One of the last Armchair Theatres was John Thaw as Regan, the prequel to the Sweeney.

The way the father treated his son, during his son's public reading of poetry, was terrible. In fact all the adults with " Ray " were poorly behaved at the reading. But I'm glad " Ray " told them exactly what he thought. The father was full of arrogance towards his son, who had near impeccable manners. Fine acting by all concerned.

What did it mean when they said, "we found your brother"? She found him desd already!

Ah Lovely. Its a time of televisual calming break in ones life. It's very nice to set aside work or stress and a quiet conversational intrigue of being engaged with the rest period. I feel more my normal self again. It's a program that loud obnoxious people could do with watching and listening along. Xxx

I have read this play a zillion times, taught it, written about it, seen countless productions. my take is there is NO shakey like the shakey in one's head. I am six minutes in and THIS production is unreal; the lines are delivered JUST as I, a lesser genius than Will yet a genius nonetheless, would have them. brilliant. hahahaha. (mad laugh added.)

I remember regularly seeing Frank Muir on Egham High Street and even well into his seventies he retained his beanpole height and ramrod straight posture.

When I watched this when it aired it suprised me how Matthew came around so quickly to Anna using him and forgiving her so fast. But now I see it's because the producers wanted their wedding and the deadly event that day to occur a few weeks after this. If Matt wasn't leaving I think there would have been big argument here, Matt telling Anna to leave and they would have broken up for a while while she proved herself to him somehow.

Watching these shows now fifty years later I'm delighted to discover that they're just as enjoyable as I remember them.

Great series, brilliant cast, especially Tim Wylton, and comedy royalty Stephanie Cole. She played p****d to well as Betty Simcock lol 😅

Michael Jayston was a great actor with a great voice. Had he appeared in a Hollywood blockbuster there would have been a lot more press coverage when he left us. RIP Michael and Edward.

I love Anna. She was amazing. I wish she had stayed longer than 6months. Such a short stint😢 and so sad about what happened between her and Matthew. She came to the village to make up with her dad and ended up with extreme heartache with her father dying when they were on bad terms and the man she loved dying in her arms 😭

I wonder how different things would have turned out if Anna and Carl had gotten together instead of Anna and Matthew 🤔

Anna tells Matthew that she started seeing him as part of a plan to bring his family and company down, saying she doesn't want any secrets between them. Does Matthew ever find out Anna and Carl had a short fling and were going to get together?

I always wondered why Donald didn't tell Matthew here that Anna was using him in the beginning at her father's wishes. I wonder how the plot would have changed. Matthew would have been angry and might have taken Donald up on his offer. Whereas, what happened was Anna told Matthew first and had chance to explain and have Matthew see her side.

It's very rare (if ever) for DI5 to be referred to. It is the abbreviation for Defence Intelligence and works alongside MI5, MI6 (AKA Secret Intelligence Service) and GCHQ. I watched this episode when it was first shown on TV, thinking that DI5 was fictitious, with no inkling that some years later I would be working for DI24 and alongside GCHQ.

Interesting to see Matthew made a different choice this time around. When his dad basically made him the same offer: his business or Sadie, he chose the business and left Sadie. This time, when Donald basically made him the same offer for Anna, Matthew refused and didn't even consider it.
