      Hi Lawrence - I use Shimano/Daiwa 1000/2000 reels for Crappie Fishing - very inexpensive reels for the common man but great reels for crappie. They're 5.0:1 ratio reels. Thanks for the question!! and thanks for watching - more to come!!

    Does the barrel swivel not deter the crappie from biting to some degree ?

    • @crushincrappie6525
      @crushincrappie6525 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Generally speaking no... I use the swivel config primarily in deep water scenarios where I'm fishing over deep brush piles. I use a light-line leader attached by swivel so that during break-off scenarios I only loose the leader and not the entire rig. But the use of a swivel is totally dependent on where and how you're fishing but whether you're fishing shallow or deep, as long as you're fishing above the crappie and are conscious of the water clarity so as to consider a gold vs silver vs a darker color swivel - you should be fine! Having said that - there are several applications where a leader/swivel are not advantageous - just depends on how you're fishing - But I've caught lots of fish this way! Hopes this helps! Thanks for the questions and thank you so very much for watching!!

    As always, another great instructional video..Question: regarding fish heading to deep water in winter transition stage, do crappie tend to head out of the creek arm like bass, or if the creek has water over 30 ft deep plus, will they "stay local" in the deeper water of the same creek arm...Thanks again. God Bless You and your family, sir...

    • @crushincrappie6525
      @crushincrappie6525 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent Question!! Sorry for just getting back!! Typically Crappies will move out of the Creek arms, even if the creek is deep , so as not to expend so much energy in moving water at colder temperature. The crappies will look for more stable water water conditions which usually present as deeper basins at about the 25 to 30ft mark where conditions are more stable, and the bottom forage hatches are close and they don't have to ex[pend as much energy for maintenance. Hope this helps!! Have you been out!! been real cold here! I'm hoping to get out soon in the dead of winter and try to get into'em!! Tight lines Sir!!! and as always!!! thanks for watching!!!

    • @crushincrappie6525
      @crushincrappie6525 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question - for that area of cover - about 20' The fish were laying in the break and the Shad were suspended above them deeper into the channel a bit - they were circling in an area of stable water(25-30') and the Crappies were advantageously feeding on them! Hope this answers your question and please don't hesitate to ask more! Thanks again for watching Sir!!

    WhiteRock Lake In Dallas, Is Quite A Shallow Lake😮 ThereFore. Around “thanksgiving”. The Shad Migrates Up The Creek To Deeper Water, Where ThroughOut The Winter, Most Of The Time, We’re Standing Shoulder2Shiulder, Having A BLAST💥💪🏾💯🎣❗️ The Gizzard, ThreadFin, GhostMinnow And BlueGill/Perch/Brehm Are All Packed In This Rather Small Area, And All Species Gets At ‘Em❗️🎣❗️ So, You’re Not Sure SomeTimes What You’re Going To Catch, But The Kropy Does Actually OutNumber The Other Predator Fish, Who Are Mostly Caught In This SizeAble Buffet🎣💯❗️ A GoodFish/Orange Type Colored Jig Stands Out Like “A Sore Thumb”, And Is My Jig Of Choice🎣 It Works Most Of The Time💪🏾🎣❗️ As I’ve Observed Over The Years, That The BlueGill Is The Main Dish For The Kropy ThroughOut The Winter❄️🥶 Guessing Because They Have A Higher Content Of Needed Protein❗️❓❗️ I Could VeryWell In Error With This Thought, But This Is What I’ve Both Observed And Do Quite Well As Result🎣 While At The Same Time, At Nearly 60, I’m Still Learning👍🏾❗️ Another Observation: While Jigging For Kropy, There Are Those Times Where I’ve Hooked LARGE Bass, CatFish (Blue And Channel) Buffalo And Carp And (Rarely) Gar🫨😲❗️ Which Prompted Me To Switch To A 6000 Reel, Mounted On A Good Kropy Rod With Excellent Flexibility And Serious BackBone❗️ I’ve Put That Rod To The Test, On One Of My Vids, Here On TH-cam🎣❗️ Where I Noticed Some Big Blue Cats Feeding At A 2 Gate Dam. Decided To Use A Small Blue&White Jigging Spoon To Catch One. And That 10 Feet BnM Got The Job Done💪🏾💯🎣❗️❗️❗️

    Superb Kropy Education🎣💯💪🏾👍🏾❤️❗️ We’re On ‘Em YearRound Here At WhiteRock In Dallas, Tx💯🎣❗️ And When The Bites Tough, GhostMinnows Are The Best Rout🎣💯❗️ I’ve Encourage A Few Kropy Anglers To Make The Switch👍🏾❗️ Besides, $4. Bucks For 12 Minnows, Has Gotten Pretty UnReasonable😩❗️ But Ghost Minnows ARE FREE🎣💯❗️

    Great video. Never been to this lake before but planning to be there 12/9. Do you mind giving me an idea of some spots to check. Not your spots of course. Just some starting points. Also, will there be accessible docks at that time?

      Thank you Very Much!! I greatly appreciate your feedback!! So you're going to fish Caesars?? Cool! All the docks but the main one, close to the Marina, will gone by the time you arrive - hopefully you'll be able to launch there. If so... there is a timbered Cove(with Visible standing timber) this time of year that you may want to try. You could also try the cove directly across the lake from it about a mile(you can find it on the lake map). Please troll very slowly through these areas from the bow of your boat as they are heavily timbered. You could check the entrances as a start. Hope this helps - All the best and enjoy!! Let me know how you do! Tight Lines!
