Let's Talk How to CHOOSE AND FIT Your NEXT Engineer Boot
Engineer Boots are notoriously famous for their style and notoriously challenging to fit properly. With so many factors contributing to our choice of footwear, including foot size, shape, arch and instep height, foot width, and personal preference, the Engineer, which is effectively a lower leg foot mold, better be suited to fit you well. Through trial, error, and a lot of $ spent, I have slowly been forming an idea of what has worked and will work for me. I hope you enjoy this extended Welted Ware's Boot Rambling video

Selecting Engineer Boots is The Hardest Challenge In My Boot Journey…So Far…
มุมมอง 58015 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Selecting an engineer boot is a complicated process, much more than I thought. First off the boot has to fit. Next, it has to be easy to get on and off. Top that off with the fact that you may need to find a boot with a leather that is agreeable, and a brand that you are attracted to. Factoring all of these considerations in can make for a real challenging experience, one with unexpected twists...

Cordobes I believe would be a good choice.
Just ordered craft and glory stitchdown engineers, and have the crush on retro 501 cf stead en route. For me, the challenge with engineers have been low instep, and wanting a slim shaft. In the past I've had to punch extra holes on both straps to improve fit. I also add an extra thick insole with an orthodic insert to improve fit.
What problematic iconography are you referring to with attractions? Having a hard time finding info.
They are raising the price due to recent popularity. These same boots are 460 now
interesting. bummer that the price hike happened so fast. I am hoping that their teacore leathers stay affordable
Thanks Ashwin now I'm talking with Jim at COR again. Time to add Engineers to my modest collection. Excellent review mate.
Ask Jim why they are raising the prices since Ashwin began plugging them. They are actually just toaboa resellers find an agent to work with you on toaboa and save some money
Great video, lots of good info here. Im wearing mr. Mr’ Lou’s right now. Lucky for me they fit well, hard to get on but once on locked in, no heel slip at all.
This video was well done , what model zerrows are you referring to I seem to share the same foot shape as you Lofgrens didn’t work for me -instep issues I had to depart with my devils causeways😢
My Zerrows does not necessarily have a model number. I purchased it from East West apparel as a custom makeup that they ordered in volume . They do carry a model called the type one. This is not that model, but they have three or four different lasts. My engineer has the round low last, which should size about 1/2 down from Brannock for most people.

Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words, Derrick
Highly appreciate this video. I’ve been interested in getting engineer boots for a while but hesitant due to my high instep. Very helpful. Thank you.
My pleasure. My Higher instep has become a real challenge with fitting pull on/slip on boots. I wanted to make sure that others in my situation would understand why it can be such a challenge, depending on the shape of your foot. Thanks for watching.
I have a pair from Willie’s in the Philippines made with Maryam that simply feel amazing.
Those should be great. Good luck with them and I have long admired his work.
Happiness Brother! What a joy to be mentioned by you. I love to listen to your voice & see what you're doing. Such company that you put me in is humbling. You're the man!
Appreciate it! It's an honor and joy to connect with you as well. Love your videos for the love, wisdom, and the boots
Great review! Dievier is the type of boot brand that makes collecting boots fun and interesting. I'm impressed with them improving upon their Nomad 1 version. I hope you do a follow up on how comfortable these boots are on foot. They are as comfortable as they are stylish. I put Dievier in the same conversation as Parkhurst both boot brands excel at value, comfort and style.
Thank you. I totally agree. A new brand, innovating and creating something special that's novel to the market and yet fits it perfectly, while offering both service and value. Wow.
Actually, the version you have there is the $250 version with the Vibram 100 and leather heel stack. The $180 version is the regular wedge sole.
True true. I didn't realize that I was getting the upgrade but definitely am happy about it, and it's definitely worth it for me.
That’s a whole lotta boot for 180$😮🤯
the boots in the video cost 250$
@@cubichi77 1 minute 12 seconds into this video ashwin says they retailed at 180$
@@raymondcausey3926 the vibram sole is an add on for 70$
Good review Ashwin.
Thanks, David.
Fantastic video as always! Coincidentally, I released a video on Dievier this morning as well, but yours is truly top-notch.
That's awesome! Love yours ass well. Interesting piece on sizing. I have a 10D foot with a mid to high instep so will be able to compare once wearing it to see how that may play out
Looks like a really solid boot, especially for the price. Great video
Very solid boot, especially for the process the build and heft feel similar to Truman , if that gives you any idea
Check out that Merchant man, the Ebony Harness is a real sleeper. It’s a soft toe too, they’re dope from the factory, but resoled with a half sole?? 🔥 With some old Cats Paw or Biltrite, now we’re talking 😎 it won’t fit me (E/EE) but I can’t certainly find you a pair. Where’d you find these? I thought I put you on 🤔 you should have full RW Japan access Y’know what’s interesting? It’s got the same hardware from the Blacksmith/IR but in the same antique finish used on the Beckman. The Beckman has different speed hooks, they’re actually milled with round, flat heads. I also like the breast of the heel, how it’s slanted forward. Yes, that’s the name of the front of the stack - The Breast. The more you know 🤜🤛
Absolutely will do. I will need to source one in my size. The Merchant has been on my radar for sure, and I agree, throwing some old Cat's Paw, Bilt Rite, or Similar vintage corded or other soles, yup yup yup! Fascinating details thgat you noted on the hardware too.
I love my Merchants in Ebony Harness. I found two new, clearance pairs in my size at a Canadian Red Wing store last summer, for a steal of a price. I wish I had bought both pairs! Fwiw, I wear an 11EE in Iron Ranger, but bought the Merchants in 12D. They are the most comfortable pair of boots I own!
@ niice. Yeah I wear a 9EE in the #8 last, tried the Beckman in 9.5 and 10, but it’s still too narrow. I could go up to a 10.5 I guess, but a size and a half over average is too much length 🤷🏻♂️ hence why the Merchant, Beckman, or anything else they offer in a D width is a lost cause, but I’ll still recommend them! For the record, the 1000 Mile is significantly wider, I wear those tts (10E Brannock) and the 10D is 👍 the two are often compared in sizing, but the #8 is significantly more narrow. End rant.
Did you just find these on eBay?
Private sales, actually. Got lucky
Check out 9029 too. Even better in my opinion.
Will do. Thanks for the tip.
Nice. Similar to the Edward Green Nevis and Loake Anglesey (I have a UK8.5 pair listed for sale). Might be interested if these dont fit but hope they do 🙂
Super cool, and GLWS!
I’m interested if you decide that they don’t fit you. I wear a 9 d in Red Wing!
Will keep you posted for sure!
Very cool! I have a tough time sizing RW for some reason. Is your Brannock 10 then? Mine is 9.5 and the 9 Blacksmith is just a terrible fit for me. Wondering if I should go true to size.
Correct. Brannock 10D. 9.5 D worked well for me on the Beckman but haven’t tried the blacksmith
That is super awesome pick up! I'm jealous lol
Wonderfully varied and classy collection! 👏👏 Question, please: as between the Zerrows semi-chiseled and low-round toes, did you size differently? If you didn’t, any difference in forefoot fit, or is the shape differential in the toe boxes merely optics? Sorry, I suppose that’s more than one question lol. Thank you. Love your channel and am subbed.
Thanks much. I am in love with zerrows. I went a half size down on the low round, compared to the semi-chiselled last. This was based on discussing sizing with Jamie from East West Apparel
what's the sizing for briselblack, I'm a 43 in euro sizing so would i have to get 42.5 for this brand?
I was thinking of buying one of Crush on Retros motorcycle jackets do you know anyone that owns one?
I actually do not. I'd be curious myself. Reddit posts seem all over the place on their jackets/coats
@WeltedWare Thank you I will check it out!!
Great video. Can u tell me the circumference at the top of the shaft? Thx.
Ordered a pair of two tone monkey boots from them couple days ago after seeing your vid on them and couple others. Hard to believe the price point but I’m looking forward. If mine pan out def checking out some engineers next.
Great collection of Engineers. My favorite boots. I’m going to try a pair of Crush on Retro. Such a great price.
Thanks so much. COR is well worth a try. it's hard to beat the price, quality for the price (it punches well above its class), and turn around time.
please give more information regarding sizing. what is your size? which size did you order in every boot? would you change it? you say fitting engineers is the hardest thing, and then not giving us any helpful information.
I can tell you about COR. I wear a 9.5 in most RW 6” Heritage boots and a 10 in their 1155 western boot. The COR sizing guide is accurate and I bought a 43 in my first engineers. They fit very well.
@@GregClinkingbeard Thank that helps. I am 7.5 in most leather boots but on COR chart they only have 7 and 8. would you suggest sizing up or down?
@@Gilad-000 You might want to use the chat function on their site. He confirmed that the 901 and 501 are E width so that explains why my 901s fit just a bit big in width. I went with a 43 and think a 42 might be too short. I measured the insole length or my best fitting boots and went with a 43 which is just over 11”. My RW size 10 1155s measure 11” but are quite narrow and fit snug. These match up with the size chart. Engineer boots might fit different too.
@@GregClinkingbeard I want the 301.they look wide too but I will ask them to confirm. I just realized their chart refer to insole length and not foot length, so i will do the same as you did.
@@GregClinkingbeard They asked me what is my nike size. And the suggested 1 size smaller ( i am 41 in nike running shoes and they suggested 40). The insole length of size 40 is only 0.5 cm longer than my foot according to their chart. You think 40 will be too short in lengh? ( my foot is 25.5 cm) BTW they confirmed 301 medel to be E width.
If you ride a bike ok, otherwise I am not attracted to clunky Engineer boots
Don’t knock ‘em till u have tried them. Not clunky at all.
Nice review Ashwin and nice engineer collection now.
Thanks, David. It continues to evolve
I just bought a pair of the CFS 501s today. The teacore 901 pair which arrived a few days ago was a test as I could gamble the $259. Wow, are they worth it!
Those CFS 501's are next on my list too. The teacore 501's I have are beautiful.
I have crush on retro CF Stead engineers coming my way right now, can't wait to get them soon! I also have some Blkbrd engineers in Maryam horsehide with Dr. Sole. Those are awesome quality and fully lined. Also, check out Lewis leathers in the UK. I have some "Atlantic" boots that are engineer adjacent, and give essentially the same look when worn. They also have some traditional engineers as well.
Wow didn’t realize Blkbrd was doing engineers !
what engineer boot has the least amount of heel slip for people with low volume feet?
I'd say zerrows for me, in terms of heel slip. I think Clinch as well, if you size appropriately, but I had a a fair bit of heel slip on their CN-W last. I'd consider their narrow last if your feet are narrow
Ashwin, you love your engineers like I love my sprung toes!
Now a sprung toed Engineer 😮😮😮😮 !!!! Hahah yeah I’m definitely enjoying the journey
@ Zerrows makes them!
@@EDHBlvdoh I know darn it haha
i mean truman boots could combine manufacturing with thursday and the truman factory could be acquired by thursday and keep them afloat and thursday could use them for a new USA line
Just ordered my first pair of 501 in their black cow hide. Thanks for the video
How are these boot with heel slippage, I have low volume feet and its hard to find a engineer boot that doesn't slip
,❤️❤️
I’ve seen that sole available on some Redwing Germany models.
I started laughing my ass off at the spider fingers comment 😂 foam insole?? Mine are full veg tan with a sock liner 🤔
Great videography, although please share your views on sizing, e.g., what size to order in relation to one's Brannock. Thank you.
Hi. Great Boot and Video. What Conditioner or Wax would you use on this type leather? Thanks.
Crockett and Jones and Trickers wipe the floor with both, top notch quality, both in materials used, and construction and build quality.
I just recently got a pair of their Ironclad hatchgrain boots. I will admit....It's a pretty darn good boot. The leather is nice. It has a Vibram V-sole half sole. The stitching is accurate. The triple leather mid-sole is "beefy".
I just dont get the Engineer boot look
I didn’t for a long time, myself. I came around to it after 4 years of boot enthusiasm
Yeah me neither. But to each, their own. There are enough boot styles to cater to the clientele. Engineers, Chukkas, Cowboy boots, Chelseas,......you name it.
If u are into boots you have to try engineers at some point. If u don’t u are missing out.
They look good, especially for the price. Have you tried any of Cordobes Engineers? They are inexpensive.
I have the Cordobes service boot and planned on getting the engineer boot until I ran across Crush on Retro. Cordobes makes an extremely comfortable boot- they will modify the last within reason to fit your foot better. I don't think their engineer last/pattern is very attractive, though- definitely not compared to these. I don't think their finishing is up to caliber on Crush on Retro, either. They need a better pattern and last for their engineer- the heel block is too low and the shape is unrefined. It works well for the MP Sherman type of service boot but not for an engineer, imo.
