Nice fix. I would have spent ages looking at the audio port, surrounding caps and trying to work out where the audio was going missing. Surprising to see an audio chip stopping the system from booting like that. Thanks for the info. New subscriber here too.

My old PS1 will only play games if it's stood on its side wtf 😂 I'm guessing it's something to do with the laser maybe but I dunno anyone know what this is?

i have had this same issue about 2 days ago so this video helped a lot and when i went to go look at my drive the top looked fine but i decide to bend it out a bit so the magnet part still sticks but doesn't make the noise and also put new grease on the rails, so yeah just bend to top up a tiny bit and it should be fine

Anyone know why a gg turns on then off after recapping? It did initially run for about 30 minutes then just cut off. I verified its not the pb so only thing left is the MB. It did turn on and off before recapping. The board is actually very clean the oem caps did not appear to leak at all on the boards.

We own an 08 cobalt, which we purchased NEW. It's an LS, 5spd, have gotten 41.2 mpg on a road trip to Indiana before. Ours started with crazy symptoms just after the 36k warranty ran out several years ago. Front speakers completely quit, turn signals have no ticking sound, left signal front or rear no longer works at all (new bulbs no fix), gages go crazy from time to time, engine light stays on, engine runs ruff off & on... Car only has 111k miles on it as of today. I'll be checking into this fix, thanks.

Thank you for this. I have a PU-7 with 40-pin BIOS that has this same stuck at Sony logo problem. I initially thought it to be a BIOS corruption, and it's hard to get a replacement for 40-pin models. I'll definitely give the capacitors a check now!

I am installing a PSIO on a 1001, it was working normally, and had a bigger mod chip on it, to run burned CD i presume. I took it off, installed the PSIO Switchboard, and now it is stuck on the Sony logo. I should had tried to boot after removing the old modchip, too late now. Will try to check those capacitors, hope that is the problem.

Nice job, thanks for sharing. After repairing hundreds of consoles I learned that replacing all capacitors is a must. They can affect everything from not working at all to bad video and audio.

After creating this video I did decide to recap the power board. In general I always recap power boards on consoles this age that I plan on reselling as I've run into too many issues with worn out filtering capacitors on older power boards/supplies. In game gears, you have to replace all capacitors, including the 3 on power board, they all will leak at any time.take my word

Thanks for the video. All the other videos had me taking off a bunch of parts underneath when it was much easier to go from the top like you suggested. Oil was all over the clip sensor and on the TCM bottom sensor. Car already runs better. Had issues with it for two years so I’m crossing my fingers!
