So out of the two Punta Cana And Jamaica which on would you pick?
Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana. Hands down. The resort I'm Jamaica is beautiful but the resort, overall, in Punta Cana was just better.
We just booked this room today for Christmas in December for 10 days...(long ways away still) but you just confirmed any doubts I could have had! Love the video.

I've been to Excellence Punta Cana, I loved it. I'm going to Excellence Oyster Bay this year. They didn't have any Excellence Club Suites available. Has anyone been there without having Excellence Club benefits? How was it? Having access to the private beach and premium liquor is what I appreciated most about Excellence Club Punta Cana.
I've also stayed at Excellence El Carmen and enjoyed my stay so much that I was thinking of heading to Oyster Bay next. Did you travel to El Carmen and Oyster Bay solo? If so, what was your experience?🤔
I agree. The food on the resorts in Jamaica are not good. Got back from DR couple of weeks ago.........Much better.
Which places have you been to in Jamaica where the food wasn't good?

I just thought the food was pretty decent at chic resorts in punta Cana..loved the Jamaican food at breathless resorts in Montego..

I think all of this particular room type receive about the same amount of sun in/on the pool as they are beachfront. I would recommend requesting a room in building 7 because these rooms had the best view and beach access, in my opinion. I also got a LOT of direct sun each day on my deck/pool. Hello! Could you please tell me the temp of the water in your suite’s pool? I’ve read some reviews of people saying the pool is too cold, but I’m not sure if it’s an isolated event. Thank you!
Hello! I can say the pools are NOT heated. They are like regular swimming pools...cold when you get in and then warm up as your body adjusts to the water. I can't say what the actual temperature of the water is/was, however. Also, they are warmer depending on the time of day with the water having direct sun exposure, of course. I hope this was helpful.

@jpringle8981 Yes, I do think Excellence Oyster Bay is a great resort! Very clean and upscale with great customer service. I will say I wasn't overly impressed with all of the food but the food at the Grill was pretty good. I've already booked another stay at the end of 2023. If you can, I do recommend booking the Excellence Club Beachfront house suite with plunge pool, it's right on the beach and has private access to the beach with stairs leading down directly to the beach from your room.

@@jpringle8981 That isn't what I said. I said I wasn't impressed with all of the food (I had) but I also only ate at 3 of the 10 restaurants on site.

My wife and I just got back from staying in a Junior Suite, non-preferred. And we had a great time! We never had an issue getting chairs at the pool (but we are early risers) and the staff at the pool and the restaurants were very kind and helpful. We usually tipped a couple of dollars each time we got drinks and $5 for each dinner. We NEVER had to wait for a seat at any restaurant, but we usually ate our dinner around 6:30-7. But as we were out and about after dinner we never saw anyone waiting in line to eat. The only annoyance was check-in. PLEASE take this advice: have a swimsuit on when you arrive (underneath your clothes would work) because we arrived around 11 am but check-in is not until 3 pm. We got lunch and walked around but it was HOT! We were told to come back and check on our room after 1/2 hour probably 5 times!!! It was never ready. We finally got our room at 3:30. Had we had our swimwear that would not have been an issue. We would have sat by the pool and enjoyed some drinks. Next time we'll know!

Do all the rooms come with a jacuzzi on the balcony ?
There is no jacuzzi on the balcony. The over size tub is in the bathroom. There may be a jacuzzi on the balcony on the preferred side but I saw no rooms with any.
@@bethbrown3744 Yes I have seen that some rooms have this set-up. Probably the preferred rooms. However, one of the videos I saw showed the jacuzzi on the balcony all covered-up and not in use, but the TH-camr thought that might have been due to COVID, he/she wasn't sure.
THANK YOU for the detailed tour on the NON-PREFERRED side of the resort. Almost all of the reviews on TripAdvisor, etc. are for people with big budgets who stayed in the Preferred Club, so naturally THEY were (generally) happy, so to hear your review based on the other part of the resort was VERY helpful. And, as you have experienced, it is so darn hard to see and experience the inside of the rooms from a hotel's website - WHY is that such a difficult thing? They love deceptive angles, incomplete photos, etc.... you always end up feeling you're being misled. In contrast, your tour covered every question I might have. Well done! BTW, I hate the Preferred vs. Non-Preferred concept, and while I won't know for sure until I get there (coming up in three weeks), it appears from recent reviews that people who have good comments about the Wild Orchid staff and service are from people who stayed on the Preferred side - perhaps this is the result of COVID issues, leading to the Preferred side being prioritized when it comes to quantity and quality of staff... In any case, the recent comments from people on the non-Preferred side of things are VERY concerning to me: "fighting for pool chairs" "disinterested staff, act like you're bothering them" "two hour wait for food in the restaurants." I also find the tipping thing very annoying... the place claims tipping is optional but apparently that's B.S. unless you want to wait forever for your food, drink, or other service. But we shall see. Very happy you had a great time... just wonder how it will all turn out a year after your trip. Thanks again for the great video review, it was very helpful!

Did they have wait staff on the beach?
Yes, they had servers on the beach but for drinks only. Otherwise, there were food options nearby, within walking distance of the beach, at Seaside Grill and Barefoot Grill.
Great review !! I don't know why so many of these resorts are designed with the open bathroom concept? Even when you are traveling with your Boo you still want privacy. 🙄 Glad you mentioned the food. We just got back from Secrets Cap Cana in DR while we loved it, the food was probably a 2 out of 5. We loved the food @ Excellence Playa Mujeres , so we are hoping the food @ Excellence Oyster Bay is similar.

What was the beach like? Was it rocky? Deep? Shallow?
There are rocky portions of the water. I'd recommend water shoes. In front of the resort, the water wasn't super deep, or at least I didn't venture out too far...only about to my chest. The sand area of the beach (where the chairs are) isn't very large and (as you can see from the pictures) is pretty shallow. If the resort has a higher capacity you'd probably want to get out to the beach/pool area earlier in the day to get beach/pool seating because there aren't adequate chairs for the number of people that would be there if the resort was full.

Were all the restaurants open? How was the food?
No, all of the restaurants weren't open. They were only operating 3 restaurants per night on a rotating basis but they were usually the same 3 restaurants. It was usually the Mexican restaurant (El Patio), Jamaican restaurant (Blue Mountain), and then either the Italian restaurant (Portofino) or the French restaurant (Bordeaux). During the 5 nights/6 days I was there they never opened any of the other restaurants (seafood, Asian, etc.). They did also have their buffet restaurant, World Cafe, open which was only open for breakfast and lunch. To me, the food was below average, often under-seasoned, overcooked, and the desserts were disgusting. None of them were sweet. Also, the room service food was pretty bad.
Thank you for your honest opinion. I didn’t expect much because all inclusives never really have good food! . I’ve started researching food off the resort as well. I need some good meals
