In Harrison County WV there is a hidden mtb gem at Watter Smith state park. It's a really good place for riders of all skill set. It has 2 easy loops that's good for kids, most of it is blue trails and it has a couple techy black sections. The entire park is really well built and maintained.

The most difficult trail near Reddish Knob would be Flag Pole. I loved it but was in my late 40s & had to give it up in 2019 at 52.. back issues but I miss those rides, they were awesome! Keep riding the Virginia Mountains, they're Awesome!

I've heard of a backcountry trail called Death Star that is supposed to be pretty awesome! We love staying at that nearby Stokesville campground. It's nice to just bike out of the campsite right onto the trails. Your lucky to have grown up in such a beautiful area!

@@clickoutdoors There's another camp ground at Todd Lake, close to Stokesville & there's a road right behind the campground locals called, "Leading Ridge Road" I don't recall the forest service road number but you can't miss it, right beside campground. It goes across the top of the ridge & leads to the back way to Reddish Knob...its a nice challenge on a bike. It's a bit creepy though. Sometimes even in summer, you're riding through fog. Old Timers say it's Bigfoot territory. I have been further down on a forest service road below that one that we had stopped for a sandwich while going over the map. The cicadas were deafening, as if a switch were flipped, complete silence! I didn't analyze anything, I told my boyfriend, "Let's go, Now"! I threw my shit on my bike, gunned the engine, blew the horn, threw my shit in the backpack & got the hell out of there! Lol. I have no idea what silenced everything in the forest, I've seen many bear that hauled ass when they saw or heard us coming & the forest never went silent like this event. So, just know, anytime the forest instantly goes silent, its time to leave quickly.

There's many nice riding trails in this area, lots of Black bear also. I road a Yamaha duel sport on the many trails & backpack camping on the trail. You need a few days & forest service map. Lots of awesome places to ride. Peak Mountain Road leads to a forest service road for about 6 miles to 3 trails for Shenandoah Mountain.. another good ride area with nice jumps.

Wanna hear a funny story? I mountain biked and road biked when I was young in NJ (1990 ish). Got into BMX, ramp stuff/freestyle, in my 20's and I got quite good. Moved to San Diego in 2000 where I continued to bike (Beach Cruiser, BMX, some Mountain Biking). Moved to Asheville a year ago and I still rode my bike, mostly for cardio. I didn't realize how amazing the biking was in this area and I recently purchased my first mountain bike in 15 years. I still consider myself in top physical shape for biking and I'm excited to continue my bike obsession here in Western NC! Ya know what they say? "It's like riding a bike". Good video!

4:55 the old sections weren’t really fun tech in my opinion. Mostly erosion paths and water bar drops into more erosion. There’s still plenty of gnarly natural tech on other trails in Pisgah, but with better erosion control on most of it. The rebuilt section is vastly more fun now
