I actually think it's really funny if you turn around while on the endless stairs, you realize you never actually went anywhere because the bottom is always right behind you no matter how far up you think you go. Basically, you're running on an escalator treadmill.

Sonic didn’t use his Dash Boost that’s why it took him so long but even at normal running speed he would’ve easily gotten up there in less than a second

At least SONIC finally made it to the top.

Technically if he is faster than the respawn mechanic he could just jump into the level before being reset
