    This is very helpful info! As a beginner I'll probably buy good quality 140lb. Would I still be able to paint wet on wet once, and rewet the paper at least once? I don't need to paint many layers or rewet the paper much but I still wanna be free practice most watercolor techniques.

    Great tutorial. But I'm confused by the statement that the sheets tear down into standard sizes for framing. I've never found premade frames in 7 1/2" x 11"

    • @chelsmeister
      @chelsmeister 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe an A4 frame is like 8.3x11.7 inches, or a standard 2:3 frame near that size would be 8x12 inches. You typically want to leave a little room around the edges of the painting within the frame

    Tudah Rbah (thank you very much). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). ...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.

      Good question. I have never tried this. Would you then want to remove the gesso? Seems to me that it would damage the paper.

  • @cybermollusk

    Very helpful. I never knew anything about the paper weights before. I have a couple questions. Can the 300lb paper be re-wet? Like if I've let one layer of paint dry, can I re-soak the paper later and paint a new layer, or will that ruin the first layer? Also, how long do I need to soak the 140lb paper for? I never realized that I needed to let the paper soak. I would just make a puddle and start painting. Maybe that's why it would dry so quickly.

    • @ArtsofCourse
      @ArtsofCourse ปีที่แล้ว

      If you wet the paper again after you’ve painted on it, you will reactivate the paint, so you would have to wet only the parts that don’t have paint. For the first soak, you have to wait until it’s almost matte. You can shake off the extra water and then wait until the paper is no longer slick. How long it stays wet has a lot to do with the dryness and temperature of the room you’re painting in.

    100%. I'm glad I used Daniel Smith from the start (started with the 6-tube mixing set). I then tried some non-artist quality paints and I wasn't happy with the result -- more multi-pigment paints, less pigment, more filler. I think people who start with "student grade" paint are more likely to give up on painting. A few tubes of good paint are relatively cheap and last more than twice as long as the cheaper paint. Paper too. The idea of "student grade" paper is a misnomer. Students should use the good stuff and then maybe play with cheaper paper when their expertise still allows them good results.

    Years ago, watercolor teachers frowned on using white gouache. The painter had to leave white areas by masking or carefully painting around white areas. Now almost all watercolor tutorials say it's ok to use guache. When did the big change happen?

    This was useful and easer than cutting. But there’s no use preserving edges since they will be destroyed by stretching. Unless you’re using the 300 pound.

      Thanks for your comment Reginald. Jess doesn't stretch his paper when he paints. He uses the "towel method" which is explained in this video. th-cam.com/video/aI0r0_d5log/w-d-xo.html

    • @ArtsofCourse

      That's true Reginald, but our instructor Jess never stretches paper and very rarely tapes the edges either. We find it unnecessary with 100% cotton paper.
