Flying Legends at London Southend Airport past and present
A few aircraft performing at the Eastbourne Air show were using London Southend Airport as a stop off point to refuel and stay overnight over the weekend. I waited at the end of runway 05 for their departure as they headed back to Eastbourne for their second show of the weekend.

Such a beautiful aircraft. When i was young/kid i used to go to every airshow i could here in Sweden, and i've always been fascinated by British aircrafts! They are usually very unique, like the Fairey Gannet, Sea Vixen, Buccaneer and the Lightning for example. Very nice video! :) 👍😃✈

I remember when I was a kid I heard this horrible howling sound so loud and cried with fear. My dad picked me up and showed me the sky and said look it’s just a plane. I was terrified. But I miss seeing them flying over. Yet I saw a Lancaster Bomber fly over just a couple of years ago. It was an awesome sight for me but why can’t we keep the Vulcans or any of the v bombers in the air.

In 1968 I was working in RAF Luqa (Malta) when a flight of these beast performed a QRF take-off, the noise was breath taking! This was followed in the early 70's in Germany at the Krefeld 600 year celebrations when one of the Vulcans performed a couple of gentle fly-passes, then pilot stood her on her tail under full max power and went near vertical. These are two never-to-be-forgoten scenes even after 55 years.

Comment about corrupt memory cards ! It's best to Do a LOW LEVEL FORMAT to the Card Before using it for Video ! ! this makes the card a single group of 000000000 not random 01110000011 resulting in faster writing to the card as no erasing of data needs to be done when writing, cards have a limited lifespan when being used for VIDEO ! Ps Your camera might need a faster card !.

I agree with you but the US pisses money like there’s no tomorrow. The UK is being responsible. If they were to keep just one airworthy it would be prohibitively expensive and spares would not be available for long.

Love this aircraft. I was a teenager 40-something years ago when I first saw two of these, in formation, that were touring the UK and passed very low (or were they just SO big?) over our school on approach for a quick stop at Liverpool airport. The sight was breathtaking, they were HUGE! but so graceful and accompanied by a howl from the engines that just sounds awesome. Their participation in the falklands was a bit of a contrivance as, with less drama, the Harriers in theatre could have achieved the same or better airfield denial operations, however the _message_ they sent was loud and clear - 'From the UK; you are touchable!'.
