ariane gave srpinski super cancer after the gov't gave her normal cancer
I don't think F&H counts as true cosmic horror. Yes the gods are immeasurably powerful but it is stated several times that Syl truly loves humanity, Gro interacted with them in human form, and the moon god actively dislikes humanity. On top of that Rag's cannon ending has him triumph over the horrors of the dungeon and Enki achieved true enlightenment. While it very much is horror I don't think cosmic horror applies.
My favorite thing about Grogoroth's remnants is that if you do "beat" him in the fight, he basically asks what's wrong with you 😂
Someone is a fan of H.Bomberguy's Pathologic video essay 😉
CRASH BASH MENTIONED RAHHHHHHH!!!!!
Great video.
Signalis has won my heart, i’ll give ya that.
I was not going to comment until you said to, so here you go: Everything I learned about the time tesla (tm) about signalis summarized (unabridged version to be released soon and only part of a video, but I can expand on it in discussion) So basically, we know that the Grand Empress used Bioresonance to ascend Vineta and the Eusan Empire to the stars, terraforming or more accurately Klimaforming Kitezh, Buyan, Rotfront, and Hiemat to match Vinetas conditions. The Grand Empress also made Replikas for the population needs across the stars, probably over the course of 30 years (I will explain why in a second) before the Eusan Nation took over (and probably renamed it to) Hiemat just as colonization and Klimaforming of Leng began. for about 10 years, the two sides fought viciously, the Nation claiming Rotfront and Leng easily, but could not claim Kitezh as it seemed to be a military powerhouse to protect Vineta, and Vineta itself being fought over even more so than Kitezh due to it being the cradle of the Gestalt. By this point in the war, the first battle of Vineta is active and ADLRs, LSTR, probably SAPR (Mynah but for war), and a few others we dont see dont exist yet. at least the Nation keeps its Gestalt patterns in Cryo to keep their minds teh same and thus more easily controllable, as well as supress the memories of teh gestalt upon installation into a Replika. The 5th Vinetan Infantry Divisions 12th Unit works for the Empire, but Rebecca Liang, Lilith Itou, Elise Ng, and Anna Huang all have family on Rotfront and with the rest of their unit, betray the Empire to give the Nation Vineta on a silver platter. I dont know for certain which person was the LSTR neural pattern, but it cant be the two survivors (there must be 2 as there are 6 graves), expecially not Rebecca Liang seen as Rebecca is on the medical files of Rotfront the next decade. I believe that Alina Seo is the other survivor and remains behind to watch over (probably Lilith Itou) her lover and the LSTR nueral pattern on the Nueral Archive of Vineta. that ends when, sometime during teh 4th decade of the Grand Empresses reign, the Grand Empress herself shows up to Vineta for the second battle of Vineta to kill the Gestalt patterns of the new units in the Vinetan Nueral Archive to ease the war effort for the empire. She was killed by some kind of weapon of mass destruction, the mushroom cloud we see, which also killed LSTR's neural pattern. Alina then becomes some kind of problem for the Nation, probably something with placing the lilies on the grave marker, she was also the one we see on the train of vineta and the beach looking at the mushroom cloud due to the pony tail being her thing that no other characters have, but regardless, she was sent to Sierpinski for "reformation". We know that the Empress is dead, and the decision to use a weapon of mass destruction in the memory leads me to conclude that they tried to hide the fact they nuked the empress by saying the Falke can just do that, thus making them a bigger threat to the Empire as well as making people see her as more of a god of bioresonance more than the Empress was, who *is* the strongest with Bioresonance. The cycle begins now. LSTR is then used as a neural pattern due to her effectiveness and the effectiveness during the first battle of Vineta by her gestalt, so they cryopod her like they did the gestalt pattern. The war continues to the befuddlement of the Nation who dont understand why they keep fighting when their Empress is dead, especially as their spies ramp up in numbers. Ariane is pulled from her home by her aunt, her hair turns white and her eyes turn red during this period as seen in the classroom with two colours in her hair as well as the picture of Alina Seo being copied and sent to Iris, Arianes mother, who said they looked like twins, but Seo was not a name in the family. Twins cant have different hair and eyes when used this way to denote looking alike, but we do know a character who has white hair, we just havent met them yet. Isa and Erika become friends with Ariane, but she struggles to tell the actual twins apart, and they die around this time (they have their school uniforms in the photos of their death), likely because Sun was discovered and captured at this point. Sun is the Spy, and though he kept a low profile, he was discovered and Sektor C went on lock down, of which the book store that was already being called a spy hub and dissident holdout made for prime realestate. Sun is captured and for some reason all of Arianes doctors information ceases to exist after this point, the one who did a Tarot test on Ariane. Sun may have been a spy, but Adler doesnt remember anything and worships the strongest Bioresonant person there is he knows of, Falke since she can overpower and kill the Empress according to propoganda. Ariane is then transfered to Sierpinski, but decides after seeing the Penrose Program to go on that instead of being locked in a mine and thus goes to space instead. She and LSTR-512 hate eachother at first, but grow close as time wears on, reaching the 7ish-8ish year mark at 3000 cycles. they already planned on rationing and did that to this point just in case, but it becomes clear that that was the smart idea already since they are told they are going to die soon, but they keep going to at least 15 years, well over 6000 cycles, but eventually both die, Elster first, then Ariane/the antongist who began posessing her when she moved to Sektor C. back on Sierpinski, Arianes signal reaches it for 2 reasons, 1 she was going to be assigned to the mine adn thus a gate opens on Leng, and 2 Alina Seo is there and slowly becomes Arianes new body. The facility slowly breaks down, Falke slowly goes to sleep, and eventually only Ariane remains in Alinas body retreating to her own signal below Leng waiting for LSTR S2301 to reach her in the bioresonant reality within. One of the games paths goes through at this point as the LSTR we play as goes between each of the 3 dreamers dreams, Falkes being Sierpinski, Arianes being Rotfront, and the antagonists being Nowhere. We learn about Falke and sierpinski in Falkes dream and reality, we learn of Ariane and Rotfront in Arianes dream and reality, and we learn of the Empress like her white hair and Bioresonance in Nowhere (the antagonists dream and crumbling reality with their plan failing). LSTR amalgam (as I shall call them) also reaches midway points, overlaps like the isle of oblivion, arianes past, and arianes decision (the first person sections), between each dream until she reaches the center of all 3 dreams and where all 3 overlap. Here, LSTR Amalgam defeats Falke and Adler, and finally goes to reach Ariane to fulfill the promise (which all 5 endings, fake, leave, memory, promise, and ritual fulfill in different ways, but I am not getting into that here). It doesnt matter which ending is taken, LSTR Amalgam always reaches the center of the dream, the Penrose ship in the red/white snow. The ending plays out for a time until Adler wakes up and goes to Falke, waking her up as well. Niether were killed, as the only way to kill a Replika with the flesh like both are is to burn them with flares, which LSTR Amalgam did not do. With a bioresonant scream and the realization she is not Elster nor with Ariane nor the antagonist nor Ariane nor Falke, she tries to return to a time when she was using the antagonists power seen as they want the same. The Cycle restarts and plays out slightly differently, all collasing into the center of teh time tesla and heavily effecting eachother and going outwards where they have little effect upon eachother, meaning we see only 3 very small pieces of a very big pie of time lines in this time tesla, and others exist out there, like the orange suit, 2d timeline, and more. in the end, there is no end for signalis, just a repeating loop. Promise (song by 1000 eyes) starts off almost like its begging you to go back and plays over Falke and the leaving of Falke, then becomes a death march as you metaphorically then literally pass through the gate of no return by shooting Adler to prove your determination. The note of the Empresses hand is a reference to the Grand Empresses reign. on the first day (decade) she was crowned, ascending to the stars and claiming the Empires worlds. on the longest day nothing was done, she allowed her empire to develop for a decade without much interference on her behalf, letting them learn how Bioresonance works. on the next day she was wed, most likely a reference to her establishing her legitimacy, having an "heir" to her throne as well as another nation rise against her. on the last day she took her life is playing the pronoun game, the she and the her are different entities, she being Falke or the Great Leader or the Great Leaders Daughter killing her, her being the Grand Empress. it isnt took her own life or gave up her life or something more obvious to that. The Empress is also the one slowly overriding Ariane and turning Arianes hair white and eyes red, jsut as Ariane does to Alina, just as the Nation did with Lilith to LSTR, then LSTR to the future LSTRs after her, just as all Gestalt Patterns are imprinted over Replikas. the only difference is that they are doing it from the grave and that is making it take longer as they must also maintain themselves the whole time, and Ariane died before the Empress could fully imprint, splitting herself up like a certain Replika is being forced to do. Do I know what Signalis means? no. Do I know whats happening? unfortunately yes.
I do feel this requires some correction, it's not that entities like Cthulu are uncaring of us, it's that we are as significant to the, as an ant's shadow is to is. To be known by them is death, they are unknowable beings.
fun fact: Tolkien said he hated non white people speaking English in a letter to his son and supported Spanish fascism (dangerously based)
Spotting "confirm cycle" is very clever...and I never noticed the slab room being a mirror of Falke's room, nor the secret revisit to Adler's room via backtracking. You're very observant! I must admit, my understanding coming out of the game was that while people really did live and work in Sierpinski, it was all Ariane's bioresonant projection from the crash site (in a very Lovecraftian / Old One dreaming-as-reality kind of way), with the reality-falling-apart effects the inhabitants suffer being part of the cycle. In this instance, all of the Elsters we see really are all "Ariane's" Elster, being recreated each time, rather than other ones being overwritten with her memories. I'm not sure I'm convinced that Sierpinski is *also* a real place (and that real Elsters are being drawn in), but it's an interesting theory! The extra context about the King in Yellow was intruiging. I didn't really know anything about it beyond it being "the book that sends you mad", so I didn't appreciate all the extra details or its relevance to the plot. Wow, didn't know about LSTR-S2301 either! There's so much more to this game than what I originally understood. Interesting that I got Promise first time given that it seems to be the "multiple replays" style of ending. Overall: amazing essay!
Of all the games I've played Signalis is the most effective copium promoter and brain worm provider so far. Great essay man.
Whoa, haven't gotten one of these before! Thanks so much! Hope what's coming next meets expectations :)
@@DennisLjeti It's an underrated vid, you deserve more than you got for it.
I've watched a bunch, but this is probably my favorite essay on Signalis ! This game just won't leave my mind.
ama bit late. but termina confirms ending C-2 and A. Legard became the yellow king and the girl became F&H <3 great video tho
6:35 Ant Bully (2006) is cosmic horror
Ok now do Termina! ❤
I mean that picture of a Helsinki afternoon doesn't look that bad? At least there's snow on the ground and the metal park fixtures aren't visibly rusted due to the rain being more carbolic acid than water due to being downwind of an industrial center of a different country. (Most of the actual rust in the US' Rust Belt is from Canadian CO2 emissions because the US has spent the last 30+ years outsourcing it's industry to countries that give even less of a shit about the environmental than we do and Canada's version of the EPA only cares about the environmental impact of its industry if Canada is downwind of the factories. So if the prevailing winds are headed south they get a free pass on pollution).
For me, the Artifact Ending has a bit more of a supernatural or metaphysical lens to it. The 6 stones which Elster places the lily onto mirrors what Isa did to bring back her sister Erika, but unlike Isa we see the artifact which represents the entire game by its nature of being the logo. I think Elster and Ariane dancing into the credits is the game showing us that in her bid to fulfill her promise through the neverending cycle, Elster managed to bring Ariane back to healthy life, such that the two can actually live with one another happily. I might be reading too much into it though, and your more melancholic reading is a bit more in line with what the rest of the game shows us, but I like to think my robot girl can live with her wife into their old years.
This is a good video, but I'm baffled by your statement at the end about the S endings. I would argue they only add to the cosmic dread element, and they're not feel-good at all? They're called "happy" endings with the quotation marks for a reason.
aight, the combination of "you can't just slap a sanity meter on the game" over footage of the goddamn FlexSeal commerical, with Mind: 69 on it, and THEN Classic Brit "NOICE" that was a real rapid-fire of charm and I am *in*. looking forward to seeing what else you have on here!
Dude, i love the content so far, stoked for more
the boss designs could've been amazing with a little more forethought. Those tanks in the surgery room are most likely o2 tanks, which are EXTREMELY dangerous due to their combustible nature. The devs could've structured the fight around getting the boss to cause an explosion with the o2 tank, which requires the player to think and be strategic rather than use the boss as a pincushion for their limited bullets. As for the caged flesh boss, it would've benefited from more npc interaction. Have the player or npc act as bait, as the other aims at the legs to immobilize the creature before finishing it off. 40:07- (writing this before I finish the video) those red grates match up with the drawings and words in Falke's diary. They (Falke) said they went down into the mines and that the "white haired girl" was the one who "cursed" them. The curse refers to having memories not their own transposed into their head. My assumption or guess is that the mine holds an alternate warped reality of a collective of humanity's lost sense of self superposed onto one entity, the white haired girl. 49:52- (writing this before I finish the video) I don't think you need to watch or play the inspiration material in order to grasp the "meaning." There's no explicit answer, this isn't a math test, it's a physiological horror video game with synthetic human lesbians. I've never played silent hill, only watched videos about it. I've never watched avengelion, only seen snippets of it. This ending to me means a return to self, regaining one's memories and humanity at the brink of death, just like Star, and Beo. We can't stop trying to find out the mystery of unknowing, who is the woman we're looking for, who is she to us, where did she go, who are we? Going beyond the brink of what is safe to find the answer, the thing driving us. To give up would make us like Adler. I see this ending as happy in a way, she finds a part of her answer, she died aiming for her goal, her deaths isn't meaningless because she's made something of her life.
54:45 there is Falke in Elster’s line too. Poor Falke took memories that doesn’t belong to her
wroooong. Le Gard wasn't dead, he ascended to Yellow King, as a human.
Ya, i got to point this out. This guy has no idea how the mythos gods work. In fact many of the mythos gods Hate human it with a passion. nyarlathotep is a Great example of this. Then again he is one of the worst beings in existance. So it is not actual unexpected. Cuthlu has also been depicted as having a deep deep sense of hatred for humanity. That said many not all are hostile. For example shub niggurath, actual Saved humanity from one of her own grand children. This isn't even talking about the gods who Actively interact with humanity. Such as dagon, as the deep one are not really out to rule the world. They just want to be left alone. The gods are not ignorant of humanity. They plot and scheme against one and another threw humanity. Meanwhile other mythos creatures Just kinda get thrown into this entire mess. As their are plenty of stories where Someone says something they shouldn't have by accident. And accidentally summons a portal or a creature. Regardless thou, mythos gods are not ignorant of humanity nor do they have no value in it. if that was the case then why would they even bother to interact with humanity to begin with? When their is an entire universe to explore filled with alien races more advance then a bunch of apes.
I thought I was a masochist, but then I saw the people who play fear and hunger willingly, I have been enlightened that I cannot be farther than what that term means.
Super interisting video! You did great!
I think part of the cycles are that everyone she comes back she becomes a little more of 512 which is why in the first cycle she can’t bring herself to do it, in the second she isn’t recognized because she isn’t the android analine fell in love with. This is suggested by elsters focus on the room more then on her, contrary to when 2301 is synchronized with her gesalt consciousness and 512 becoming the android that alaine fell in love with to start with, which is where she fulfills her promise.
14:30 enemy has a bigger stinger than you? HACK IT OFF!
i would say a good version of cosmic horror in the sense of the perspective of the in game characters is cassette beasts, as to the players the bosses look normal but to the in game peoples they are impossible
at 4:50 he turns into wambu lmao
dude come on i get it was a joke but why would you drop unannounced silent hill 2 spoilers in there
18:39 Who did this? 😂
i havent played fear and hunger but i've been really interested in it since it came out. the blood meridian call out at the end got me fucked up
I was like "What is he cencoring on the guard?" So I looked it up and HOLY SHIT?!?!

The most horrible thing about the Penrose Program is how they had *_no_* shot at all. The ships were supposedly launched via mass driver, but wherever they were launched from it took 1500 cycles for them to get to the far side of the Oort Cloud. Then at cycle 3000, they get the "jk you're dead lol" fax. Assuming Vineta is Earth, the ships had only 1500 days-that is to say, _about four years_-after leaving the Solar System to find and land on a habitable planet. Meanwhile Proxima Centauri is 4.24 years away _at light speed._ The Penrose ships were simply much too slow, and probably not even pointed in the right direction. It's like having a bomb implanted in your head and the only way to defuse it is to run the length of the US East Coast before time runs out, then getting told that time's halfway up before you leave your front yard. They may be the worst, cruelest PR stunt ever conceived.
Awesome game....just refuse to do all the fun shit
Good stuff i want more please do the same thing to oder games
saying chonky , spoopy and hungy as a grown man in 2024 is rlly something
Yuri and Barbara (the two people that are Rose-Engine) really made a masterpiece here. Two random people crafting this beautiful, sad, wonderful, game.
real
Chivalry and the Chivalric code of conduct were far deeper than we learn about on history. I have an old book titled something like: 'An Introduction to Age of Chivalry.' Key word here is 'introduction' because the book is more voluminous than the KJV Bible. Shows how tremebdous the age was it, despite our historical ignorance. What amazed me is how Japan, separated from England by a months-long sea voyage and total isolation, developed a mirror-image of our Chivalric code. Even the belief in a God-King and the knights/samurai serving them is shared.
Picked this game up thanks to you. First room gave me more anxiety than majority of my 20+ years of gaming. Gonna be a wild ride.
Take Allen wake 2 off that list. That game ruined everything that was great about the first game and it's dlc
