Due to popular demand (2 comments) on my first Go-Pro style cockpit video (th-cam.com/video/Is0s0lv8JsE/w-d-xo.html), I've created this short how-to video in which I explain the various camera view key bindings I used to setup my video shots. I have to refocus my view and that means loosing a kill in a real battle. it this normal for these hotas? the hotas needs a few more buttons

    do you use trackir for looking around in flight simulators. if not, what else do you use? im thinking about buying a joystick but i dont want to spend the extra money on trackir to go with it, is there any other way of doing this?

    • @combatsim
      @combatsim ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use TrackIR. Back in the day, and for many years, I simply used my joystick's POV hat and a few hot keys on the keyboard for external views (if that was allowed in online coop gameplay). If you want to save a few bucks, and you have an old Playstation with eye tracking, just do a TH-cam search for "DIY TrackIR Build Guide" for a complete guide to homebrewing your own eye-tracking rig. That said, TrackIR is a worthwhile investment if you plan on spending a lot of time in combat simulation games.

Spent some time pulling it apart, troubleshooting, and it would work alright for a few hours but honestly it's kind of a POS so I decided to get something better. I don't want to spend my gaming time doing repair, I'm not playing Joystick Repair Simulator 2022.

    have had this joystick for a year, and my experience is not dissimilar from many others. thing works fine for a year with my only complaint being the notch at 50% throttle, then about 3-4 weeks after the warranty expires the whole thing starts to degrade fast. in one week the stick had started to randomly input right-hand roll commands without input, and the throttle would jitter around without input, giving me random throttle inputs (70% throttle when set to 0%). as you would expect, these things made the stick unusable, how am i supposed to taxi or in-flight refuel in dcs when the throttle jumps from 10% to full burner without warning and then refuses to come back down even when wiggling the throttle. stick works fine for a year, but depending on your luck, it'll all go to shit pretty quick after the warranty expires.

    Thrust.....Master 😂

    • @combatsim
      @combatsim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thrustmaster was founded in 1990 by the then 65-year-old engineer Norm Winningstad. The name was apt because his complex electronic throttles controlled thrust levels in simulated jet engines. Also, and I'm just speculating here, he probably thought it sounded more marketable than Hi-Tech Electronic Throttle Quadrant. Mr. Winningstad served in the United States Navy during WWII as an electronic technician's mate. In the 1960's, Mr. Winningstad worked at such landmark electronics firms as Tektronix and was considered "one of the leading brains during its 1960s heydey" (quote taken from his Wikipedia page). After Tektronix, he went on to help start one of the first supercomputing companies, Floating Point Systems, that later was acquired by Cray Business Systems. He also helped to found Lattice Semiconductor which made field-programmable gate arrays ... which are used in all sorts of applications including flat-panel televisions and laptops. But yeah, Thrust ... Master ... as you put it, could mean something else. I'm sure Bevis and Butthead would have a field day with it, but honestly, as clever as you no doubt are, I'm not so sure your comment was worth the lols.

    Just came across this review. I have the Xbox & PC version of this, and bought the rudder system as well. I'm relatively new to these simulators; but was wondering if anyone has posted a DCS profile(s) for this HOTAS? I know they vary user to user, but I am looking for a baseline.

    • @combatsim
      @combatsim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ultimately, it will depend on which aircraft you fly in DCS as the controls vary wildly between airframes. I fly the F/A-18C Hornet in DCS and found this T.Flight profile: www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3300994/ ... That might serve as a good starting point.

    I have a Tflight hotas 4 ... I have had it for years. My main game i play is Elite Dangerous on the PC... 5 years so far and it has held up to the combat abuse. Even the great beer spill of 2018... lol.... Voice Attack is a option for the low number of buttons. Voice attack is voice dictation software that does key presses on voice command. Very popular with Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen players. Works with other games as well.

    hello good sir, my father plays dcs world, and together we were trying to get this go pro style working and we succeeded in this for like 90% haha. we were satisfied with the way it looks. but then when we changed the camera view from go pro style to normal view (from the pilots eye view i would say with i believe f1 to just look around, we couldnt find a way to with just a press of a button go back to the go pro style camera view and we had to go over the same steps again. as you can already tell probably, my english isn't the best (were from holland) and i thought (assumed) that the zoom external actions would do this but it didnt work for us. so my question is. did i not understand it correctly and is it simply not possible to switch between different camera views and angles like cockpit front view to look over the map and then with the click of a action button go straight back to go pro style camera or did i make a mistake? Thank you in advance, And have a wonderful day.

    • @combatsim
      @combatsim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, I do not believe you can not go back to the same "go-pro" type view after you go back to the F1 pilot view. I agree, this is a shame because it takes a long time to get that perfect go-pro angle that you like best. If anyone reading this knows of a way to save an external view as a quick-key binding, I'd love to hear about how to do that.
