenderloin, Baked Potato, salad and bread is What’s For Supper

This was super easy and very little clean up. I smoked a beef tenderloin on the smoker for about 3 hours, put a couple of potatoes on the smoker for and hour and a half, I already had some veggies cut up for a salad and some bread. The tenderloin was so tender and tasted amazing. I hope you will try this for supper.

You just can’t beat a good homemade hamburger and then you add French fries to it…yuummmyy!! I had a surprise and my youngest grandson came with his dad to pick up his 4 wheeler and asked to stay with GiGi and Papa. I just can’t say no. So when Elijah stays with Gigi he gets a root beer float. That is always on his menu.

Tonight was a test and a first, oh… and a last. We’ve never had Cabbage Casserole but I was willing to try it. Suspicions have been confirmed…we DO NOT like cooked cabbage. Michael did say it was “ok” and he could tolerate it but he said there was no need of making that again. He did eat a second helping but I quickly put it in the trash and took the trash out . Today had it’s challenges. My microphone kept quitting so I had to do voiceovers. Other than that it was a good day getting ready for our spring kickoff connect group for the spring semester. I fixed cheeseburger soup, chicken vegetable soup, salad and blueberry dump cake. I got the recipe from Al Denta Diva. You should follow her. The food was good and the fellowship was even better.

Enjoying chicken fried steak tonight too! 😋
Chicken fried steak is always a good choice!
Speaking from someone that does like cooked cabbage, I'll be honest I didn't even think that recipe looked good. But it's funny because for supper tonight I actually made my sister's stuffed cabbage casserole. It ground beef and onion cooked together with your seasoning of choice, I like Montreal steak seasoning and garlic powder, then when it's browned, turn off the heat and toss in uncooked rice. The recipe says to layer the cabbage, then the ground beef mixture, but I like to add the cabbage to the beef and mix together. Place in your casserole dish and top with Campbell's tomato soup mixed with water and pour that over the top and bake covered for an hour. Remove the foil and top with cheese of choice and bake until melted and bubbly. It's really delicious. To me there is something about cabbage with beef and tomatoes that is so good because I love cabbage in my beef vegetable soup too and there are tomatoes in that. anyway thanks for sharing your kitchen with us 😊
That might be better than the recipe I used. The hamburger would definitely help. It was the texture that my husband and I didn’t care for. It was kind of slimy. So by adding your ingredients that would definitely help with the texture. Thanks for the recipe and thanks for watching.

It seemed like we could taste individual spices instead of an overall flavor. Maybe I didn’t get it mixed good or something but next time will be using my own mix. I use Lawrys a lot. That’s what my mother always used. Let me know how it turns out.
The soup recipes looked so good! I can add them to my fall/winter menu! Also the blueberry dump cake looked delicious! I can't wait to make it!

I don’t know or why you came up on my TH-cam but this is my grandsons nickname!
Ootsie is a very unusual nickname and there are not many of us out there 😁 When my husband and I were dating in the late 70’s he gave me this nickname then everyone started calling me that. My family and close friends shorten it and call me Oots. I used to own a flower shop and the name of it was (and still is) Ootsie’s Blossoms. So give your grandson a high five from me and tell him Ootsie says “hey!”
@ we named him this because it was the way he talked before he was 2. He would point and say oooot… it stuck. We also call him ootsies and oots 😂 so funny
Well that is a similar story of where my husband got Ootsie. He has a niece whose middle name is Suzanne and her last name was Belle. They would call her Susie Bell. When she was 2 they would ask her what her name was and she couldn’t say Susie very good and it came out “ootsie bell” so that is where it originated from. She is now 55. 😁
