As the kids say, I did a thing! For the very first time, I pre-ordered something from the Lionel catalog. Specifically, the Volume 1 Big Book that came out in early 2024. Everybody has their favorite items, but this one if just perfect for me! #lioneltrains #modelrailroad #lionel2024

Lionel's old school trains keep running

I try to change trains out every week on the "World's Smallest O-Gauge Train Layout" here at the Cloverdale Transit Authority. I LOVE having this kind of vintage Lionel sets to run! Enjoy some pre-war and postwar action! I reference creating a "home made" tender for the Lionel #221 locomotive. It’s very satisfying to see your train runs for some reason lol. Just a cool little layout with the trains center stage.
@@DFLTrains thank you so much. I understand what you're saying. I often sit here in the room and read and just have the trains running and it's very soothing. There's probably some psychological study that could be done about this. 😆
@@CloverdaleTransitAuthority Absolutely lol
Super cool
Great little el-train set-up! If only it could pull a string of K-line's speeder trailers!
@@billintex001 do or do not. There is no try.
@CloverdaleTransitAuthority it's the right size for a little green Yoda to be the test pilot, I'll give you that. May the forced couplers be with you...
Chessie system 👍👍
New is boring, stick with used, that`s where the challenge is, and it`s affordable.
@@plunkervillerr1529 that's true. But I wanted the experience of ordering something from the catalog. Plus I really love having a speeder on the railroad.
love it
Chessie is a sweet livery. Had one on an F3 as a kid. I like the mini vehicles. I have an MTH hand car and the Lionel LCCA speeder set in MKT and Texas Special liveries. Fun to run. Hand car is bump-n-go reversing so can use on straight spurs with bumpers. Looking for a trolley next. You need a trolley for your upper circle. Like an el-train!
I actually have an MTH trolly. I run it on the elevated next week. We use it around the skinny Christmas tree in the dining room on an 0-27 circle.
Congrats on your very first catalog pre-order. It won't be your last. I have a PRR GP-9 coming in from the volume 1 catalog. It's supposed to be here around York. Ouch!!! Lol.
Can't wait to see it. Yeah. Lionel delivering new orders around the time of the Fall York... is it a conspiracy?!
I love it !!! I have a ballast tamper and track mobile no speeder yet but I want one
I want a ballast tamper too! Those are a lot of fun.

You have done a really thoughtful job of restoring your 224. Isn't it amazing how smoothly these tend to run? No, the shell was not based on a New York Central Hudson. But it does bear a remarkable similarity to the USRA designs for the 2-8-2 and 4-6-2 (since Lionel left out an axle somewhere, you can have it either way). I would love to have been a fly on the wall when Lionel's development team leafed through Kalmbach's Model Railroader Cyclopedias for ideas of what to model. Most of the early postwar introductions were actually pretty good models of identifiable prototypes. The X6454 is a NYC copy of a USRA steel boxcar, the catte car is Missouri Pacific, the flatcar (the diecast one) is a USRA design. These run about 1:60; the 224 is around 1:53 (aside from shortening, which Lionel did with most locomotives), but those NYC tenders that carried over from before the war are nearly 1:48: it's a good thing they modeled a small prototype so they still look reasonable with the 224 and the smaller cars.
I like how you get big fun out of a small space!
@@billintex001 there will someday be long straight runs.
@CloverdaleTransitAuthority that's what I'm hoping for mine as well. I also run two circles. Admittedly O72 and O60, but two circles still lol. I need straight space!
Love seeing the pull more in the steamer cab love those old Lionel trains.
I like the radio caboose at the end! 🤠👍💯
Sorry I missed this Chris

Great video buddy found a new train store.
Believe it or not! One of the worlds most profound HO collections of Trains was. Francis Albert Sinatra! of Palm Springs, California. Frank Sinatra had an entire room built for his insane set up! He had just gotten up from the desk of Mark Cox at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas, and had signed a 41 show contract. He was asked to “come look at the just refurbished venue Frank! It’s nuts!” He took the golf cart the back way and when they upended the curtains he YELLED! You Son Of A’ Bitch!! They say he was white with disbelief! There was a legendary model train maker in Germany, who made such realistic models that even the rivets were put in one at a time. So painstaking it took him a year to make one 8 car train. He only made two separate models before it was suddenly found with a heart attack. The steam engines were actual they used tiny bits of coal to heat the water to make the steam to power the engine! Most of the carriages were carved of black-forest wood. Exquisite! Frank knew of the legendary train only by Mythical stories. One was lost in the war, if the other survived it had never reappeared! Frank took the locomotive and inspected it again and again! “Well I’ll be Gawd Damned!” I’m speechless! Who is the owner, he here in the hotel? He wants to sell it to me?” Yes he’s here right now, Mr. Sinatra… He handed him a card from the Chairman of Caesars properties , Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe and Atlantic City. “ With our most sincere gratitude for the wonderful hospitality and years of loyal service to the Caesars Palace family of casinos and resorts” Enjoy this special one of a kind gift in good health! THIS MINE!? he asked. Wow 🤩 unbelievable find!

What a fantastic MTH collection of trains. 👍
Sometimes the tech people of today disgust me as they design stuff that is designed to fail, programmed to fail. The old companies did not do this. I have five prewar train sets, a 225e freight set, a 226e freight set, a gunmetal gray 763e (1937) freight set, a 1940 black 763e passenger set (with Irvington cars) and a 1937 700e Rail Chief set and all of these locomotives operate with just a little oil added. No electronics to dry out and fail, and no outdated electronics which can't communicate with your system unless you spend lots of money to upgrade. There was no upgrading back in the day, they just ran. Sometimes, with my modern locomotives, I think I wouldn't mind stripping all the electronics out of them and set them up to just operate like the prewar trains. I'd keep the can motors as they are excellent, get rid of these smoke units completely and replace all the sound stuff with a basic electronic reverse unit After all, these highly detailed models deserve to be appreciated for their detailing and simple performance (like so many of even today's 2-rail operators) where you hear nothing but metal wheels on metal rails, a beautiful sound BTW.
