Shooting Ilford HP5 Plus In My Mamiya RB67 | Under An Overcast Sky
Shooting some Ilford HP5 Plus in my Mamiya RB67.
I spontaneously decided to go out and shoot some HP5 film, even though the weather was not really good. But I thought the clouds could add some drama to my images. Since I have not used my Mamiya RB67 for some time I was super motivated to go out.

Testing The Fujifilm GFX 50S For My Photography | Will Suit My Style?
มุมมอง 1.9Kปีที่แล้ว
The Fujifilm GFX 50S is already some years old, but still holds up very well. It shoots pictures in really great quality. Due to certain reasons, I was in need for a digital camera, that would fit the look and feel of my film photography (mainly medium format). So I did what we all do and watched some reviews. When I then came along a great offer for a used GFX 50S including a lens, I could not...
Ilford Delta 3200 at night | RB67 Medium Format Camera

Shooting Ilford Delta 3200 in a foggy night is not as easy as it may seem. Event though i metered the film at an ASA of 1600 and developed at 3200, the negatives where very thin. I still have some rolls of delta 3200 left and will defiinetly use them. But as of now i am not sure this will be one of my fave films. For shooting i used my Mamiya RB67. with temperatures around -3 degrees, the camer...

Rangefinder? Heck I used to use an old quarterp;ate camera in the late 40s and early 50s ..glass plates at that and guestimate distance and never had a problem! Loading the slides..put the glass plate on the lower lip..if it sticks slightly..thats the emulsion side!! Developed my own glass negs in a dish Happy days they were....
sounds super interesting. Especially the glass plate thing! Some people don it again these days. I love seeing their works. But not everyone is good at estimating distances.
Hola! Gran video y gran cámara. Tengo un pequeño problema; el contador de frames no vuelve a cero. Al cambiar el rollo quedó en 20 (era una película de carga casera) y al poner la nueva película, no volvió a cero (0).
Provided you have not worked the transport lever ( not even partly) after you took the last exposure, the frame counter returns to the start automatically when you remove the camera back to change the film if you partly moved the lever even partly, youbhsve tontrigger the shutter before opening the camera to activate the mechanism.
Great video, very informative!
I can not believe these amazing results with such a cheap film. Did you use aperture priority mode? No reciprocity failure at all?
Since the aperture is manual it kind of always is in priority. I really just set my aperture and set the camera to automatic. I did not care about reciprocity at all. Just did all of this super experimentally. Besides that, i would say that Foma is not nearly as bad as many people say. I nearly always have good results, unless i screw it. Only bad thing i can say is, that every now and then they have some artifacts or impurities in the emulsion but its not too bad. I really like shooting the 100 and 400 speed films.
I think shooting 8 picture burst is an incredible waste of film. So i dont care if it comes with the advanced rechargeable battery.
3:25 and 2:12 awesome
thanks! these are also kind of my favorites.
The BEAST did a superb job. I prefer FP4, but your exposures were fantastic. Thanks and keep your Beast working.
Thank you so much! 😊
The dumbest thing on this is the focusing. 100% I'd be ready to take a shot so I meter, cock the shutter, advance the film, do all of the other settings but then forget to focus.. Because I look trough the viewing window and my brain is like : check that's in focus. When it's not even a reflex camera..
yah, but you could use an external rangefinder such as the „TELEX“ or Watameter or the BLIK from Lomo (the 1990s ones but be careful with that things, there are a lot of problematic units on the market). There should also be one from Voigtländer and many other companies. Such a thing will make your life a lot easier. Well… atleast if the rangefinder is correctly calibrated 😅😂. The Telex: ebay.us/vH2XAz The Watameter: ebay.us/T9aCK7 Others: ebay.us/bJRvP1 (the above links are affiliate links). There accuracy strongly depends on if they are calibrated for closeup- or far distances. There are also ones from Kodak that offer close up kits. But i can not tell you if they are any good, since i never used the kodak ones. I have a Telex and calibrated it myself for closer distances. But to be honest, i have no more zone focusing camera in my arsenal. I got rid of them. Greetings.
Bro your end cards at the last 20 seconds of the video completely block the images...
Thsnks for the info! I take care of it!
Amazing😍👍! Thank you so much for this Video, well done😅!
Hi what kind of rx fils you use?? How expose and develop it Congratulations from Argentina
Shot Mammo film many years ago (at least 15 years) this one was double coated though & rather slow and contrasty. I never had a problem cutting or any fogging with it. I'm surprised you can still get the film as when I retired from X - Ray sales in 2013 most hospitals were going digital.
I must try.
Hardly seems worth using film if you're just going to change it in digital post production. May as well have used a digital camera in the first place.
Hey, usually I would say you are right but please do not forget, that i primarily digitize pictures in order to use them on TH-cam or my website. My regular prints are done in the darkroom. I also always try, not to do edits to digitized images, that i could not do the same way in the darkroom. And after scanning you need some esditing, since linear scans just do not look nice. The only time I really digitally edit more then usual is in color film shots or digital shots. Greetings
I received my Wista 45SP recently and I thought the Wista manual was quite confusing. Your video manual helped me to fully understand how to operate this camera. Thank you so much.
Best full review on the RB67 ive seen...thx
I have a Braun superpaxette that requires no batteries but is essentially the same thing. I love my little paxette! Fits in my pocket and everything, plus the addition of attachable lenses that were so conveniently made to fit m39 screw mount lenses 👀
Do you mind sharing what type or brand of X-ray film did you use? Did you develop it using tank inversions or rotary processor?
hi, so it was either Fuji X-ray film (UM-MA) or CEA. I developed using a rotary processor.
These are based on the Linhof Technika, but nowhere near as useful. Yes, that Wista has very limited movements. The Technikas have way more.
Good objects for x-ray film. Excelent photographs. I take some shots on x-ray and see it is perfect for industrial objects on my opinion.
I didn't understand what was your enlargement!
The Photoshop action you shared is absolutely wonderful, thank you so much!
glad it helps 🙃
I'm told its a great camera. I've never shot one though.Feels like its built like a tank. I'm a Nikon guy and have two F100's. Always loved them. Based on that I'm sure the F5 is a great performer
perfect video, just what I was searching for
Brings back so many memories
👏👍😎
…I like the look and feel of the camera. I watched all of the videos. AAALLLLL of the videos. I just found my twin!
Every video I see of the GFX always comes with amazing shots, whether out of camera or edited. Talent and good equipment, it seems.
It does have a swing of sorts. There is a black lever under the left lock knob which allows the body to swing left and right
SICCCCCKKKKK!💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Really lovely landscape images. Don't be too hard on yourself. You have a great eye for composition. I own 2 x GFX50s and the GFX50Sll and love them... The 63 is brutally sharp and I use it the most from my 9 Fujifilm GF lenses. Enjoy.😇 PS...I shoot RAW and set my camera to the simulation and it gets exported into Capture One. Of course I can change it to any of the available film simulations, but it is nice to see what you are getting before importing the images into Capture One.
This was great! I have been thinking of this camera! This was really helpful. You got some really nice shots!
thanks a lot, glad i could help. well I consider the shots to be ok, there is definetly room for improvement on my end haha. But thanks a lot again :-) greets.
@@RetroPixel_analog not at all! have a great weekend 🍻
Muy bien explicado. Gracias.
Interesting images, why did you disable your like button...
i did not know i have disabled it. thanks for the hint. glad you liked the pictures!
Are. You. Fcking. Kidding. Me?!? I couldn't figure out what the two sliders do until you demonstrated how to remove the ground glas holder. So once that's taken out, there's a normal graflok entry there and now I can finally use my LomoGraflok. I was convinced, the Vista wasn't compatible with that until you showed this. Thank you so much!
so glad i could help 😂🙃🙃🙃
Glad to see you are still active making videos. I am very impressed with the fine detail of your photos, that's a great lens. I would have liked a comparison with the other Minox 35 models, GT for instance.
No photos? No neck strap?
yah, sadly the third video got lost before i could share it as a short. But there is another full 10min video, Same Camera same film :-) Nikon F5 | Unboxing & Test Shoot [ Fomapan 100 ] th-cam.com/video/9fd03trzEjs/w-d-xo.html
Thanks dude! I ❤ to bits my Wista 45SP!
No doubt a great way to deal with negative to positives, but sadly totally over my head as a total photoshop beginner.
thank you for your response, is there something i should have been more clear about to make it more understandable for beginners? Greetings.
@@RetroPixel_analog The problem is not with you. I found it beyond my capacity because I am at the very beginning of Photoshop and still have to learn my way around all the functions that you mention. Thanks anyway.
Yeah so I just got some Fuji super RX-N and HR-U. I cut some 8x10 down to 4x5 in my darkroom last night. Turns out my safe light is not very safe for the RX-N a blue light sensitive film. Had to cover the light with a rag to lower the amount of red light. I completely fogged two sheets trying to figure out what I was doing. After taking a piece of film from the middle of the stack I found that it had a 1/4 inch fogged line on all the sheets now. Sucks but at least it wasn’t some Ilford or Kodak. Now I know what not to do with it. I’ll cut it down to 3x4 sheets and that line will be gone. Can’t wait to try some out in my 8x10. Waiting on film holder lol.
yah i had the same problem with my first tries. turns out that you need actual red safelight. not that orangy stuff they sell nowerdays. and also it should not be too intensive. I have Aa 660nm light perfect for all my normal papers and so on but too strong for that film. Tested my orange light …. nope bad idea. solution. i took the orange light, doubled up a res lee filter foil ( i do not remember the number but it has to be the correct one) put it on the light and it worked. also make sure the light is atleast one meter away from your film (better 2). To cut the film in nearly total darknes i marked two different positions of my cutter with scotch, so i can feel them in the dark and know how to position the sheets. Also, be very very careful some X-ray films are coted on both sides and they do not forgive anything! They scratch super easily and the emulsion also can come of easily. Good luck! If everything works out, this is a super cheap way to shoot and also the results can be super nice.
Maybe I missed it in the video, but what is your photo enlarger? Right now I'm looking into darkroom printing and I feel like the enlarger is the hardest part to acquire these days.
Hey Eugen, thanks for your question. It can indeed feel complicated to buy the right enlarger. And i bought several different ones before i bought the one you see in the Video. So the one in the Video is a Jobo (Saunders) LPL 7451. It can handle everything from 35mm up to 4x5 inch. It has a color printing head (or additionally a multi grade filter head). The Multigrade filter head is awesome but also has a learning curve. The Saunders is actually a relatively expensive enlarger but at the same time not the most expensive either. I think it offers great value for its cost. There are of course always even better and more expensive ones like the high end Durst enlargers, which can be paired with the Heiland split grade module but they can easily go to prices of 3000-4000€ (depending on the image format). For me, i think i will stick with that enlarger, since i do not plan on making prints bigger than 30x40 cm or maybe 50x60. If you want to go way bigger you should buy one that has a rotateable head, so you can project to a wall. In Case you decide to buy the LPL 7451 used, make sure it comes with a working Stabilized Power Supply. otherwise you will not be happy. Also i know that you can find these things on KHB from time to time. (Expensive)! Pleas let me know if you need any further assistance. Also if you only plan to shoot 6x6 or 35mm there are cheaper alternatives that are also very good. EG the Dunco 66 (II) with ilford VC module. Dunco VC module: ebay.us/cOGVQs Dunco model 66: ebay.us/TgcO8P (these are affilate links, by using them you will support my channel without paying a cent more).
@@RetroPixel_analog Thank you for the very detailed response! I will look into every option you recommended. Right now, I shoot 35, but I plan to at least get a 120 format camera.
Very helpful. I just bought one and you explained everything 👍
Glad it was helpful! Have fun with the Minox 35 it is an awesome camera.
on which portion of the subject do you mesure the light , which correction if any ?
Hi, i did not use any correction. In terms of X-Ray film i worked a bit experimental. Usually i would measure three different spots, Highlights, shadows, mid tones and then (by knowing the film i shoot with) i would try to find a good average so i do not loose any detail. I personally prefer Flat negatives, since i control the contrast later in the darkroom. But since i did not really know the film it was more of a trial and error. I used the same method but from what i read online i knew that the results will always be very contrasty. Also X-Ray film has not the widest dynamic range so be careful with Highlights and shadows.
Is the battery available 2022. Just bought for $150
Hi, i think i replayed to another user on this question. The originals are quite hard to find if not impossible at the moment because Minox does not make them anymore. But there are some third party ones (i do not know how good they are, thats why i do not officially recommend them).
Is this camera any good
heyy if you got the camera in good condition with an accurately working shutter, then it really is a great camera. Sadly, the original minox adapters are no longer produced so you either have to find an alternative or you have to build something by yourself. Sometimes you can be lucky and find one on ebay but people are aware, that they are rare and so the prices are high.
Just one quick comment: you do not have to remove the the ground glass section in order to remove the focusing hood and you do not need to use a tool. You simply flip of the focusing hood an then draw down the thicker part of the holding axle and it will come of easily with the ground glass holder still fully in place
XLNT video on the RB67. I just received mine from Japan today and dying to run some film thru it. Thanks again!
glad you bougt yourself a RB 67. It´s a great camera. Have fun shooting it!
Fomapan make perfectly good film 😊
Yes, if you know how to use the film and understand its limits it can indeed be a very good film.
Great content!
I wish you would have mentioned what kind of button cameras needed
my fault. the button needed for the minox are LR43 if you use the original minox adapter. i have no experience with other ones
