Getting busy exploring by 4wd, paddles, and on foot!
9 Days Camping the NMW and Allagash River
Dreams of a canoe trip that would challenge my simple skills lead me back to Maine, the North Woods, and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
As summer ebbs, I take the Jeep to explore new places in the NMW, hike a mountain in Baxter, and hire a transport company to embark on a solo multi-day river trip.

The start of the west or the end of the east? As the long days of summer arrive, I drive my '22 Rubicon 800 miles from Westchester County, NY to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, exploring the back country and shoreline of the Great Lakes. In the evening, I cook and pop the camper top when it's time to drift off. Jeep camping in a thunder storm on Lake Michigan, digging for copper in the Keweenaw Pen...

As spring returns to the green mountains of VT, I spend some time exploring class 4 roads in the central and southern part of the state. The Jeep gets to stretch it's legs a little during the day and serve as my cozy home at night. We also visit Neal Pond upstate to help out with a moving project.
A Total Eclipse from Vermont

Well, everyone has their own eclipse story. Our family has roots in the state of Vermont so we figured we'd watch the 2024 eclipse from our property northeast of St. Johnsbury. Burlington, however, was almost dead center for totality so we rented a place over there for the weekend. I also wanted to run some trails, and managed to squeeze in a a bit of exploring in central VT. Will be back up th...

Colorful Jeep Trail Run--Hunter MT.

Not my usual Catskills hike. I joined a Jeep tour up Hunter Mt during peak fall colors in Oct '22. The weather was absolutely gorgeous during peak fall color, and the vistas from the...

In this final episode of Jeep Into Maine I visit Bar Harbor to do some business. Afterwards I drive along the Loop Road and hike some Acadian coastal and interior trails, ending up on a mountain with gorgeous views of the distant ocean. My longest overland trip to date launches into Maine, exploring it's natural charms from the logging roads of the North Maine Woods to the rugged coast of Acadia National Park. Teaser for an upcoming 3 part series about my extended overland journey into Maine. I covered hundreds of miles from Kittery to the North Maine Woods and down to Acadia National Park. Hiking A Catskill 35er--Blackdome Mt

After hiking Slide Mt, I have Catskill summit fever. Looking to bag another 3500 footer, I ramble up Blackdome Mt on a beautiful June day. The 3rd highest peak in the Catskills at 3980 feet, Blackdome offers a lot: dense canopy, streams, bridges, great views, scrambles, and branching trails to other nearby summits. Also, night will fall before the hike is over!

Thanks so much for watching Pablo!
Hi there! I’ve told you those already but will say it again - love your jeep set up and your videos. Can you tell me what bumper that is you put on and is your winch an 8k lb or 10k lb?
Hey Jeff! It's an Arcus bumper from Rugged Ridge and an 8k Warn Xeon winch.
What kind of electric blanket? Battery or plug in?
Plug-in
@@jimbresnahan I love your setup. Great video also, I enjoyed it. Please keep sharing.
Loved every second of this! Great job!
Thank you Donald--this is super motivating!
Great great video! I don’t know what you do for a living - your production of the video and the shots are impressive. Please keep the videos coming!
Thanks a ton Jeff! I work in animation but enjoy doing this kind of stuff.
I grew up in South Jersey and after marrying my wife we used to take our sons to Lebanon State Forest’s lake to teach them how to fish, that was 30 yrs ago. It is a lovely area. It is amazingly quiet and serene for an area smack in the middle of two huge Metro areas. Sad it’s been named for Byrne a democrat most South Jerseyans detested.
Such a unique area--thanks for sharing your memories!
Excellent video, thanks for taking us along! I live in Maine and you've inspired me to plan a similar adventure.
Thank you! So much adventure in north Maine.
Enjoyed the video, give you allot of credit pushing yourself. Though I’ve boated for many many years I’ve never canoed. Toyed with the idea. As always thanks for sharing
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Sorry, dude, the view rocks up there when you can actually see it. It’s a pretty good hike. The West Coast has discovered the concept of switchbacks. Not so here in the Northeast.
Baxter is so cool!
"How much deeper could it get" is a terrible question to ask.
🤣
Gotta be with nature when I have the NV2500
Next summer I'm doing this trip from the Chicago direction.
You had me at Michigan. ❤❤❤❤❤
Great videos and BTW..... that is one awesome Jeep!
Thanks Jeff!
not to rub salt on a wound, but it's usually a pilot error when a dji drone goes down
Lol Melvin, I'd say it's always pilot error in my case.
Here in Maryland state parks work under honor system. Not sure how much longer that will exist.
Thank you for that info!
Nicely edited video. As others have mentioned, you missed some of the more spectacular spots, especially in the northwest portion of the UP. Linguistic tip from a lifelong Yooper: "Pasty" rhymes with "nasty", not "hasty". And a true Yooper would NEVER ruin a pasty with gravy. Ketchup, or nothing. The classic combo is a pasty (with sides of coleslaw and a dill pickle), and a 6-pack. It's called a "Yooper 7-course meal". As a kid growing up in the UP, the pasty is an all-purpose food. Boy scout or youth group outing? Mom throws a pasty in a bag with some cookies and a bottle or two of water and you're fed for a day. Kids eat them at ambient temperature, meaning even in winter we eat them. The Big Two Hearted River is lovely, and of course Hemingway wrote a short story using that name as its title. But a bit west and south you'll find the Fox River, which flows south (Big Two Hearted flows north). It passes under M-28 at Seney. In the early part of the season when the water is high you can canoe it all the way to Manistique. Locals know that Hemingway actually fished in the Fox River, not the Big Two Hearted. He used the Big Two Hearted in his short story title because it's more poetic sounding, but also because he didn't want people finding out his fishing spots. As you learned, "L'anse" rhymes with "schwantz", not "chance". It has French Canadian roots. Though the largest ethnic group in the UP generally is Finnish, there is a sizeable French Canook presence in the UP. My neighborhood had a lot of Finn names like Aartilla, Maki, Sampala, Lahti, Rintomaki, Rajala, Lahtinen, Pelto, Aho, etc., but we also had French Canadian names like L'Hillier, Lancour, DesJardins, etc.
Amazing comment--this adds so much color and context! Wish I had know you before visiting or writing the narration--your writing should be published.
This was a really enjoyable trip with great production quality. You are good at this. Question: what do you do with your diesel heater at night when it’s raining?
Good question which I've never had to answer. It's all contained in a weatherproof case so I assume it'd be fine and I'd probably never use it above freezing.
Wow, VERY nicely done video. Sorry you were sick for part of it. Even though I live here, I still enjoy watching other people's videos and sometimes find new places to explore. :)
Thank you Angela! Truly beautiful a place you live.
What do you use to find the trails?
Gaia GPS and OnX Offroad apps.
@@jimbresnahan cool, thank you
I love your jeep and the set up. I have to ask - why no winch? Nothing crazy but your by yourself out there……..
I have one now but not in the early videos.
I’m digging your videos……. Same quality video and narration as venture4wd channel, not plug but a compliment
Thanks Jeff! Bought my Jeep/Ursa because of him. Kind words like that are inspiration to keep going.
MUST go to High Rock Bay next time, thats always the "End Destination" on my UP trips
Great to know. Thanks Chris!
Nice videos, but my biggest congrats is for being one of the few vblogger who actuall knows how to camp cook!
😂 Anything cooked in cast iron counts as a camp meal. Thanks Paul.
Gotta check out Houghton Hancock. Very peaceful video
Thanks!
"I made fajitas" nice "without the bread" what?
😂 I know…technically fajita fillings.
My dude struggling with those Michigan words 😂 love it.
@@luketdrifter2100 😂 Folks, come to Michigan prepared.
@@jimbresnahan nah you did ok brother. Loved the adventure. New subscriber now
Yea especially pasties not paste-y because those are something different entirely. 😂
Welcome. Love your set up. Perfect for this place. So many amazing places to see.
@@luketdrifter2100 Thanks!
Great video. I live in Michigan and we just got back a few weeks ago from the porcupine mountains in the upper peninsula. How did you find the two tracks you were riding on. I never know if the trails I see are private roads or open to the public.
Thanks Ernie. I use the Gaia GPS app for finding trails and it has a layer that shows public/private land. Might need the paid version for that, worth it for me.
Loved this video. Being in the UP has always been a different feel than anywhere in the state.
What a treat to visit...hope to see more someday.
Thats quite the set up you have going with your jeep! Great videos of the area that you took to adventure in! Next time, you need to stop and see the Tahquamenon (Tah-kwah-meh-non) Falls! An absolute must see when exploring the U.P.! They are between Newberry and Paradise. There is an Upper and Lower falls and there is a place to camp there as well! With a nice Brewery/eatery with excellent food! There were also some pretty cool Falls in Munising as well. The Horse Shoe Falls are pretty neat! Lots to expore up here in what we call "God's country"!😊
Tahquamenon Falls def on the list for next time. Amazingly beautiful part of the world.
@@jimbresnahan well, whenever next time is, if you drop a comment here before you come, if I am still working in the same place, you can drop in and say "Hi!" And get some groceries!😊
Lowkey, about a half hour/hour-ish from taquamenon is an area called "The Widewaters"...connected to shelldrake lake. Looked like a cool place to explore and was going to taquamenon in the morning. Honestly wow. Complete seclusion and serenity with NO one for miles right on the water. Bunch of 2 tracks off of vermilion road. It's kinda been my secret area for the last couple years
Hit me up next time you go back to L’anse. I’ll hook you up with Wally, who’s lived there his entire life, and will take you places that very few people know exist. The logging trails are my favorite.
Thanks--seeing local secret places would be amazing!
It’s not a Pas-tie like a stripper wears on their nipple. It’s pronounced pas-ty. And my mother was born in L’anse. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
Ha thanks man, should have known that one before coming up. Truly a beautiful area!
Great video! We live in Midland Mi not too far from your first stop in Pinconning but we get up to the UP a few times every year! Watching this got me excited for our next trip to Copper Harbor coming up in September for the Keweenaw Overland Adventure Retreat (KOAR)! I also had family that lived in the upper Keweenaw Peninsula most of my life so I have been fortunate to spend a lot of time up there.
Aw man that sounds like a blast! Fantastic you live so close to the UP.
I like the mouth of the 2-Hearted River. Its waaaaay back in off the paved road and went thru a pretty substantial forest fire years back but man, once you get there, its pretty epic.
Your content is fantastic! Interested in partnering to sponsor a product?
Thanks! Not really, this is just a side hobby.
Rule number one... Don't hit trails alone. Rigs break. Rigs roll. People get hurt.
Truth…I’m mindful of this esp as I’m not skilled to do most trail repairs. Safer in a group, but so many are adventuring solo whether canoe, backpack, or vehicle and knowing your limits becomes extra important.
it’s pronounced (PASS-TEE) lol
Dang I’m getting a beat down on this one. 😭
@@jimbresnahan No lol i would say it the same way if i didn’t live here. (BEAR-IH-GAH) baraga, (LAWN-SE) L’Anse (PASS-TEE) Pasty (MEW-NI-SING) Munising. Other than that great video! You know what they say, come stay for a few days spend money, but please don’t stay haha we like our secluded piece of heaven. I live in Escanaba about an hour south of Marquette.
Beautiful ❤
Great video! FYI I know its weird, but the correct way to say it is "Past- E" not "Paste-y"
Maybe my worst error--I got an earful about that!
God bless you for taking me back to my up of Michigan
Thank you for that comment!
Sry, but they're pronounced Pass-tee's, as someone who grew up a Yooper it almost hurts my ears to hear someone call them Paste Tees 😮
Beautiful! Great cinematography…thanks for sharing! Looks like an amazing place to explore.
Thank you!
I 💜 the U.P! Pasties are the bomb! Whenever I’m up there I get frozen ones to take home and make later!
Yum--now I need a pastie. 😄
Awesome Adventure! Loved the video and staying in Pinconning Campground made my day. My uncle lives near there and grew up always having fun there.
Very cool! Wish I had more time to explore there.
Best White Fish Dinner I ever had was in Grand Marais Michigan. The little bar there in town has the best Ice Cold Beer/Soft Drinks, and fresh white fish. I love it up there.
Awesome--appreciate you sharing that!
Things like this make me want a wrangler. Everything else in life makes me not want one. Also it's pronounced mun-sing.
