In February 2024 we came to Cumberland for a trip on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. In May 2024 we moved to this wonderful city and are so glad to be a part of it.

I was told by a Delaware River Railroad Volunteer Tier that 142 might be up and running on a Day Out With Thomas in August. Keyword (Might Be)

It's crazy to think that 558 and 561 are now about the same age that 501 and 502 were when they joined the WMSR. How time does fly. I'm glad some 80s/90s GE has been preserved.

734 is slowing being restored

Very cool racing the locomotive. Was this done with an e-bike? I can't wait until 734 is back in service. Wheel slip around 10:21.

What was the serious failure 734 suffered in her final run special? Trying to find anything even videos and nothing showed or explained it.

I sincerely hope that the Georges Creek division still owns Alco FA-2 number 303 I think that locomotive and another engine that operates on the Durban and Greenbriar Valley Railroad in West Virginia are the only two survivors of the four FA-2 locomotives that were operated by the Western Maryland Railroad

I volunteered n this system from 1993-1995 and actually havephotos of #734's initial run and a montage of photos and audio when Green Frog came down to film #734and the FA's on site at that time. I am proud of volunteering as a helper, brakeman and fireman with a smattering of runnning the engine. It is a jewel and so are those involved, past and present.

After years of watching TH-cam I recently found your channel, and I love it. I lived the first 20 years of my life in Cumberland (1960 - 1980) and wouldn't trade it for the world. I didn't realize the historical significance of the Tri-State area until I move away (my dad worked for PPG and was transferred in 1980, to an office in Char. NC) .. A sincere Thank You to everyone who helps make this channel what it is. I'll do what I can to help support the APSL.

Awesome video, and very up to date with the Georges Creek Valley segment. The only thing that could've made that segment better would have been to have Danny Harmon narrate that part as well. Danny Harmon was a great choice to narrate this documentary.

So , 734 should be back on the rails in 2031?

This documentary is a little bit more special to me because I rode behind 734 in it's last days. I was invited by the crew that day to come down to the shops and help restore 1309 back to operation. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have reliable transportation to make the 3-hour trip every other weekend to help with the volunteer restoration. Glad to see it's up and running though! It's really one of my favorite little railroads.

I wonder if there are any surviving WMRY Tenders used for the railroad’s 700 series of 2-8-0s. There is a surviving 4-6-2 Pacific from the railroad that is on display.

This kinda feels something like an old History Channel documentary(or at least ones they used to run) when they were good. Neat, even more because it's talking about Maryland.

Fantastic video! I rode behind 734 when I was in Cumberland back in 98 for engineer school with Csx. Also, we chased 1309 in 21 when she returned to service and rode behind her in 22. Very class act operation!!

Love our local railroads. Can't wait till the George's Creek Division is fully realized.
