Congratulations all another fantastic podcast ❤
My last name is Eakin. Pretty cool
Funnily enough when i was in hospital with UC, one of the doctors mentioned that smoking was actually indicated as being something that suppressed UC. I'm prediabetic as well which is why this video caught my attention. I'm 3 months post surgery for Ileostomy and struggling to balance stoma diet with diabetic diet, haven't quite figured it out yet/
Just listened to this podcast and in answer to your query Keith, nicotine masks the symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis. I was only diagnosed with UC after I gave up smoking at 48yrs old (2016). Within 6mths I was admitted to ER and diagnosed with severe, acute UC and after 1.5 months in hospital trying to get the flare under control I got my Ileostomy to save my life. My GI team and my surgeon here in Australia were brilliant and regaled me with stories of many other Ostomates that gave up smoking only to get their diagnosis of UC and telling me how it was then (and still is now) a belief by the GI medical practitioners here that it is the nicotine that masks the UC or at least seems to keep it under control.
This is brilliant. I have experienced all this firsthand. It's the first time I could sit and laugh about it like I was right there with you. I am going to lay down now. Cheers from Hollywood.
Chris, so glad you came on here too and I subscribe to your TH-cam. I have a colostomy I had to get a revision so I’ve been in recovery limbo for six months not being able to do anything really so you were inspiration. I am hoping there’s a light at the end of this tunnel.
Hi. There certainly is life at the end of tunnel. Keep going and sending you lots of positive energy.
You girls are 😊 I had a total colectomy many years ago . The stoma staff were awful back then😘I’m 80 now things have so changed for the better and I’m feelling so grateful for my good health . Eakin seals were the greatest invention and have been around for us Love to you all
This guy right here 👏 👏
Great stuff you guys.I am delighted to learn about your seals They are a great addition to stoma care.Thannk you Jeremyxxx
Finally people talking in the raw out open Raul thank you
I'm always so impressed with how such beautiful young ladies are so brave, open and honest. I am an old biker type of 60. Just had this surgery.
Another fantastic podcast, congratulations, guys. 👏👏👏💜💜💜💜
The UK is miles ahead of the US in terms of treatment, support and research of Colon Cancer, Ostomates and especially Metastatic Neuroendocrine Cancer tumors. I have been ignored and blown off so many times, and i am Caucasian. So i don't feel it's an ethnic issue, at least here in US. I have had horrible symptoms which have destroyed my quality of life w stoma and now after reversal. I can barely leave the house in 2 years. I am stage 4, 69 years old and contemplating going on Hospice due to uncontrolled symtoms. UK is so far ahead and seems to care so much more. Maybe it's age discrimination , not ethic but same problem! Great job. So well explained . I wish i could come to UK! Blessings
I can sympathise with Keith over the love of potatoes!!
I wish we could get pelican pouches here in the US
❤❤
Never papu you aurora Boroș soția lu i și 2 copii 😅
Love the podcast 👏 great conversations
Hi Mohammed. Listening to the start of your talk. Im so sorry your GP fobbed you off. Its an absolute disgrace he didn't order a colonoscopy urgently with the pains and lump. I read about GP's who are very careless and dont take action. Wishing you the best in your recovery.
Love the podcast should do one more about palistomal hernias which is a big problem for people with stomas
Love these seals, and some new ideas on how to fit them
Absolutely loved being on here. Thanks guys 🎉❤😂

My amazing brother in law❤
What an amazing chat with Mo 👏👏👏👏💜💜💜💜💜💜
*Promosm* 😓
I've a 55yr old stoma which I wouldn't swap for the world - Inital diagnosis Ulcerative colitis 1964 eventually Pan-procto in 1968 diagnosis Crohns - never looked back. First bag was white rubber like a hot water bottle! just a couple of inches short of hem of my dress - mini-dress days!! So I've seen a lot of changes especially in disposable bags which started with my Eakin bag in 1979/80 - it changed my life completely! Great to see/hear these discussions and being light hearted - for most of us it is the beginning of a new life and if we don't get the fun others won't either. Well done girls!
