I can't help myself from drawing some parallels to stories some non-straight people told me when navigating through their adolescence. They felt unable to experience love for what they are, as if only straight people could feel true love. They also felt ashamed of not being what other people expected them to be. A true man, loving the same things other boys loved to. Completely lost, some spoke to me about desperation of never be loved, even from men. There are a huge fear of rejection and not being able to deal with it. Some told me they entertained the thought of catching AIDS from a guy, so that guy would stay and live forever with them: no break-up or rejection. Which is dumb in retrospective, but they told me desperation and fear of rejection made them think of crazy scenario. Others told me about thinking being a "toy" for older men, thinking those men would never reject them either. Even willing to endure anything which could be assimilated to torture if it meant to be with someone. They grew out of that phase, gain more selfesteem and now, even if some admit it is some fantasy that raise their interests, they know how destructive and not an option that it is. Theon as Reek reminds me. He gained more love from the Stark family while being their captive, than his own family. He is also very ashamed of what he has done to them, believing he would finally feel the love of his family. Theon allows himself to become Reek, as he could find multiple ways to escape the situation up to just let himself to not live anymore. I don't have any testimony on the other side of the spectrum. So I can't talk for Ramsay if he has a similar development.

One aspect I really like about the show is the duality between Jon and Ramsey. They have have similarities to an extend, both are belittled by others for being a bastard, Catelyn Stark despised Jon and Roose despised Ramsey, and yet both are mirrors of eachother in a sort of way. Jon is an example of healing that trauma into a greater purpose, and Ramsey is an example of trauma taking over an individual to the point where they become unrecognizable. It culminates into the battle of the bastards and Jon getting the upper hand, ultimately being the one to finally defeat Ramsey. It’s really poetic in my eyes, I know the show became controversial after they started doing their own thing, but that’s a plot line I find really compelling, and hopefully George has something similar in winds of winter.
