A true Earth Angel!! Her courage and activism are truly inspiring!! Thank you Julia Butterfly Hill! I wish you peace HEALTH and love always! ❤️
I was giving a massage to a mutual friend of ours, Laura Goldman yesterday and she mentioned this interview with Julia Butterfly. I got so excited. I have had Julia’s Sebastopol book signing flyer on my bedroom wall since she signed my book back in the day. She is my hero, a star to me. Also I’ve lived in Occidental since 1981 and haven’t heard you speak either. So Hi from Gay Jacobsen, practicing Massage Therapist since 1981. Thank you for this opportunity to hear both of you💕
What good timing! Yes, I am not sure if we've met but I know of you and have heard raving reviews over the years about your massage skills! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you! I once tried air dried persimmons like this and they were the most decadent thing. I’m going to try making some myself. 🧡
They are delicious, almost decadent like chocolate is!

Thank you so much Mary Sheila. I've been looking for other uses for my hemp seeds. The warm beverage before bed will be the first thing I do with it. .
Let me know how it goes Debbie! Yes I think you’ll love it!
1030 I have made cashew milk and hemp seed milk but never thought of the combination. Can't wait to try it.

Thanks Mary Sheila ! really helpful video. I am often craving protein. this is good.💚
Your welcome! Yes, it's so building in nature, trust your cravings when it comes to protein!
Great video! Very succinct and helpful information 😊
Well thank you Dr. Mila, that means a lot coming from you!
Thank you for this helpful information! Based on what you talked about with stomach acid and proper digestion, I am wondering what you think of having shakes for breakfast and adding collagen along with ginger, good fats like avocado or coconut oil. It seams like you would recommend sitting and chewing but there are a few times a week where the shake really makes breakfast easy.
Thanks for your question. Shakes work well for lots of people for breakfast. I've learned they don't work best for me and my blood sugar, but we are all different. You can sometimes eat them with a spoon, even though that's not as convenient! And if you can do them at room temp in the colder months, that's good too. Collagen is a great protein, but I would in addition add another protein source, as it provides good amino acids, but it doesn't necessarily replace the protein. In fact, if you look at the label, it will say that collagen powder is 0% of your protein needs for the day. So add that and either a whey or plant based protein, or another kind, that adds more. But yes, convenient and sounds like you are adding good ingredients!
Super helpful information about the importance of proteins and ways to get it, as well as the critical nature of our digestive system and how it plays a huge role in ensuring we can digest the proteins and turn them into us! I appreciated the direction regarding how much protein people might need with the example of 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of weight per day for a more sedentary person. What would be a good range for a woman in her 60's who works out 5x/week, 30-60 minutes, and is under moderate stress? :) Thank you!
Thanks JoAnne! Glad you liked it! For a woman in her 60s who exercises 5 times per week (30-60 minutes per session) and is under moderate stress, a good protein intake range could be 1.2-1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. This range accounts for your activity level, stress, and age-related changes in muscle maintenance and repair needs. So this would be about 77-102 grams of protein per day, if you weighed around 140 lbs. Hope that helps! So 25-30 grams per meal, with a 15 gram snack would get you there easily!
@@OccidentalNutrition Thanks for the quick reply! 🙏🏼
Yahoooo, so good!
Great video! Thank you !
Overeating is complex. It's an addiction beyond what you're recommending.
I understand overeating is complex, of course, and this is a short video. But learning how to eat properly, giving the body what it truly needs is important and something that many people don't really understand. This is often a missing step in today's diet culture, and with these new meds, it presents an opportunity to truly learn how to eat for optimal health, which includes relying on whole foods.
@@OccidentalNutrition wow, so enlightening.
Great conversation! Such a delight.
your video tutorial is best but your video views are too low and if you want you can grow your channel. even you can monetize your channel.
and in support of others, I have AGAIN learned that if I just don't eat ANY sugar, after 3 weeks, I no longer think about, want or crave it ~ FREEDOM!!! And also my tastebuds re-acclimate to the nurturing FUN deliciosity of fresh fruit....which becomes really satisfying dessert
love all of this; am doing all of this, actually ~ thank you, Mary Sheila 🙂 It all makes a HUGE different in how I feel and how I can move and function in general; is also gentle, which as you've said, is so much needed

What are your thoughts about snacking? Share below!
Only my dad would want to drink salad dressing and it better be ranch! 😇😂
That I can get behind!
I think vinegar any type of vinegar hurts your gut I guess you could use lemon juice instead of the vinegar?
Yes if vinegar hurts your gut lemon or lime juice, or a combo of the two would be great!
I just made this and it is Yummy! I had all the ingredients on hand except for Miso, so I substituted with a teaspoon of Umeboshi paste. Next time I will use Miso and compare how different it is.
Sounds like a great substitution, glad you liked it, and maybe you'll add the miso and keep the Umeboshi paste too!
This does look amazing I'm going to make it today😊. Thank you!
You’re going to love it!
Mary Sheila, you are so AWESOME, I can only imagine the burst of great flavor when you tasted this yummy salad dressing, thank you for sharing,👍and greetings👋for your family and you.😊
Thanks so much, you should make it, it really is a burst of flavor!
Mary Sheila……what are longevity noodles? Sounds like something I should make.
It's an Asian noodle dish, I'll have to get the recipe from my neighbor, stay tuned!
So glad to find your video as I’m in front of two persimmon trees loaded with fruits this year. Also good to know they can be processed while firm. Will definitely try out your method and report back :)

I love this elixir. I could feel the medicinal quality of these naturally sourced roots and powders. This is a must have healthy blend for your daily start. And you want will want to share its benefits with others. Bravo Megan 👏 Mahalo nui Loa.🌺
So do I understand you correct and the persimmons are no more astringent if they are processed this way?
That is correct! They are super sweet and delicious!
So do you pull or cut off the stem once it’s dried?
After it's dried when you store them, you can remove the stem, but the stem helps when you are hanging them.
So it doesn’t matter that they are still firm when you peel them? I have these for the first time and definitely have to wait until they are very soft to eat.
Correct, you process them when they are still firm, and yes, eat them fresh when soft, that's the beauty, you don't have to wait!
You have a gift Mary Sheila! What a treat to discover you here on TH-cam. Makes me miss you! I’ll be watching for more. Love to you, Snap and Rose♥️. Patty
Hi! Have you found that the cottage cheese in the packages affects digestion? Or does it being heated up change the way it’s digested? I live in the northeast so it’s getting cold for dairy but I can also incorporate warming herbs right?
if you have a good quality cottage cheese that is fermented, it has a warmer action in the body than just milk. The herbs help and it seems to digest well, if you can do dairy. Yes, you can add cinnamon, or nutmeg, which would probably be delicious!
@@OccidentalNutrition thank you so much I’m excited to try them but I am a waffle girl so I will use my mini waffle maker!
