Welcome to my Astrophotography Journey.
My name is Remco Hekker. In early 2019 I got interested in Astrophotography. I purchased some equipment and messed around a little bit. But due to circumstances, I didn't start any real project until January 2020. So I really am a beginning Astrophotographer. In the last year, I've learned a lot of valuable lessons, and I've been getting questions on how I manage my astrophotography sessions.
That's why I started this channel, 52º Night Sky.
This is a place where I will share my journey into astrophotography. And you are all welcome to come along for the ride. If the topics of my videos interest you, feel free to leave a message in the comments or look me up on Astrobin.
I would love to get to know you.
Clear Skies,
Remco

⛰️ How to create 360º virtual terrain and add it to K-Stars
In K-Stars 3.5.3 it has become possible to add a 360º image of your own backyard to use as virtual terrain. In this video, I'll demonstrate how to create a custom landscape for K-Stars and EKOS. I'll show how to create the image, prepare it using GIMP and apply it in K-Stars and EKOS. So you can better plan your Astronomy and Astrophotography sessions.

Hi, it’s possibile to make polar Align manually uploading 2 images from old Vixen GP mount? Thanks
Hi, Can i do a manually GoTo? I mean, I have a sky watcher Start Aventure (without Goto) and I want to make plate solving, I don't know if Ekos can to detect the diference between the targent and to said how many is need to move to the scope. Thanks
Unfortunately, Google removed the Street View app and now require you to have a dedicated 360 device 🙄. I found that the Teleport app on the iPhone worked well. But I did have to create a login.
I want to add two more index files but I am unable to select the check box. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
Great tutorial, thx! What I don't know: Do you need to start the polar alignment assistant from the Polaris, or can you expect same good results if you begin from any other position?
Thank you so much for the video. It really helps to have this in KStars in my urban environment to know the area of the sky I can see from my telescope pad. You are doing the right level of explanation in your videos!
Great video. Thanks very much!
? Waar zit het verschil?
Hi! During the Platesolving process, my Ekos closes very often. Could you suggest me please how to solve this problem?
One of the best tutorials on TH-cam. Fast efficient and enjoyable. A little lacking in interludes as you turn the dials on the tripod mount.
Ontzettend bedankt!!
Fantastic video. One question . I use sky guider pro. So how can I rotate exactly by 30 degrees manually. Does it work for rough rotation.
Does not work for me.. Takes first image, slews, then just sits there after the slew never takes the second image
Perfecto. During this process, shud the Mount be on tracking mode. Ekos automatically puts the mount to tracking mode after each slew
Is it possible in EKOS to import the coordinates as you do in NINA from the stellarium??
Great video. I have i exos 100 pmc 8 n have installed latest astroberry version on rp pi 4. Mount connects well with indi. For polar alignmen on star map on one of the stars t if i right click, i don't see optiom goto n make it home position. I see rest of the other options
Very Good! Hungry of seeing more video in this series! Like your way of speaking very much!
Hi, first excelente video. Second, is possible to download the index-files in Windows from web. If is possible, how can i do? What would be the web address? Because the delay time is so much (approx. 64Gb). I was download the index-files by Astroberry EKOS but don´t plate solving.
Good and clear instructions! Thank you👍
hi, can you do this polar alignment in manual mode just like with nina?
Very good video. Unfortunately, I am having troubles with Indi. At first, the cameras (ZWO ASI) worked just fine, now it says "Camera one crashed, Camera 2 crashed" when I start Ekos. The problem is, I do not know where to ask questions!? The KDE forum only has a post every month or so...
How to get the real pictures in the view?
Hi No Name, hope this helps share.getcloudapp.com/04uy7vkW
@@52NightSky Thank you 😊
Great video; thanks for doing these!
Cool, now add artificial horizon as well :)
This is super useful for a beginner like me. I think I'm finally starting to understand
Very nice video, clear and well keep on the good work :)
Thank you for this, very helpful
Brilliant info, thanks
Very helpful, thanks. I'll be setting this up at the weekend for a test.
This was really useful! Congratulations for the great job! Looking forward for clear skies so I can test it with my OnStep.
Such a good series of videos, thanks for that! Where are you though? Channel seems to be silent nowadays:(
Excellent, very helpful
Remco. your EKOS videos are wonderfull. they are helping me immensely. thank you. you should continue to make videos about everything ASTRO. the only thing I would change slightly is sometimes the background music makes it hard to hear the words spoken. maybe that music could go down in volume. I do notice this with many You Tube Videos, and to be honest the music doesn't add anything of value when a listener is trying to focus and listen to spoken words. anyway your videos are great, nice content, clear and detailed. well done and thanks. Dave
Great content. Your channel deserves many more subscribers. Thank you
Really helpful. Thanks for all your work is simplifying the process. Recently moved from an alt az mount and have found the EQ mount to be challenging.
Hi. Does this video show you how to actually control a real mount? Or is it just a simulator?
Hello Remco, i hope you'll be fine very soon, you're great at explaining! It would be a pity if you don't continue your site here and your hobby! Greetings, Andy
Wow I have been looking for this all over the internet. My northern sky is completely blocked by houses. I have been unable to align my mount (CEM40) since I got it a week ago.
I tried this many times and never got anywhere! Thank you for clear and easy directions. Works like a charm.
I am just starting in astrophotography, and I am as newbie as you can get. Your videos are helping me so much!
@Remco Thank you for these tutorials! One question though: I have a non-Goto mount (Star Adventurer), can you explain the process of Polar Alignment for it or how do we adjust the position (azimuth and declination) manually on that one? Or if you could point me to a document or another video that talks about it. Thank you and clear skies :)
Your commentary and the way of explaining things makes them easier to remember!
Thank you! I learnt so many new features from this video! I wish you get back to making some more on this topic, maybe even some live sessions.
Great Video, really helpful , Thanks !!
All worked fine until I added the png file to KStars terrain. It is stretched vertically to the extreme! It only shows a little patch of starry sky near the center. Not sure how to match the screen to the image. The edited image looks fine in GIMP. I exported it at around 3340 pixels horizontally. What should I look for?
I think I know what the problem is now. The Google street image includes everything well below the horizon. Since my scope is 11-12 feet above the ground, this makes it even worse. I guess I have to find a way to get rid of everything below the horizon...perhaps there is a setting in street image app. ???
I found the problem. For some reason the panoramic photo from photosphere did not have the horizon in the center of the image. I watched someone else do this, and they said " of course the horizon must be in the center of the image". Mine was not. I edited it in Paint, and moved what I estimated to be the horizon to the middle of the entire frame. It is pretty close now...
Thanks, Remco. I am making the transition from a Sharpcap/Windows platform to kstars/Linux, and frequently, it is not self-evident how to use this software. Your videos are extremely helpful. Please keep it up!
I needed this video. Thank you very much
Awsome tutorial for very bad astrophotographers like I am. I recently bought my astroberry and I still didn't try one single time. I have only a (very stupid) question: how does the mount understand where is it pointing before starting with the goto operations? thank you!
