Raaga Yaman, Malkauns and Shivranjani presented by Pandit Baldev Raj Verma in AIR National Programme
Pt. Baldev Raj Verma's singing is an experience of meditation and contemplation. He was initiated into Hindustani Classical Vocal music by his father Sh. Kashi Ram. Later on, he recieved rigorous training in Classical Vocal music from Sh. Pratap Chand Arora of Amritsar. His present style of singing has been structured and moulded by Pt. Amarnath Ji, a prime disciple of Ustad Amir Khan Saheb of Indore Gharana, known for his mesmerizing music. True to the tradition of his Gharana, Pt. Verma's music is shorn of ostentation and showiness.
The uploaded recording is of All India Radio National Programme performed by Pandit Baldev Raj Verma in Ravivasariya Akhil Bharatiya Sangeet Sabha. He has presented Raag Yaman, Raag Malkauns and Raag Shivranjani respectively.
Accompaniment has been provided by Shri Mehmood Dhaulpuri on the harmonium and by Shri Prasun Chatterjee on the Tabla.

Vilambit Jhaptaal. Sthaayi: Sundara kaanchana barase meharavaa, saba sakhiyaa karake singaravaa || Antara: Dhana dhana aayi ri, Manaranga piyaa ke gare daare sakhi phoolana ke haravaa || I am no expert in the language, but an approximate translation would be: The clouds rain down beautiful gold on us, as all my friends dress and adorn themselves || A blessed time has come now. My friends adorn my beloved's, Manaranga's, neck with garlands of flowers || Manaranga is the nom-de-plume of the composer Bhupat Khan. It translates to 'one who enchants the mind.'
